Chapter 1

Maxwell Delfia of the Delfia family is a very rich young man. He has spent his whole life growing up in the bustling city of Laftington City.

There is always strange things going on. In fact, although it is believed that the mayor is in control, he isn’t. There is another man who has control of the city. Men hiding on every street and in every business know the truth.

Max’s dad is a wealthy business man and the head of a family business. The young man is also a part of the business. One day, Max will take his dad’s place as boss of the company. This has often been a point of argument between him and his six other siblings.

Today is a special day for Max. That is because it is his 16th birthday. Everyone knows that the 16th birthday is one of the most important. Still, though, Max has had to go to school, much to his annoyance.

“Dad, hey… I’m like, really bored. Can you like, come get me outta diz dump?” Max asks in a monotone voice on his cellphone to his dad.

“Maxwell, what did I tell you about calling me fer non-emergencies?” Max’s dad replies.

“It is an emergency. I’m stuck in study hall. I don’ need study hall. It’s like, a massive waste of time,” Max argues. "Come on, dad. It’s my birthday, after all.”

“Yeh can’t always get what you want,” Max’s dad replies, firmly. "But, today, you got lucky. I’m callin’ a ride for you now. Sit tight.”

“Yes? Thank you, dad! I knew I could count on you!” Max exclaims and hangs up.

The other students in study hall glare at Max. His happiness has gotten too loud for everyone. Max laughs a little and bows politely before leaving the room. Nobody dares stop Max because they fear his dad.

“Agent Emerald Dust, we have’s an issue at the school again,” Max’s dad says on the phone to one of his men.

“An issue, eh? Iz it the fun kind?” asks Mr. Dust, briefly looking at his wall of tools.

“No. Just get my lad outta there,” Max’s dad says.

“Got it, boss. I’m on it,” Mr. Dust says, sounding upset.

One of Mr. Dust’s most common jobs is to drive Max places. It is not a fun job, but someone has to do it. Mr. Dust would much rather be out working on the streets than dealing with the brat. Max and the agent do not exactly get along as well as they should, even though they are family.

Mr. Dust drives up to the school. Max has been waiting in front of the school building. Mr. Dust gets out of his car. Then, he opens a door so the boy can get in. Max is rather tall for his age and skinny like a twig.

“Watch your head,” Mr. Dust says.

“I hate your car,” Max says.

“Get in. We’s going to the boss,” Mr. Dust says.

“He likes me more than yeh,” Max says rather plainly.

“I know,” Mr. Dust says.

Max and Mr. Dust are quiet for a few minutes. The traffic is bad. Max then begins to complain of hunger. His stomach makes a loud hungry noise.

“Dusty, I am hungry. We need to stop for food,” Max says.

“No, we ain’t stopping here,” Mr. Dust replies.

“I am hungry. I need to eat. They do not feed me enough at that school,” Max argues.

“No. Da boss says to get you home. I’ll do that,” Mr. Dust says.

Max then reaches over. The front of the car has a phone built in and Max uses it. Before Mr. Dust can hang up, Max’s dad picks up.

“What’s da prob?!” Max’s dad asks sounding worried.

“I am hungry,” Max says. “Tell Dusty I need my Wiccy Burgers.”

“Agent, you’s know the rules. Get my boy some chow!” Max’s dad yells.

“Alright. We’s are coming back late,” Mr. Dust says and hangs up.

“I want 16 burgers. One fer each year,” Max says.

“I will buy you the burgs,” Mr. Dust says with a pause.

“Yes, thank you,” Max says.

Mr. Dust switches on his turn signal. He leaves the traffic. Wiccy Burgers, a common restaurant in the city, is one of Max’s favorite places to visit. There is a building on every street it seems and thousands upon thousands of orders are filled daily.

“Can you really eat 16 burgers, li’l man?” Mr. Dust asks as they enter Wiccy Burgers.

“You already know I could,” Max says.

“Scram! I need ta get this guy some burgs!” Mr. Dust says to the others in line.

The people in the line remove themselves. Mr. Dust then walks up and orders Max his 16 burgers. The workers get to work quickly, not wanting to keep the agent waiting. Max leaves with his burgers, plus fries and a few drinks.

“Thanks, Dusty. I guess you did good,” Max says.

“Make sure dey got your order correct,” Mr. Dust says.

“No, you,” replies Max.

Mr. Dust checks the bags. He hands them back to Max after that. The boy eats his burgers the whole way home. Traffic is so bad that all the food is gone before they make it home.

“I need the bathroom,” Max says.

“Yeh hang on. There is too much traffic,” Mr. Dust says.

“No, I need ta go,” Max says.

“Can you hold it?” Mr. Dust asks.

“No,” Max says.

Max opens the car door and escapes. One little-known fact about the Delfia family is that they are all Wolf-shifters. Max turns into a wolf and runs away through traffic. Mr. Dust groans, but continues slowly moving through traffic with the door open.

“And I’m back,” Max says, hopping back into the car in his wolf form.

“Ahem,” Mr. Dust says.

“Right,” Max says, transforming back into a human.

“We will be home in thirty minutes,” Mr. Dust says.

“That’s a long time,” Max states.
