CHAPTER 1

Monday

I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock. 6:30 A.M. The sun seeps through my slightly open curtains waking me up. I slide myself out of my heap of blankets and pillows and unto my warm, dark, chestnut brown, floors. I walk into the kitchen where my parents are having a cup of tea.

"Good morning mum, dad."

"Good morning love." My Father says in his British accent while lifting his head up from the newspaper he’s reading.

"There’s some tea and muffins on the table if you’d like some." My Mum says.

"Thanks." I respond. "Maybe later."

I emerge out of the bathroom wearing my black and blue striped shirt, and, my black skirt, which fell just above my knees. To complete my uniform, I pull the long, knee high, black socks up my calves and enter into my room. I pack my bag with all the things I need for my day.

"Math book, English book, reading book, chemistry book, homework." I read some of the items out loud while I put them in my bag. Good I think I got everything.

“Mum, dad, I’m going!” I shout out.

“Be safe love.” My dad calls back.

I slip on my black coat, pull open the front door and step outside. The air is thick with moisture as the early morning breeze rushes over me. The cars and traffic are slowly starting to seep in as I look at my watch. 7:15 A.M. I take a deep breath in and start my walk to school. I like walking to school. Especially in the early mornings when the air smells like crisp apple pie and nice warm coffee. I see the busy parents dragging their kids' away from the shops and cafe's.

"But Mummmmm." One kid wails. I chuckle to myself. Today marked the first day of the last term of the year. I am happy that the stress inducing school year is almost over but I still have a lot of things I want to do before then.

It's going to be a long day.

I enter the school gate and see my friend, Roseanne, further up the path. I catch up with her and just when I'm about to tap her on the shoulder something else catches my eye. A Slick, white BMW rolls into the drop of zone. A boy climbs out looking like something straight out of some k-drama and closes the door behind him.

I turn to face Roseanne again to see that she's already looking.

"Do you know who he ?" I ask Roseanne.

"Oh, that's my friends brother, David."

"Does he go to this school? I've never see him before."

"No, his parents just enrolled him, because his brother was doing so well here." She says while she examines her finger nails.

After a few seconds I ask,

"wait, are you talking about Joseph?" I say while leaning back on the pole behind me.

"What."

"Your friend, his brother." I say motioning my hand toward David, who was already making his way to the reception.

"Oh, that, yeah." She says turning to face me. "He's really dreamy. I've been friends with him for a while now. I'm thinking of asking him out."

"Cool." After a few pauses I say, "how come I've never met him."

"I don't know. He's in year 12 so he goes to the other campus. But I want you two to meet! Maybe I can introduce you to his brother then."

"Thanks." I say quickly.

The bell rings. I take I deep breath in.

Schools in session.
