An eye-opening narrative.
"The storyline succeeded in its mission of presenting an eye-opening viewpoint on warriors guarding borders. The story maintained a good balance between emotion and practicality. Counting on the author to write more stories."
Very well done!
"Amazingly done with good punctuation and grammar!"
Great work!
"I read the first chapter and I really enjoyed it! I like the perfective of Jack talking to Bill. I thought the writing was smooth and you were able to paint a picture. I'm excited to read more! "
Solid Flash Fiction
"You get exactly what you expect from the blurb, with a little more. The author set themselves in a position where this lone soldier, literally, is talking to himself and has to carry the emotional weight, to which he does quite well. There were many times I was wowed by the imagery, painting this sullen farewell among many others lost. I will say in terms of narrative, I didn’t feel the scene come together because I feel like I never got to know this tragedy. Being our only character, I think it would help to show him ruminate more than just the war with the departed. However, the emotional core is brimming and there is a lot to like about this short and bittersweet scene. "
Beautiful writing style makes a beautiful book.
"After 1 chapter, I can tell the author put time and effort into this book. I really appreciate this writing style from the author. If I were to adumbrate it, I'd say it's similar to the style of Dan Brown; Using a variety of point of views to create a suspenseful novel, to keep the reader intrigued all the way. It's rare, or at least uncommon, to see such a writing style where the author genuinely takes into consideration the cultural context of the story. The use of apostrophise to drop letters in certain dialogue really adds an extra layer of realism into the story. Many authors tend to use modern dialogue for a story set in the archaic English period. Where the author excels in his writing, he certainly does not lack in plot and character development. The character's such as Jack have been beautifully though out. I'd certainly agree that he is an interesting character, and I like how the author leaves some holes in his story for the reader to fill in for themselves. His amorphous personality somewhat allows the reader to fill their own ideas in his shoe, making him a slightly different character depending on the reader, which is a tricky yet possible task to do as a writer; one that this writer has done perfectly. Does the author make mistakes? Of course, like many, the author has gotten extremely involved in the minute details of the story, he fails to realise that he missed large points. But don't we all? As a writer, it's alright to get so caught up into the actual story, you miss basic things, like in this author's case... subject-verb agreement. However, this was such a small error, that would go un-noticed by many people. Other, more adept, readers will notice these small, minute details that the author left out... but in the end we forget about it, because as we continue reading we our eyes feast upon a truly amazing story. Well done author, you're going places. Inst1nctualWater. "
Very powerful scene
"You did a good job with this scene. I was able to picture it very well. I liked the way you wrote the dialect, it was realistic and it didn’t seem forced or faked. This is a pretty heavy scene but you did a good job with it and you tackled difficult topics associated with war with grace. I do wonder if changing the title to be more specific to Jack or this scene would be something to consider because this is very different from Tolstoy’s War and Peace"
Heartbreaking
"Let me just say that this story spoke from the heart which reflected in your writing and it was gut-wrenching to listen to the soldier partake in one final last goodbye. Pure descriptive,I think you should work on immersion and plot to helps your readers but regardless you have a future as a writer. "
