Chapter 1
~Angelina~
My baby-blue eyes scanned the digital text on the screen several times, making sure the position of the bold text hit the right angle before I adjusted the contrast of the background so the blood-red text would have a stark impact on anyone who would glance at it. Working for a significant and colossal company put a lot of pressure on my shoulders, but I didnāt mind the hard work. Unlike my other colleagues from the digital design department of the company, I loved a challenge, even if the stress sometimes nipped at my neurons.
Rogers Enterprises, the corporation I worked for, was one of the largest in the United States and well-known across the Atlantic. Anyone would kill for a place in this organization and will dream of working there. I got into this organization because of my outstanding high school and university grades, as well as several references and interviews after interviews. It had been a difficult trip, but the day I received an email confirming my admission to work in the companyās digital design department was undoubtedly the greatest day of my life. That has been one year ago, and I wouldnāt dream of leaving this job. Not only did it pay handsomely, but the CEO of the company was just as breath-taking as the salary I got every month.
Tristan Rogers, a self-made multi-millionaire, international playboy, and one of the most successful men that set foot on earth. It was hard not to notice him. He was one of the most influential Alphas Iāve ever seen, and although Iāve never seen him face to face, the pictures of him were enough to put my Omega brain into a frenzy. It came as an obligation to do some research on the man I was literally working for, and the more I read about him, the more I got intrigued, and as the first months of working for the company passed by, the man behind this empire had me into a web of fascination.
He hasnāt been one of these wealthy, pampered sons who inherited the throne from his father. He built everything from the ground up. It astounded me to learn that he was once a broke youngster who couldnāt afford a meal, but his dedication, desire, and discipline drove him to battle tooth and nail to conquer the mountain. His life tale seemed like a spring wind. It inspired me to strive and never give up, no matter how difficult life is. After a year of working for his firm, the mysterious CEO became my motivation and, dare I say, forbidden crush.
Despite getting along fine with everyone at work, I avoided gossiping and talking too much about my private life, but it was no secret every female in this building desired the handsome and powerful Alpha. Even me, but realism always overcame my Omega nature of dreaming with open eyes. Taking a break from working, I walked to the bathroom with my bag so I could take my suppressants. The last thing I wanted was to let my natural Omega scent all over the office and create havoc. My designation was no secret, but as long as I take my medication, my scent wonāt distract anyone. I wasnāt the only Omega in the office, but most, if not all Omegas, were mated, while I wasnāt. Hell, I didnāt even have my first kiss yet.
Academic challenges have surrounded me most of my life, studying and getting the best grades, so the dating game never occurred to me, not even after I presented as an Omega. At first, fear had filled me with the prospect of Alphas coming after me, but confusion overcame the fear, as the Alphas didnāt display any interest in me. On the contrary, they almost looked at me with repulsion. Back then, I was only a teenage girl, and it didnāt bother me until I entered adulthood, and the relief of not being chased down by Alphas made me feel self-conscious.
I entered the bathroom, careful to lock it, before pulling out the bottle of suppressants and taking the pills. After taking the tablets, I looked in the mirror at myself, taking in my appearance. I was only 5ā²3 in height with a petite frame. Sometimes I wish I had the curves other women sported so I could wear more feminine clothes. Every woman in this company wore skirts, dresses, and heels; the feminine attire which pulled on the maleās attention. Me? Being self-conscious and never one to chase male validation, I opted for something much more... unusual.
Black slacks and a white dress shirt adorned my slim figure, with a black vest over the white button-up and a black tie. Women loved stilettos and pumps, but I chose something comfier, such as Oxford shoes for women. My coworkers regarded my style as āvery manly but also kind of charming.ā The description made me mentally chuckle. Yes, I dressed like a businessman, but with a feminine touch. I tried to keep it as professional as possible. The last thing I needed was a reprimand for dressing provocatively at work in the hopes of catching the attention of one of the bosses.
āOr better said a certain handsome and delicious blonde Alpha CEO.ā My inner Omega purred, and I mentally slapped her for speaking in such an indecent manner.
I groaned and checked my make-up. While most women use the deepest lipstick, I like to just apply lip balm and, on better days, lip gloss. With a little mascara, I was ready to go. I kept telling myself that I was at work, not at a bar or a hangout. My long platinum-blonde hair was styled into two dutch braids, which made me look younger, especially with the round-framed spectacles that inspired an internal Harry Potter joke in the design department.
My reflection displayed reality. I looked like a geek. No, scratch that. I was the epitome of a nerd but with a bit more class. It felt ridiculous to lust after the highest in rank in this empire when I was at the bottom of this food chain. I wouldnāt stand a chance against the other women who surrounded him like a pack of thirsty piranhas. These women had more class, style, and bodies to die for, along with formidable careers. They were 10s! While I considered myself a mediocre 6.5, maybe a 7 on the splendid days. Tristan Rogers was out of my league, plus we lived in two different worlds. I could never adapt to his luxurious lifestyle. It was too much for me.
Sighing, I took my bag and went back to the office, sat at my desk, took a long sip of my black coffee, then went straight back to work.
āI heard Mr. Rogers is coming here today. Something about some inspections, and to see if there are any problems or how we can improve the design department.ā My ears perked up at the conversation, and I tensed when I heard that the famous Alpha CEO will come personally here today. Now I wish I put on better clothes, maybe more color to my pale complexion.
āOh. Already excited?ā My inner Omega teased, and I closed my eyes for a few seconds to push these feelings aside. Why was I so stressed with my looks? I doubt he will even acknowledge my presence. Iāve always been invisible to Alphas, so why would he be any different?
I returned to my computer responsibilities, going through emails and editing previous drawings. Hours passed, and I jerked my gaze away from the computer when one of my employees said that the BIG BOSS was arriving right now. Some were ecstatic, some were unconcerned, and yet others were scared. I was a jumble of emotions, chiefly interested to see if the photographs of him did him credit. My desk was at the back of the office, so I doubt heāll even see me.
Silence fell upon the enormous office when the CEO entered, and my breathing nearly stopped as I took in the 6ā²4 tall and muscular Alpha, dressed in a black tailored suit with a red dress shirt and back tie. His black Oxford shoes shone in the neon lights of the office. The pictures of him on the Internet truly didnāt do him any justice. Even from this distance, I could make out his handsome features; high cheekbones, full lips, and smokey grey eyes, so intense it made me feel like prey... and he was the predator.
His dark blonde hair was styled into a quiff, with his golden mane longer at the top and very short on the sides. He was every womanās dream man; masculine with high-class, and when he started to speak, I clenched my thighs. His voice was husky and felt like strong whiskey. Never once did he shutter or stumble over the words. There was a mysterious confidence surrounding him, and as he went over with his speech, I found myself drifting off, not paying attention to his words, but rather to the way he carried himself. His body language spoke more.
My eyes scanned him from head to toe, and anxiety pulsed through my muscles when he started to walk through the office, continuing with his speech. The closer he got to my desk, the more I felt like the temperature in the office rose, and I tried not to look into his eyes, for I knew I would lose control over my emotions. A delicious scent filled my nose, and I had a pretty good idea as to whom it belonged. I could describe the fragrance as the perfect epitome of masculinity; warm, spicy, and powdery, with notes of coffee and cinnamon. It made my mouth water, and I lost myself in a velvet dream of two naked bodies moving atop dark silk bedsheets.
The lewd daydream vanished instantly when a big hand slammed on my desk, making all my belongings on it rattle a little. My eyes widened, and I looked from the hand into glacial grey eyes. I felt like a startled deer, looking into the face of a massive wolf who had a firm expression plastered on his face. He didnāt look pleased with my daydreaming at all.
āMiss Blaine. I asked you something, but I see your mind is completely unfocused from work. I do hope this is not a normal occurrence.ā His voice sounded like the cruel wind from a frozen land, piercing my soul with icy knives. I wondered how he knew my surname, but then I remember everyone had their surnames on display on our desks.
āI-I do apologize, S-Sir. I-I had a pretty rough day, a-and I didnāt sleep well last night-ā He stopped my rambling as he moved his hand from my desk and put it up into a motion for me to stop rambling.
āIn this company, we do not tolerate excuses.ā My hands trembled in my lap at the abrasiveness which coated his voice, and I looked down in shame, nodding my head.
āY-Yes, Sir,ā I murmured, hating how I put myself in such a poor light right in front of the CEO of this company, but more so because I made an awful first impression on Tristan.
He sent me one last icy glare before he continued on with his speech, not even bothering to repeat the question. I squeezed my eyes shut and focused on each of his words in case he will come back again with another question. This was strike one, and I heard murmuring from my other colleagues about how lucky I was that I got off so easily. I could only imagine what he did to others who slacked off. The rest of the meeting went by quickly, and at the end, Tristan spoke with the head leader of the design department. Checking the clock, I saw it was time to leave and everyone started to collect their stuff, ready to leave. I did the same and looked forward to getting home and having a long bath after this stressful day.
āHey, Angie!ā I looked up and meet dark green eyes accompanied by a huge grin. They belonged to Marcus, one of my coworkers, and a sweet Beta.
āHey.ā I offered a shy smile, continuing to clean my desk.
āI was wondering if you want to have coffee tomorrow after work... or maybe catch on some dinner?ā His offer surprised me, and before I could even answer him, I heard my surname being called from across the office. I instantly tensed, knowing to whom the voice belonged. Looking up, everyoneās eyes were on me, and I met the strict grey eyes of my boss.
āI would like to have some words with you in my office. Now.ā He said before he left the design department, not even waiting for me. After he left, everyone began to whisper, looking at me with concern, and others with sympathetic looks.
āDonāt worry. I am sure itās nothing that bad.ā The leader of this department assured me with a friendly pat on the shoulder.
āTristan Rogers, calling someone into his office is never good. May the devil have mercy on your soul.ā One of the coworkers commented, and I sighed, putting the strap of my bag on my shoulder before leaving, heading to the devilās headquarters.
His office was on the last floor, so I had to take the elevator. I kept tapping my foot as I glanced at the floor numbers going up until I reached the last one. The silver doors slide open, and I stepped outside, walking down the long hallway towards the double dark mahogany doors at the end. My anxiety grew, and this entire situation felt like going to my execution. All Tristan needed was a guillotine, and I was ready to end my misery. Reaching the doors, I stopped and read over the golden letters on the dark wood.
CEO Executive Mr. Rogers
Shivers went down my spine, and I gripped the strap of my satchel bag tightly with one hand while the other formed a fist before it inched toward the dark wood, giving three light knocks.
āCome in.ā The rigid and masculine voice from the other side resounded. Sighing, I gripped the golden doorknob, ready to open the gates to hell and face the wrath of my boss.
