A satisfying and fun story which will leave the reader reminiscing about their childhood
"Ruins at Dawn is a fun and sweet story which aptly captures the perspectives of it's young protagonists without feeling simple or cheesy. I loved the friendship between Zoey and Damien, and the ease with which they understood each other. I thought that it was an interesting technique to use a different voice for the first and last chapters, and I loved the optimistic but ambiguous ending. The book features a lot of dialogue, which can be tricky to balance, but it was always easy to read and understand. Conversations felt natural, and the humour, though subtle, consistently landed. The reader will frequently find themselves smiling and relating to Zoey's inner monologues. Punctuation and grammar were great, and the formatting of the book was perfect. I do feel that some of the chapters could be longer, although I also recognize that part of the charm of this book is the clean and simple progression of the plot. All in all, Ruins at Dawn is a satisfying and fun story which will leave the reader reminiscing about their childhood."
The best story ever
"I really liked the way of the author how he expressed his feelings and his techniques of writing. It’s one of the rarest cases when you read all the chapters at once "
Humorous and Thoughtful
"I LIKE this book VERY MUCH! A BIG Thumb Up! It’s funny. I was laughing out loud while reading along. Zoey's smart. But most people think she's weird. Luckily, she found someone who has the same mind like her. I also like your design of the chapters. In the 1st chapter the author hinted an important character will appear next. In the 2nd chapter the author designed the Term # and Week # to match the Chapter #. In the last but second chapter the author even held something until the very last chapter revealed it. This chapter also makes you think about something about life. I thought it was the end as well until the last chapter came. It was the highlight of the whole book. The ending was out of my expectation. Highly recommended!"
Great!
"I think your story is fantastic! I think that it was really clever. I thought it was really funny that Zoey called those girls after their favorite potato chip or candy. I remember in Elementary school, me and my best friend would call the popular girls pimples, and the popular boys zits. We'd also give codenames for cute boys. I don't know. I just loved that detail. Even though your story was incredible, I did see some room for improvement. Sometimes I found it unclear on who was talking. Also, try not using the word 'said' as much. If you use words like, hollered, or spit out, it adds more detail towards how the characters act. Just a suggestion. I thought the smelling hair thing was clever as well. Because little kids are curious about that sort of thing. I liked how you described what type of hairstyle they were wearing as well. I thought their friendship was adorable as well. I learned more about Damien's backstory as well, which I really liked. I think you did a really good job at capturing the different characters perspectives, and traits. It left me loving it. I hope you continue to write!"
