Chapter 1 - Cuidad del Mar

The cool and fresh waters of the Indian Ocean sent an amazing scent at the beach making it act like a natural air freshener. Children could be heard from a distance laughing in joy as they built castles from the warm, soft sand of the beach as their parents sunbathed and enjoyed the relaxing breeze from the light monsoon winds coming from the deep, navy blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The gracefully palm trees swayed towards the Eastern direction generating a smooth whistling sound which in turn created a magnificent aura of tranquility and serenity.

Just like the beach, the atmosphere of the city had an amazing scent though not from the sea but from the numerous confectionaries, bakeries and hotels that were all over the city. This made the saliva drool from the mouths of the drivers stuck in traffic which left luxurious sports cars paraded on the ever busy state of the art highways of Cuidad del Mar.

For nearly a decade, the Imara family literally controlled everything that went on in Cuidad del Mar since they owned almost everything. They owned five star hotels, controlled the ports of Cuidad del Mar, owned almost all the malls, owned St. Agnes Referral hospital which was the largest hospital in the African continent, owned most industries and even decided what the country imported and exported. The wealth and power of the Imaras made them untouchable and were almost regarded as royalty by the entire country till a seer made a 'prophecy' that burst their little bubble of pride.

"The untouchables will bring the powerful sea city to its knees and burn it to the ground. Like a phoenix, an alpha male will rise from the ashes and bring Cuidad back to her original state."

Weeks after the 'prophecy' there was a family feud amongst the Imaras. The two alpha males of the Imara family, Dr. Shawn Imara and Jefferson Imara got involved in a fight at the Queen's Palace mall that ended in a stalemate after the brothers viciously tore each other apart. This generated bad blood amongst them till they found themselves a common a tragedy caused by a bioterrorist with an unknown agenda.

Their closest allies in business were found dead in their luxurious penthouses with cyanotic bodies, grey eyes and blood oozing from their mouths, eyes, noses and ears. A day later, children at an amusement park owned by the Imaras faced a similar ordeal. As they were swimming, riding rollercoasters and playing in bouncing castles, they suffered an acute episode of bronchospasm that inevitably led to an audible wheeze. This was followed by convulsions, whitening of the eyes, bleeding from all orifices and finally an agonizing death right in front of their parents who had no idea how to stop their pain.

Dr. Shawn Imara and his team of skilled pathologists spent sleepless days and nights trying to decipher the cause of death till one lucky morning, an unknown compound was in the brainstem of all bodies which underwent autopsies. Upon further investigation, traces of the compound was found in the lab of the chief pathologist of St. Agnes Referral hospital, Dr. Josiah Kovu who was arrested but escaped police custody and has been on the run ever since that day.
