The Year- Reimagined

Summary

This is a poem I wrote based on "The Year" by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. I remixed/reimagined it and added some more modern terms and themes. So...yeah! I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think!!! <3

Chapter 1

What’s new? What’s new?

What hasn’t been done?

What hasn’t been said?

Anything new under the sun?

The year flies by without a thought

A rhythmic beat we’ve practiced not

The toil, the strain we barely notice

A song, a dance-without much focus.

We love, we date, breakup again

Married once, divorced twice

And it’s over again

Reproduce, reproduce

We do our part

No-the world is overcrowded

So birth control stifles our lovely art.

Death collects it’s tolls

We cry, then move on

“Things happen” we remark

“Their time was prime; they were getting old.”

We waste, we use, we abuse

“Renew, reuse”

Our world gives out as temperatures rise

“2050; new plans”, we sigh, we sigh

And now Generation Z is here

New news, new stars, new trends, new fears

We scream, we laugh, and wipe our tears

And now there’s the headache

Of a brand new year.

mariedavismd312: This was Avery spiritual read. The last 2 chapters where very disappointing. That was such a let down unless there is a sequel. Burgess should have been punished for what he did. There was no explanation for his hatred for Jeremiah. I figured he was being set but just had the wrong person. I loved ...
