Part 1
“So, what do you want to do?” Sophia asked. The thirteen-year-old girl had wavy strawberry blond hair and light brown eyes that were almost of a hazelnut’s color. She wore pajamas that depicted the jungle and were so short that Mai wasn’t even sure she was wearing pants.
This was Mai’s first sleepover after she had moved. She had been eager to make as many friends as possible once her family and she had finally gotten settled in Raleigh. Thankfully, Mai hadn’t gotten into any problems with anyone at school yet (Unlike her previus school). After all, she had been nice so far. But, it was still her first sleepover and Mai wasn’t as close with Lizebell and Sophia as they were with each other. That was what she hoped this sleepover at Sophie's apartment would do.
And, there was another obstacle, the two friends had payed zero attention to Mai so far. Whenever there was any kind of comunication or speech of any kind, it was aimed at each other. Never. Ever. Mai. She was just the fifth weel. The reserve in the back of the truck that no one thought of unless one of the tires that was already in use deflated and lost more purpose then her.
Maybe it’s because of my sense of style, Mai thought. Looking down she stared at her light blue T-shirt and purple jeans. Where they had been before was easier. Maybe not in school, but put Mai anywhere besides that, and she was fine. The styles had been looser there. When things were popular they were popular. But, that was it. You could tell what was in season by what was being worn most often. And things always became trendy for a reason. People wouldn’t decide whether or not to be friends with you just because of what you wore. Especially Mai, she thought this more then anyone. Clothes were simply something to protect you from the environment. That was all they were. But, now the poor girl had moved to North Carolina, and had to start learning from scratch, what fashion was.
Or maybe it's what I look like overall? Mai wondered while studying her face in the mirror on the opposite side of the room. She had choppy dark brown hair that went a couple of inches below her chest, and it was so dark, actually, that people had mistaken it for black before. Mai wouldn't even be sure herself if it was black or not, that is, if it were not for her parents who had told her that, it was in fact, brown. She also had dark freckles with eyes the same shade of brown as her hair and pale skin. It made for a quite a confusing picture when trying to understand that a girl had such a combination of colorless shades on her face.
“Maybe we could tell spooky stories?” Lizebelle answered, grinning. She wore a simple gray onesie with plurple dots. Her shoulder length black hair poked out from any spaces inbetween her head and the hungry monster-head hoodie that was acting as if Lizebelle was it’s prey.
“Oo-”
“How about a quick round of truth-or-dare before that?” Mai intervened. She didn’t want to be ignored the entire sleepover and they must want her company at least a bit. Why else would they have invited her?
“Uuum, Okay! Who starts?” Sophia asked. Seeming for all the world as if Mai hadn’t just interrupted her.
“You?”
“Okay!” Sophia answered happily. "So, do we do that bottle spin thing, or just choose a random person to dare ourselves?"
"There is the option of truth, you know?" Lizebelle questioned, grinning.
"Right, right." The game went on for a bit and it was as if time sped up, because before Mai knew it; it was already 1am, but, while Lizebelle and Sophia seemed to get increasingly large eyebags, they acted the exact opposite of their appearence.Whereas Mai was the only one who actually was slowly powering down
"I dare you to... stay on the rooftop for an hour."
