Chapter 1

The Dream Of The Hopeless

Don’t we all want an America composed of equality and unity

When we say this we are all looked at in scrutiny

Why is this thought so unreachable

Why is this thought an illusion

Is it just a delusion

Is it just a thought believed in only by those who hope

When reality it is all just a big nope

Aren’t these thoughts sad

Because all they really do is make us mad

Mad that we can’t hope

Mad that the answer is always nope.

What if it didn’t have to be this way

What if everything they say can be true

That those deemed unworthy can begin anew

Are those dreams of winter really nightmares

Or perhaps not a dream but reality

Can an immigrant born in another country

Not be hungry

Can a child born unwealthy

Become financially healthy

If so how

When can we achieve this please say now

Are we really all valued by the government

Or is this yet another lie to cover up their misgovernment

Are we all equal under the law

Or does our legal system have a flaw

Is anything illegal for the wealthy

Is this a dream as faint as a beautiful woman

Does Her beauty eventually fade like this dream

It is as cold as a winter stream.

Is America just a big Ellis island

Where the poor are treated unfair

And the rich treated rare.

Oh but of course they are rare

In the land of the millionaire

Why so hopeless they say

Because I know I will never make a fair day’s pay

Because I know I am nothing to the rich

My luck will never switch

Perhaps this is just an opinion

The only dreams I dream are just that dreams

For mine are the dreams of the hopeless

The dream of the hopeful

I believe that this is a nation of love

After all the sun is always above

Why would the sunshine if this nation was lost

Why would the ground frost

After all, if the dream was dead wouldn’t naturally be as well.

Wouldn’t it mirror a nation that fell

I believe that I can succeed

I believe that I can provide everything that I need

If I just work hard enough

The American dream is no bluff

The wealthy aren’t privileged they worked hard to get where they are

With their example I know I can go fair

College isn’t necessary to get where you want

Just look at the races of Belmont

The jockeys are wealthy

Maybe not healthy…

My ancestors fought for a nation of dreams

I will not let it rip at the seams

For mine is a nation of hope

Not ever will I accept a nope

Everything is earned

Not given.

So why is there hopelessness and not hard work

Why does everyone believe a successful person is part of a wealthy network

No, I will not

I will not accept defeat

We as a nation have completed great feats

Only for us to fall hopelessly to our knees

Everyone sits at home and insults our work by just pushing the keys

For me is a dream of hope and it is not just a dream it is a reality, a vision

A vision of what is possible in this great nation

The Dream I Dream

I dream of a nation that is whole

I envision an America that is joyful

An America full of respect

A place of little disrespect

Not a perfect America

Just one that is perfectly united

One that is no longer near-sited

Can we achieve this

Can put aside our differences

Maybe use our senses

Can we rise from the bounds of money

Can we resist that taste of its sweet honey

Or should we chase our dream-like Dexter

If we work hard enough it is possible

All of our problems are solvable

It depends on all of us

We will have to stop giving other people such a fuss

When you disagree

Just leave it be

That’s the solution for me

We can do anything together

It’s like that white feather marking a beginning

A new beginning where we are one nation under God

Not just a big clod of disagreements

We could have a nation where the government really represents the people

Not just themselves

And their wealths

Why should a person of the people be paid for their service

Can’t they just recognize their service

With money comes corruption

With chaos comes disruption

Is that what we are a nation in chaos

Can this lead to disruption

Disruption of the wealthy politicians

Hopefully, that would lead to public admissions

Is anything illegal for the wealthy

Or can you just hire the right lawyer and nothing will be filthy

Oh, how I wish we could band together and fix these problems

This is the Dream I Dream

The American Dream is anything it seems it is the Dream We Dream.
