Jolted awake by a crack of thunder, Arthur stood to his feet! Immediately surprised by his surroundings, he could barely comprehend what he was looking at. Arthur rubbed his eyes in disbelief and naively thought anything would change. The grass around his feet was as orange as the fruit itself, he stood alone in a beautiful plateau with the orange grass stretching as far as he could see. Littered across the land was what looked just like normal weeping willow trees.
"What the hell is going on?" Arthur mumbled to himself.
Having yet to take even a single step he continued to take in the scenery, looking down he notices a small puddle next to him. The puddle had ripples rolling through it as though a stone had been tossed in, but looking closer the ripples were coming towards the center. Arthur crouched down for a better look,
"well aren't you curious"
When the ripples reached the center of the puddle the water rose slightly and as if someone had plucked it like a leaf from a tree, a small water droplet formed and slowly started rising into the air.
"Okay then?" He whispered to himself in disbelief.
As he followed the droplet up with his eyes he noticed several others were already floating slowly above.
"Alright! Yep! I'm asleep!" Arthur shouted!
"If that were the case you would be crying" another voice rumbled from behind him.
Arthur spun in place so fast he almost knocked himself to the ground! There was nothing there, just more orange field.
"I guess I just imagined it." He whispered softly to himself as he tugged at his earlobe.
"WHY DO YOU CRY IN YOUR SLEEP?" the voice said loudly and even closer this time!
Arthur spun in place once again almost in a panic!
"Okay! Who's there!?"
As if they were standing right behind him, Arthur felt the heat roll down his neck as they spoke again
"If I'm not mistaken, I asked you a question first." Growled the voice, what almost seemed politely.
Confused and scared, Arthur closed his eyes and took a deep breath in an attempt to gather himself. With his eyes still closed Arthur replied,
"I'm sorry but I don't know what your talking about."
For a moment there was only silence, not even the sound of the wind passing through the grass around him. Arthur began to wonder if he really did imagine the voice. He let out a small sigh, and started scanning the open field, looking for something... even if he didn't quite know what it was he was looking for yet. Arthur spotted a large boulder with a few smaller ones surrounding it, and one of the many willow trees hanging over top of it making the perfect shaded spot and maybe even a slightly higher location to see farther.
"I guess that looks kind of comfy." He joked to himself.
Arthur started towards his new destination, but within just a few steps he was stopped in his tracks! Hitting his face on something unseen, and rough enough to feel like sand paper on his skin.
"Alright, I've had just about enough of this!"
In anger he threw a fist directly at where he was just halted!
"RUDE!" boomed the same mysterious voice from before, this time very loud and very angry!
Instantly revealing the mysterious creature that had been tormenting him.
Standing just before him, looming at what seemed like over 7 feet tall and far too long to see all at once up close was a jet black chameleon. It's single eye was fixated right on Arthur's eyes.
"It's rude to walk away from a conversation like that you know, and then you attempt to strike me!?"
Still in awe Arthur slowly replied,
"uh, you stopped talking, and to be fair I thought it was all in my head."
"Nonetheless, you are rude boy." Said the chameleon calmly.
There was a long quiet pause as they both stood studying eachother, the chameleon slowly crawled in circles around Arthur almost like a shark. It's skin was so black it almost seemed to pull the light into itself and it was hard to focus on at times. The eyes of the creature were a piercing yellow that cut right through your soul, yet the way it spoke made Arthur feel somewhat calm and not at all afraid of it.
"So, you got a name?" Arthur asked in hopes to get it to stop pacing around him.
The chameleon came to a stop to the right of Arthur, as he looked forward he could see the large tail to the left of him and the frightening yellow eyes to his right.
Facing Arthur and focusing both eyes on him, almost annoyed it let out a large hot breathe onto Arthur that once it passed left chills down his spine.
"Like I said before boy, I asked you a question and I would like an answer. Why is it that you cry in your sleep? When I found you lying in the field here you were making quite a ruckus."
Looking down at his feet and pinching the skin between his eyes and above his nose Arthur replied,
"I told you already, I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even know where I am! I woke up and the next thing I know I'm talking to a giant chameleon!"
"WATCH YOUR TONE BOY! ITS RUDE TO CALL PEOPLE NAMES!" He shouted as his skin started to swirl with deep forest green amongst the deep black.
"Names? You mean chameleon?"
"Yes that one! I dont like it and I won't have it!"
Arthur stood for a second and thought,
"But thats... you know what nevermind, I'm sorry."
"Apology accepted, and you can call me rabbit!" He said proudly as he seemed to stand up taller.
"You've gotta be fuckin' kidding me." Arthur said ever so softly under his breathe.
"And you can call me Arthur, it's nice to meet you rabbit."
