Chapter 1
“Leave from here-goddamned, I can't bear to look at you right now” He was boiling with anger directed at his mate. Dominic didn't even bother with her explanations, for he knew very well his best friend would never lie like that-
“I didn't do it, Dominic; I was back home the whole day-” she was cut off by a hiss coming from her better half, her knight in shining armor. This was it, she thought to herself…the end of the love that she so fought hard for, but she was tired, for it was never easy on anyone to hold the weight of the cracking foundation alone.
As her heart broke into a thousand pieces, she gathered the remnants of her self-respect and started to walk out of the room she shared with the one she loved… still loved, with tears filling her beautiful azure eyes. It was still nighttime, so there was no way she was going out the door alone, and she needed a plan on 'where.to.from.here.on' because I mean…she didn't have any remaining family of her own apart from this loving one here.
Yes, tomorrow morning she shall see where she shall head to, she thought to herself, making her way up to the guest room she asked the maid to prepare for her. Thank God she found Maggie before she retired for the day.
For the life of her, she didn't know what was going on, but one thing was for sure though, she was done with this.
Dominic was still pacing back and forth in his room, anger roaring and all but coating his handsome face. His mate was upstairs in one of their guest rooms after he kicked her out of their room, but who could blame him? The girl lied to him before, and he all but forgave her, not now though…not ever. His family was going to come for his ass for this, he thought, but no one was going to persuade him differently on this matter 'She was with him the entire day…all up in his face, Dom. Why are you still with her renders me speechless at that idiotic act of yours!' he thought back to his best friend's words earlier on when the pair met for coffee. As a territorial vampire like any, he didn't appreciate his woman with another, be it a friend or foe '…but here you are with your bestie' talk about double standards, he thought, but quickly brushed it off. He was a man, and he knew how to control himself…yeah right.
Upstairs in the guest room, Nataliya sat by the fireplace, tears in her eyes. This broke her heart more than when she found out that the son of a bitch banged the so-called friend in his drunken state. But she didn't say a word to him…that's how much she loved him. They met at college, and love at first sight, well, at least for her see vampires and humans started coexisting decades back thanks to their King making amends and calling everything into order. Of course, those rotten tomatoes are threatening the new but old-found peace. Nonetheless, they were dealt with every day.
There were reinforcements in place compromising both species; it was a new world order, I tell you, all hands on deck and some. After finishing college, Dominic didn't want her to work, and she didn't mind that. His family was a godsend, treating her like she was part of the family and not, for once, had they made her feel different just because she was human. She was a female worthy of the name I tell you, loved wholeheartedly and never once in her life brought harm upon another. And man, did she not irk her mother-in-law to the core with that soft heart, 'My child, your heart of gold, I am afraid to even my son doesn't deserve it.' Those were her exact words yesterday when she decided to spend the day with them playing card games.
Calvin and his girlfriend joined them briefly before disappearing to his room, she loved the family like her own, and they loved her no less. Sitting up and straightening herself, she picked a pen and a piece of paper and let her hand do all the work, for she was not going to do the goodbyes face to face with the family she probably wouldn't see again…at that thought, her heart thumped in her chest painfully so. She was going to wake up early in the morning, having called one of her friends for help and, as expected, had agreed undoubtedly to come to her aid, but not before cursing at the son of a bitch with all the colorful words you can think of.
It was Sharia, she thought to herself…yes it must have been that jealousy-filled nasty-ass friend of his. Every damn time they had an argument, she was the center of it, and she ended up apologizing-even admitting to shit she didn't know any 'bout, but that's how she was, though. She loved peace and wanted it to roar everywhere she was. Oh, beautiful Nataliya, as her mother used to come at her with her thick Spanish accent. Her parents died as soon as she started college; they loved each other and loved her more if that was even possible.
Her mother was a vampire and her father human, but that made no difference to the pair, I guess Nataliya took right from his father falling for a vamp. You got to give it to her though, the girl loved them, but she failed at one thing-keeping them. Vampires and humans might coexist, but their traditions and customs remain, although a lot of them have discarded the old ethics, culture, and traditions that were just that and shall forever remain as such.
Every vampire had a soulmate- vampire or human, but it was rare but not impossible; that didn't matter to some, and they didn't care…they loved who they loved. Our Nataliya was part of the 'some' group that wasn't concerned about that, and man, did they not break her heart? Her problem was that the minute she found someone, wedding bells were ringing in her head; she was practicing the wedding steps and the new surname signature of her new boyfriend, poor thing. She loved, and she spared nothing, but it never lasted with her; this one with Dom, though, is the longest ever; maybe that is the reason her heart is about to come right out of her mouth. She ran to the connecting bathroom and all but dry heaved with pain in her chest. Sleep claimed her right where she was planted near the toilet seat, exhaustion seeping out of her pores.
Dominic woke up later than usual, throwing his hand to the other side only to find it empty, he was about to call out her name, but memories of yesternight came bawling at him “Oh shit!” He cursed while rubbing his face with a grimace. He didn't even give her a chance to explain, with all that anger that was brewing within him-
“Brother, breakfast is served; you don't want Mom to come here herself. Come on, you two.” Yep! Just what he needed: a nosey younger brother early in the morning before he could even compose himself yippee. Calvin called out from the other side of the door. With another curse, he pushed himself out of bed and went to open the door; his irritating younger brother peaked inside in search of his favorite sister-in-law but frowned when he didn't sense her in the room. He was about to ask his brother where was she when-
“She's not here,” his brother said dryly.
“Yeah, like I didn't figure that out; where is she-” poor guy was cut off with a growl and knew instantly that shit had gone down. One thing about Dom was that he hated explaining himself, so he was going to do one here with his nosey younger brother and send him out to the living room alone to relay the message to the rest of the family, he thought to himself. That way he won't have to repeat himself, which is another thing he hated.
“Buddy, listen and listen good, yeah?” Calvin nodded, “I asked her to leave because I am tired of her bullshit; we have been going around in circles, her and me, but the lies, man… It's the lies for me. Yesterday Sharia saw her with some man, the 'friend' all PDA, and you know she won't lie to me. So get with the program-” his younger brother's dark chuckle stopped his ranting about the female, the man had to bend, not even believing what he was hearing right now. When he stopped to compose himself, his grip on his brother's wrist was lethal and no nonsense when he breathed his next words, his voice low, but he knew he heard him.
“You were lied to, fool”.
