Interesting plot

It was okay, past and present tense need some work though.

Great YA novel

This is a work in progress but so far it's already shaping up to be a great story, my daughter is 20 and she was impressed by how fast paced and intuitive it felt to her. The characters are well defined and the descriptions of the background are imaginative and bring the story to life

I'm looking forward to the next instalments

Intense and emotionally sensitive

The first thing you'll notice is that the characters are well formed which is the most important part of any story that's going to pull you in. The author has created beautiful backdrops which are described imaginatively and lend the whole book a sense of reality so the reader knows where they are.
Excellent use of language and it's obvious that a lot of time and attention has gone into this book and into developing on going themes and topics.

I would highly recommend it and will be following this author to see when more are released!

Thought provoking and as dark as promised by the title!

Starting with the personal disclosures in the foreword and through the beautiful, yet emotionally painful poetry this was captivating. These are poems that will make you think and may evoke your own personal history at times, as someone who has worked with people with enduring mental health for many years I found these especially poignant and they raised some memories of specific patients who these poems would apply to. I would love to see these used as part of world mental health day as I feel that they would express the dark and often overwhelming feelings, emotions and thoughts that many people struggle with day to day.

The author is clearly sensitive and compassionate and her empathy shines through the darkness on every page. I will be going back to her collection to read more!

Intriguing plot and well thought out characters

It was especially interesting to have a lead character who is an elective mute, this then gave the author the opportunity to bring in the use of sign and lip reading which gave the book an inclusive feeling that is often missing.
The plot and the characters are well developed and the intrigue and suspense is carefully built chapter by chapter leaving the reader to build their own images and ideas of where it might be leading. I liked the main character's name and the link to the song although in my head it's always UltraVox singing it!
There are some grammatical errors and minor spelling mistakes, but that's a common problem we all face, after reading and re-reading a great number of times I find my eye slides over them in my own work and it's not until someone else has a check for me that they get spotted!
The book would definitely appeal to a YA audience, my daughter who is 20 also read it and reported that she was intrigued and kept interested all the way through. (Two reviews in one!)

Authentic characters with imaginative backdrops

As someone who doesn't usually read Sci-Fi I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the storyline and characters in this book so much!
As an on going work in progress I have had access to the first 3 chapters and I raced through them, almost in one sitting. The story's plot is starting to build up and we've been introduced to the main characters and backgrounds so you already get a good picture of the world that has been created by the author.
The only suggestion that I'd make would be to ask a trusted someone to proof read through before publishing, we all do it and it's common to re-read it so many times that you can't see where occasionally words might be mis-spelt or a small grammatically incorrect issue has arisen.
There was one particular spelling error (possibly an autocorrect situation?) where Janzacca has become Jamaican which might be an issue for some readers depending on the context it comes up in.
Overall the writing style was interesting and original, for me personally the use of capitals to demonstrate someone being emphatic or shouting didn't translate well onto the format we read the books in but this doesn't take away from the innovative storyline and interesting characters that are being developed in the early part of this book.
I very much look forward to picking up on the rest of this story as it's published, I haven't yet tried writing on the set format provided and was interested to see how well it works especially for releasing early tasters of the book to come. I'm a great fan of reading in a series where you have to wait for the next instalment, much like Stephen King releasing Green Mile in Novella format. I remember waiting around WH Smiths each time a new part was due to come out!
