1-MISS YOU UNTIL IT HURTS
1-MISS YOU UNTIL IT HURTS
“Mikael!”
Cordelia gasped, clutching her chest.
Damn it. What was it with paranorms and their super speed? Can’t they approach her the normal way? Luckily, she was somewhat used to their abrupt entrances by now—otherwise, she might have had a heart attack.
She steadied herself, exhaling sharply before cutting straight to the point.
“Where is Caleb? Is he okay?” The moment her racing heartbeat slowed, worry overtook her features, concern thick in her voice.
It had been over a month since she last saw him—since she let her disgust get the best of her and drove him away. She was so damn sorry about that. If she could turn back time, she would have reacted differently. Maybe then, Caleb wouldn’t have disappeared completely.
But still—she couldn’t get over him. Which is why, after their fallout, she spent every day searching for him.
Every morning before school and every evening after school, she went to his motel, hoping to see him there. But he wasn’t.
And the jerk didn’t even bother showing up at school anymore.
Ugh.
She won’t forgive him for this—for making her miss him so damn much it hurt.
“I don’t know where he is,” Mikael answered.
The last time he saw Caleb was the day of that massive brawl between the Covenant and those PC knights. That was weeks ago. And no matter how much he searched afterward—first in Maire Haven, then all across the world—he had no luck locating him.
It was as if Caleb had vanished from the face of the earth.
Still—Mikael wasn’t giving up.
That was why he was back in Maire Haven, where things had finally calmed, to search again. And what better place to start than with Caleb’s object of affection?
But now, hearing Cordelia’s question, he knew—this was pointless. She didn’t know where Caleb was either.
Damn. He wasted time coming here.
And worse—he just realized that the PC knights might also be using Cordelia as bait to lure Caleb out.
Shit. He messed up.
Mikael clenched his jaw. “Anyway, I have to leave.”
“Wait! You’re not leaving until you tell me what’s going on with Caleb.” Before Mikael could speed away, Cordelia grabbed onto his arm.
Mikael sighed. “I don’t want you to get involved any further.”
But before she could argue, a group of gossiping students caught their attention.
They were talking about the massive explosions currently taking place at the mayor’s estate—described online as a terror attack. Reports said the mayor, his family, and their security personnel were missing.
Cordelia dragged Mikael down the hallway, seeking a private corner before speaking again. “Do you think this has anything to do with Caleb?”
The moment the words left her lips, she knew she sounded desperate. But Caleb had the power to make things go boom.
And his temper? Infamous.
Could this really be his doing?
Mikael’s eyes darkened. “I don’t know, but I’ll check.”
“You’re not leaving without me.” She tightened her grip on him before he could speed off.
Mikael sighed. “No. It might be dangerous.”
“I don’t care, Mikael.” Her voice shook, but her resolve didn’t waver. “I love him. And I’m coming with you.”
She was shocked at herself for saying ‘I love him’ aloud—mortified, even.
But it was the truth.
Mikael studied her for a moment before deciding. “Okay. Let’s go then.”
Maybe—just maybe—she could be the one to bring Caleb back to his senses.
He hoped.
Without another word, Mikael picked Delia up and sped out of the school.
Within seconds, they arrived outside the front gates of the mayor’s residence.
There, the town’s police department and the army were stationed—monitoring the curious civilians and the inquisitive media, all recording and speculating.
Yet, strangely, the law officers refrained from entering the premises. Mikael concluded that they were becharmed.
Cordelia huffed, scanning the scene. “How are we supposed to get in? With all these soldiers and police here, we can’t—”
Before she could finish, Mikael dashed into the mansion, taking her with him.
Cordelia grimaced, scolding herself silently.
That was a stupid question.
The mansion’s living room was in ruins—the walls cracked, furniture destroyed, the entire space trashed as if both a hurricane and an earthquake had torn through it.
Except for one thing.
A single red couch, untouched amidst the chaos.
Relax upon it, Theodore.
“Mikael,” he greeted smoothly, his presence going unnoticed until he spoke.
Mikael’s expression hardened. “Where is Zane?”
And before Theodore could answer, another voice cut in—calm, warm, and strangely expectant.
“Mikael.”
Bleu.
Coming down the staircase, his hand resting on the railing, eyes sharp but eerily composed.
He had known Mikael would show up here the moment word of this attack spread. What he didn’t expect was Mikael bringing Cordelia with him.
Why?
Didn’t his brother know the PC knights were trying to use her as bait to lure him out?
If not for Ariella’s protective charms and Alexander’s quiet intervention, they would have captured her already—demanding Caleb surrender to save her life.
Not that he would have, of course.
Bleu had no feelings for her.
Still, that didn’t mean he wanted to see her harmed.
Not that it mattered anymore—because Ble knew, without a doubt, that the PC knights were already on their way here.
Good.
He could use them—test how much this body had truly adjusted to his powers.
But until then…
He would entertain these two.
