Prologue; Gillian
"Lord Zaviyar would be back in a week. That is the longest he takes in these conquests. The smaller tribes do not stand a chance."
I nodded. A week. It was enough to get to understand this place without Zaviyar's constant attention and flirting.
I looked up to Prime minister, Conrad. His eyes were lowered to the wine in front of him, a small smile playing on his lips.
I couldn't help but wonder. Was he friends with the owner of this body? Were they tight? He always visited, and it made me wonder.
"Gillian..." His voice trailed off.
He always did that back then too. When he would say something important. When he needed to get my attention.
"You can speak. Is something wrong?"
I haven't gotten used to sounding like that, with the medieval accent. And these clothes...
"When is it happening?"
"What do you mean?"
He swallowed, then rubbed at his temple. "Please stop playing dumb. Zaviyar will be away. If he is here, there is no way we can leave. Have you given up already? Are you succumbing to him already?"
I swallowed hard, tryng to understand him, but I could not. There was so much I needed to understand already. Somehow, I am watching my fiance's past life as a participant of it. Somehow, I am engaged to Zaviyar and somehow...
"You know you will not be able to hide the child for much longer. Also, you know you can not give my child to Zaviyar, I shall not allow that."
My eyes snapped up to him, as I felt my breath hold in my throat. "A child?"
"What is wrong with you, Gillian? Our child! The product of our passion! Have you forgotten the night four moons ago?"
Everything slowly started to make sense. Not sense, but...it started to spiral even more out of control. Gillian, no, I...I am pregnant for the prime minister, my betrothed's best friend.
