Prologue
Eric Yagaro sat in the library of Soyagone, reading a book. Not just any book though, this one was called Enemies of the Sorcerer Kingdom. It was essentially a list of criminals and Demorians that had threatened the Sorcerer Kingdom both in the past and currently. Every copy of this book was magically linked to the original kept in the War Room of the Royal Palace, and was updated every now and then with information.
Eric sat looking at the first page, which showed an image of his archnemesis.
Corgo,
Better known as Corgo The Bat Demon, is the most dangerous, powerful, and sadistic demon to ever plague the Sorcerer Kingdom. He cannot be killed by any common sorcerer. One thousand years ago, King Zaro gave him an enhancement that makes him immune to all sorcery, the only thing thought to be able to work according to the prophecy of Azon V is red sorcery, which appears only once every thousand years. So we must wait until the next red sorcerer is born.
It appeared this hadn’t been updated yet to include Eric. Maybe he would suggest something to whoever kept the log of this. He had a feeling he knew who it was. Taro Volk. The man who had labeled Eric’s mother Margery a traitor, though he had realized that was a mistake. Still, Eric felt a bit of resentment for the head of the Military Branch. Still he knew Taro had changed, at least a bit. He looked at the picture of the monster that had killed his parents (and who knew how many others) for a moment. He turned the page to the next person. He recognized him from the visions he’d had before the Bloodfeather crisis.
Noculus, a member of the Century Terrors, has no physical arms but uses ones made of sorcery, has a circlet that bestows him with sight sorcery. Has raped countless woman over the course of almost two centuries. Said to be as evil as Corgo, and is fiercely loyal to the demons of Panarus.
Eric remembered vaguely hearing Noculus say he would gladly sacrifice his own children to summon demons. He shivered and had to agree that this man was a monster. It didn’t matter that he could live for centuries and create more children, such an act was utterly unforgivable.
Eric went through several others. He’d seen Gowe before as well in his visions. Then came… Laman Serfier, who was currently a traitor to the Demorians and still an enemy of the Sorcerer Kingdom. Eric could recall from his visions that Corgo had mentioned him when he’d returned to Demoria. Laman just wanted power for himself, or so he’d heard. Raspatar, a Century Terror that was already dead, at the hands of one Orvalor Presteeg no less. Eric’s eyes widened, the Captain of his family guard, his Great Uncle, had killed a Century Terror? He’d have to ask about that the next time he saw him.
He turned the next page.
Lixon Rologon. A Traitor to the Sorcerer Kingdom who joined the Demorians.
Eric’s eyes widened at this. A traitor to the Sorcerer Kingdom? But why? Why would he do that? He looked at the page, it didn’t give any information on Lixon’s reasons. But it did say that he was an incredibly powerful Beast Knight. Eric looked the glyphs in the right corner of the page that showed Lixon’s known powers. A greater body fist and a…. dragon head! So, he was born in the Year of Sky like Eric, but in the month of the dragon. It also said he had a dragon of his own. Eric frowned at that, as it likely meant that he, his family, or someone connected to them had paid dragon hunters to steal an egg from Dragoran, or maybe bred captured dragons.
Eric shrugged. Whatever the reason Lixon had betrayed the Sorcerer Kingdom, it couldn’t be good. Maybe he felt the war was lost, and he’d be better off with the Demorians. Or a mercenary perhaps, maybe they’d bought him off? Or offered him immortality? There couldn’t be any good reason to join the Demorians? Could there?
