Phase 3: A New Dawn
PHASE 3
With their tails behind their legs, the Saviours did the walk of shame after crossing through the hex and getting out of the car they had stolen from the concert. It was clear from the way they walked back to the mansion that they were defeated and it would take a while before they were back to full force because they had suffered a crushing defeat tonight.
Jess and Aliyah were the first to go into the house. They turned around to see if Maximus wanted some company but he gestured at them to go and get some rest, signalling that he'd be fine. They did as he said and went upstairs to their room while Maximus kept walking and headed to the back of the house.
Mira didn't think it was a good idea to leave Maximus alone at this time because she remembered how impulsive he could be. He hadn't been impulsive for a long time but the amount of loss they had suffered today could make him do something crazy so she decided to follow him to whatever part of the house he was going to.
While she followed the Alpha, Michael walked up the short stairs but he didn't hear Jill walking with him. He turned and saw that she wasn't moving, almost like she didn't want to come inside.
"Aren't you coming in?" Michael asked her.
"I'm not," she said with a strange look in her eyes.
"Why not?" Michael asked and walked over to her.
"The reason I came here and fought alongside you and your pack was so I could stand a better chance of finding Gable so I could kill him for what he did to Jack. Tonight was my chance, probably the only one I would ever get and I missed it. There's no point staying here anymore so I have to go back," Jill said.
"No, you don't. You can stay with us. You don't have to be alone," Michael told her.
"You don't understand. This isn't about being alone. I don't belong here. You guys are werewolves and I'm a Chasseur. We cannot coexist in the same space for long. I joined the pack because it was convenient for me at the time but that time has come and gone, so it has to end," Jill moved closer to him and placed a hand on his cheek.
"You're one of the good ones, Michael. I'm happy that I met you and that I got to know you. You and everyone else in this pack are proof that werewolves aren't the monsters I was made to believe they were when I was a little girl. You give the world hope and you give me hope as well," she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
"Goodbye, Michael and if fate permits it, we'll meet again," she said before she turned around and started to walk away.
"There should be newborn vampires all over town wreaking havoc. Are you sure you'll be alright on your own?" Michael asked out of concern.
"Don't let it bother you, Michael. I can handle myself," Jill said and made sure her handguns were loaded as she walked away and made it out of the hex.
Michael was sad that she was leaving but he understood her reasons and as much as he wanted her to stay, she had made her choice and he had to respect it. Maybe it was for the best anyway. He and her would never have worked out so it was better that it ended like this.
He went back inside to rest until the pack could heal and get back on their feet because as of this moment, the Saviours were out of commission.
Gable arrived at the estate and there were only a few Mudders there; the ones who were too weak, young, or unprepared for such an important event and were left behind to guard the fortress.
When they saw Gable drive in, they ran over to him to inquire about what had happened at the concert because the local news was already blowing up with reports about people being attacked by other people on the streets and the chaos it was causing. The reports also said that everything originated from the long-anticipated werewolf concert that took place just a few hours ago.
"Gable, are you okay?" One of them asked when he saw that the beta was bleeding from his chest and face.
"I'll be fine, but the Alpha is very hurt and we need to get him inside," Gable responded hoarsely.
"Where are the others?" Another one asked.
"They're all dead or scattered," Gable answered.
"Even the Luna?"
"Even her," he said emotionlessly.
They opened the back seat and two of them carried Cornelius Primo inside the mansion and to his room. Gable followed behind them, leaking blood as he did but his wounds were the least of his worries. What he really cared about was Primo's well-being and survival.
The young betas took their Alpha into his chambers and following Gable's instruction, they placed him on his bed.
"Now what?" One of them asked.
"Go outside and guard the entrance. Make sure no one unknown gets into the estate. This is a lockdown until the Alpha recovers. Go," he ordered and they all ran out.
Primo was in very bad shape and it wasn't looking good for him. Gable moved closer to him and noticed that his wounds were barely healing. They usually healed faster than this but this time, you couldn't even notice it and Gable wondered why.
Minutes later, the door to the room burst open and Doctor Harrison ran in like the madman he was and went over to the Alpha.
"I came as soon as I heard. How is he?" Harrison asked Gable.
"He's in terrible shape and I don't know why but he's not healing," Gable said to the doctor.
"These wounds! Who inflicted them on him?" The doctor asked after analyzing Primo's injuries.
"Maximus Cullen. I saw his eyes. He's an Alpha now," Gable said hatefully.
"That's why Primo isn't healing quickly. He was injured by the claws and fangs of another Alpha and it could take a long time for him to heal," The doctor said.
"But, he will heal, right?" Gable asked.
"Yes, eventually, but I'll need to clean his wound and sew him up..."
"You're not doing any of that," Gable protested immediately, "I'm not letting put your hands on my Alpha because I don't trust you. If his wounds need to be cleaned, then I'll do it myself but you are not touching him."
"How can you take care of him when you're in this state?" Doctor Harrison asked the wolf, "I know you don't trust me with the Alpha but at least, trust me with you. You need someone to stitch up your ear so it doesn't get infected and you also need someone to get that bullet out of your chest."
"How did you know...?"
"I'm a doctor, Gable. I can tell. The bullet's silver, isn't it? If you leave it in there too long, it'll cause permanent and lethal damage. Let me help you. You'll be awake throughout the entire process and see the things I use to make sure I don't go... overboard," The doctor offered.
Gable didn't have any other choice but to accept. Doctor Harrison was the only doctor in the entire house and Gable wasn't able to do it all by himself.
"Fine! Patch me up but if I see you try to inject me with anything, I'll rip off your head."
The streets were in chaos just like the news stations reported. Newborn vampires were raging, taking people and sucking their blood like an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The newborn werewolves on the other hand were still normal people; at least they thought they were.
After a human is bitten by a werewolf, they become sick and slowly feel the effects but won't be able to shift until their first full moon and that wasn't going to happen for another two days.
Jill managed to slip through the chaos unbothered by any vampires and she snuck into her shop. She made sure the Wolfsbane smell was still strong in the shop and she locked down the entire place. She also put on some UV lights to make sure no vampire would try to break in looking for food because the rays would burn them.
After making sure she was safe, she went down into the backroom but as she moved, she stumbled on her steps. She was woozy and could barely stay on her feet.
"What's happening to me?" She asked herself as she realized that something was wrong with her.
She found her way down and pulled a chair out before falling into it. She blinked her eyes rapidly and slapped her face, trying to keep herself awake but it wasn't working.
Then, she felt the throbbing pain in her arm. That was the source of her dizziness but why? She wondered. Jill took off her jacket so she could inspect the wound and after she did, she saw what it was and sighed in devastation.
She had a scratch on her arm; a scratch from a werewolf's claws. She must have gotten it during the fight at the concert but was just realizing it now.
A scratch from a werewolf's claws on a human was almost the same thing as a bite. In a lot of ways, it was even worse and Jill was distraught because she knew she was in for a change she wasn't ready for.
"Sisters! Do you see what has happened because we chose not to interfere? Raleigh is a warzone plagued by newborn vampires. There is nothing but chaos on the streets and people are dying," Peace told the elder Witches.
They were back in Jennifer's coven and were having another meeting to discuss what they were to do now that the world was sure to find out about the existence of werewolves and vampires.
"The werewolves and the vampires are what did this, Peace. Not us. We cannot control their actions whenever we want. Those are the rules," Nneka said to her.
"Don't you all see? It's only a matter of time before this affects us just as well. The world knows the truth and sooner or later, a war against humans will erupt and everything we know will change. We cannot sit back and do nothing any longer. I mean, how long do you think it will be before the humans come after us as well?" She asked.
"Right now, the world only knows about the existence of the werewolves and the vampires. Our existence will remain a secret as long as we don't expose ourselves," Tiwa put in.
"And what about Jorish? How long do you think she'll remain in the dark? She's planning something and I know it's big. With the power she possesses, she's not going to want to remain in the darkness. I know firsthand how corruptive the power of the forbidden dimension is. It makes the Witch crave ultimate power and dominance over everyone and everything. If we let the world become what it's threatening to become, she will rise from the darkness and use her powers to enslave the world and the existence of our kind will also be public knowledge and that will threaten the Order," Peace said.
"Peace is right, sisters," Jennifer finally said, "If the world is going to change, then I believe that we should too in order to survive in it. We cannot follow the old rules. We need to create new ones to help us navigate this new world."
"I agree," Francesca said, "The old laws don't seem practical anymore,"
"We cannot just choose to abandon our laws, sisters. This is the way it has been for thousands of years. Only the Queen can permit this and you know it," Morami said angrily.
"Then, I will speak to the Queen and ask her permission and I know she will give it," Peace said and turned around.
She opened a portal and disappeared, leaving the other Witches to finish their meeting on their own.
"Did anyone else notice that the vampires were bats?" Amala asked after Peace left.
"Yes, they were. Vampires cannot do that. Only one thing could have given them that ability," Morami said.
"One person, you mean," Francesca said.
"Jorish! It had to have been her. The question now is why? She's planning something, sisters, and just as Peace has said, it will put us all at risk," Jennifer said.
Lord Marcus flew into his lair as a bat and when he reached the ground, he transformed back into his man form. Darius and a few others were with him and they transformed as well.
"Well-done, my children. Cornelius Primo thought he could change the world and leave us behind. That'll teach him to not underestimate us. Be prepared, my flock. The world is about to find out about our existence and they will fight back but they will lose because we have the power and now, we also have the numbers," Marcus told them.
They all went inside to celebrate and as they did, Jorish appeared before the vampire lord and he immediately went to her to thank her for her assistance.
"There she is! The one who made it all possible," he said happily.
He had a glass of human blood in his hands and as he came closer to Jorish, she smacked the glass out of his hand in annoyance. The cup broke upon impact with the floor and all the vampires turned their attention to her angrily.
"For someone who's hundreds of years old, you sure are not wise," Jorish said to the vampire lord.
"How dare you speak to our lord like that? Do you have no..." Darius was saying and Jorish flicked her wrists and turned him into a bat so he would shut up and not interrupt her again.
She turned her attention back to Lord Marcus and continued scolding him for his lack of reasoning.
"I have a question for you, Marcus. The humans you turned tonight, where are they?" Jorish asked.
"Still out feeding because they have to," he answered.
"Do you think they know what they are and that the sun is lethal to them?" Jorish asked rhetorically because they both knew that the answer was no, "The sun will be out in two hours and your newborns are still outside feeding on people while you are in here celebrating. They will all become ash if you don't gather them and keep them somewhere safe so why are you still here doing nothing to protect them?" Jorish asked angrily.
She wasn't about to let all her hard work be for nothing so she was here to slap some sense into the vampire lord. Marcus knew she was right so he did what needed to be done.
"I'll send my children out to round them up and take them down below to our tunnels," The Vampire Lord said.
Jorish walked away from him, content that he was going to take care of it. "And the power I gave you expires in about three seconds," she said just before she disappeared.
Damien suddenly became his human form again and landed on the floor.
"Darius! Take all your brothers and sisters and find the newborns. Gather them and take them to the tunnels to hide them from the sun. After you've done that, let me know so I can speak to them and welcome them into the nest. We can't stop here. We can still grow our numbers worldwide and these foreigners are the key," Lord Marcus said with a smile.
Darius and his siblings immediately ran out of the house at incredible speeds to carry out their sire's orders. They needed to be fast because the sun would soon be out and its glow was a threat to their plans.
Jorish appeared back in her coven and immediately after she arrived, she went over to her mirror to look at her face. She was still beautiful but the few wrinkles she saw, she didn't like.
She went to her dungeon for a top-up and the room was filled with the bones of dead humans; all the women and girls that she had killed to remain beautiful. The only thing that was moving was a beautiful young woman strapped to a table.
She was one of the newborn vampires that were made tonight and Jorish had captured her earlier so she could take from her beauty.
The woman was still hungry, desperately in need of blood and she struggled to break out of the straps but couldn't despite her heightened strength. Jorish had spelled the straps so she wouldn't be able to free herself.
"Let me go! I need to eat, please," the young woman begged her.
"Don't worry, my dear. I'll feed you just as soon as you feed me," Jorish said and moved closer to her.
"What are you talking about?" The woman was confused.
"You're about to find out," Jorish said just before she began to suck her dry.
She absorbed all the youth and beauty from the vampire until she was all dried up like a rotting corpse. Jorish, however, felt refreshed and renewed. She was restored to her perfect face and skin so she walked out of the dungeon satisfied.
A few seconds later, the flesh on the vampire's face became fatter and the colour returned to her eyes. She was moving again and it was like nothing had happened to her. She screamed out for food, hungry beyond measure, shaking and struggling to get free so she could eat.
That was when the door of the dungeon opened and Jorish tossed in a human male as a meal for her new beauty source.
"Let me out of here, please," The man hit the door, begging for his freedom.
The straps that held down the vampire suddenly became loose and she became free of them. She got up and had her eyes set on the human. The smell of his blood was like a siren's call to her and she ran after him like a predator to its prey.
"Somebody, help me," the man cried out when he saw the thing that was staring him down.
The man screamed as he got attacked by her. She dug her fangs into his neck and began to suck him like a juice box, causing his screams of horror to fill the dungeon and it echoed around the entire house.
