In another masterfully written story by Eden Quinn, "Begged to be Ruined" delves into themes of obsession, possessiveness, and the desire for control in a relationship. It explores self-destruction, and the allure of chaos, but also the desire for transformation. Both Tate and Nikita's behaviour seem to be inviting "ruin". Tate's desire for Nikita, his desire to *own* her at any cost, perfectly fits with what is already hinted at in the title: (self-)destruction. His pursuit of Nikita, becomes that of a man "begging to be ruined" - with a grenade lodged in his chest. He can’t let her see the storm he's carrying. So he does what a lot of people do when they need to hide pain. He uses control as a weapon to "ruin". But is it a "ruin" that is desired and pursued for the seductive nature of forbidden and dangerous things? Or is the "ruin" really only a change from a state of wholeness to one of brokenness - one of loss of innocence, purity, and happiness? "Begged to be Ruined" ultimately portrays the intense pressure and potential for destruction that arises from the difficult choices that both Tate and Nikita have to make. He will burn the world down to protect her. And when he sets the world on fire, will they both burn out with it, or will they burn the "world" together? And if, in the ashes, she finds the space to create something better for herself: will they choose to embrace their fears? Will Tate and Nikita's "ruin", in the end, have the potential of being a catalyst for a new beginning? Or is the trust and stability they worked so hard to built going to be replaced by devastation and loss? While Love is the overriding theme of the story, a reader should always remember that Eden Quinn is *not* interested in portraying a prettied-up, delicate version of the emotion. Love, in the Eden Kingdom, is a bloodthirsty emotion that captures individuals and slingshots them against their own world, and, at times, against themselves. It portrays the chaos and passion of being in love, combining jealousy, possessiveness and control in an impressionistic storm, leading to the story's very satisfying conclusion. I will 100% recommend 🖤🖤"
