Prologue

London, eighteen years before

A young black woman had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl with hair as black as night, skin as white as snow, and soft brown eyes. She was running away from something or someone in a panic. It was a stormy night with loud thunder and big bolts of lightning. The woman banged on a front door of a house.

The door opened and a nicely dressed woman and man stood looking at her with concern.

“Are you alright?” the man asked.

“Please, take my baby girl. Keep her safe,” the woman replied in a panic. She put her baby in the woman’s arms carefully.

“We cannot keep her,” the man continued.

“Please...I can’t look after her. I can sense you're good people and you will look after her.”

The man and woman looked at each other and then turned back to the pleading young woman who didn’t look capable of looking after such a small and delicate baby.

“Alright. What is her name?” the man asked.

“Thank you so much,” the young woman replied happily. She kissed lovingly on the forehead of the baby girl with tears running down her cheeks. “I will always love you.” She looked up and said. “I named her Lucille.” She turned and began running away.

The man and woman turned and stepped back inside the house with baby Lucille and walked over to the living room with a hot log fire roaring and sat down on the sofa. They fell in love with her instantly.

“Welcome to your new home, Lucille,” the woman said, smiling. “I’m your new mummy and this is your new daddy.”

The woman ran and ran until she tore off her dress and jumped up into the air and changed into a grey wolf. She had made the right decision by giving Lucille away. Away from her, away from danger.
