The Beginning
So, there I was, sitting on my aunt’s porch after a long walk from my mom’s house. I had just come outside so I could finish job hunting. It was about 12:00pm, on a very hot sunny day in the middle of July. I sat on that porch feeling so defeated. I had been searching for a job for the last five months and I was getting nowhere. My thoughts started kicking my butt. “So, you really haven’t found a job yet? It can’t be that hard sis. So many people your age been had jobs. Girl, you might as well just give it up.” After that last thought to myself, I simply bowed my head and gave up. As soon as my eyes started to water, I felt the presence of a white truck pulling up and then stopping directly in front of me.
A familiar voice called out and said, “B-Bubs, what are you doing out here this early?”
I blinked really quickly to draw back the tears that were about to fall before I lifted my head, put a huge smile on my face, then got up off the porch and ran to the truck.
“Hey Coach Pharoah,” I said. “I’m just out here getting ready to finish job hunting.”
He looked at me, smiled and said, “Well don’t give up, you will find something. Here…” he reached into his pockets and pulled out a $20 bill and gave it to me.
I smiled super hard and said, “Thank you so much.”
