secret place
Deep breath in.
frozen against the sand
the ocean reaches out and clutches my toes
water sloshes in my lungs
I close my eyes and suck in
a ragged breath
Keep breathing.
A blinding warmth paints my skin in sunny glitter
She stands, wings wide
the sun crowns her head
I crawl to her, fists full of sand and gravel
She sits beside me
I smile at her
She combs her fingers through my tangled soul
and sweeps the mist from my eyes
She waits as I vomit the world
into her lap
as I crumble and burn
She waits for the tide to wash away
the blood and bones
and she takes me into her arms
and I feel her soft edges
like worn fabric beneath my fingertips
her quiet breath grazes my lashes
She tends to my wounds
I exhale.
