Forgotten Promise

“Are you nervous?”Amanda asked.

I nodded fondling nervously with my fingers.

“Don’t worry dear you would get the job”

How is she so sure?

I came out of lift thinking she was following behind me but she wasn’t.

“Just walk up straight and turn to your right you would see his office or you can just ask someone for directions” she explains as the lift door began to close.

“W-wait Amanda you said you would-” It shut close making sign.

Where did she say I should go again left or right? I was too nervous I didn’t get everything she said.

I think she said I should walk up straight and turn…..left?

"Or was it right?" I asked myself.

Mrs Amanda is my mum’s best friend,now she promised to help me get a job at her son’s company and now she is letting me go there alone, knowing full well that I am afraid of him.

I got lost so I asked a guy that was passing by with some files in his hands for directions.

“Excuse me sir, sorry but I was wondering if you could show me to the CEO’s office?” I asked.

“hmm... alright you're going the opposite direction just walk up straight turn right and then right again” he motioned.

"Ah yes thank you."

On arriving there I stared at tall brown door feeling more nervous than before.

Hopefully he would not remember me and everything will go well.

I let out a deep breath. Ok Alexa you can do it.

I was about to knock when I heard“GET OUT!”

Two people dressed in suit a man and a woman opened the door before I could even knock.

They started at me for a while before storming away.

I was no longer just nervous but afraid.

I mustered the courage and just knocked.

“Come in!” I heard him say.

I entered insideI noticed looked younger than I thought although, Amanda didn’t look old she was in her fifties.

Ofcourse he is young. We practically grew up together, why did I imagine him as an old man.

He had dark brown hair packed into a downwards ponytail and green eyes.

“How long do you plan on staring?” He asked and I notice an accent in his voice.

“Oh sorry” I felt ashamed that I was shamelessly staring at him without even noticing

“Are the person my mum sent to work as my assistant?”

"Y-yes I suppose” I nodded feeling a bit relieved that Amanda told him before hand.

“Please give me a minute I won't be right back” He says standing up and walking towards a small room which I suppose was the bathroom.

I sat down waiting wondering if he recognised me.

I mean even if he does that wouldn't get in the way of me getting the job right?

He came back, and then did an interview for me.

I submitted my CV and he asked me a few questions.

“Okay you have got the job” He said.

I was surprised.

"Sorry?"

"I said you got the job or you don't want it anymore?"

I was relieved and overjoyed.

“Thank you sir, I am very grateful, so when should I start?” I asked.

“Today"

“Ah O-okay then”

I wasn't expecting that

He pointed at some file “sort it out for me then get me a cup of coffee, Mr Matthew would soon be here to show you to your office.”

I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in!"

The door opened and it was the same guy from earlier that I asked for directions from.

“What was your name again?”

“Alexandra Millson”

Ah maybe he really doesn't remember me. It's a good thing I guess.

“Alexandra I know you going to college we would discuss about how you are going to balance school and work life but for now Mr Matthew will show you to your office."

“Oh ok thank you”

He seems nice.

I sorted out the files and was heading to his office again.

I heard a knock my office door and I opened to check who it was only to see a lady who wore a white top and peach skirt her face was caked with makeup.

She eyed me from head to toe.

“So are you his new assistant?”

“Y-yes?”

“I would like to see Kelvin” She called him by his first name.

“Ok I am heading there right now, so you could follow me” I said.

As I was walking to his office I could feel her eyes glaring at me I just knew she didn't like me.

“Sir Miss Sydney is here to see you”

“Just let her in” he said and I signal her to enter.

I dropped the files on the table.

“I am done sorting it out” I said.

He smiled “That was fast”

Sydney cleared her throat.

“Oh Sydney what are doing here?” he asked.

She looked at me.

Maybe she wants to talk to him in private.

So I left.

“Who is she?” I heard her ask.

“My assistant of course”

“I have never seen you with a female assistant before” She said.

I shouldn’t be ears dropping.

“How is that any of your business? If you are here to tell me what to do you can just leave, we are just business partners Sydney get-”

I stopped listening I better just get the coffee before I get caught ears dropping.

I came back with the cup of coffee.

Miss Sydney glared at me, stormed out and slammed the door behind her.

What in the world did I ever do to her?

What a dramatic first day of work.
