PROLOGUE; BEWARE THE WILD CROWS

This is my last entry.

I don’t know when you’re reading this, but I am long gone.

This is my warning, don’t do what I did. I was foolish and careless.

I was cursed from the beginning, they were drawn to me even before his crow was taken from me. Maybe if my father loved me a little more, so I didn’t have to find solace in myself after Percy died.

Don’t lose your crow. That is the one thing that protects you from the curse. If you lose yours, you better pray that your days are over. You’ll never get another one. I tried for years, and I never got another one.

You don’t want to live the rest of your life shrouded in the dark cloud of grief like me. No good things come out of the wild crows, they only take until everything you have ever loved is gone and dead. You have to live life knowing you were the cause of their demise.

The wild crows took everything from me. They will not hesitate to take everything away from you.

I lost more people than I can count on both of my hands. My brother and his crow, my brother-in-law, my crow, and countless children. They almost took my wife’s life.

The Crawford Curse is not a game. It took lives before we knew about a way to stop it. Back when Arachmoor was still part of the Union.

I paid the price after centuries of the Crawfords being curse-free, and we all had to learn from it.

Don’t ever lose your crow.

Heed my warning, if you don’t, remember the poem. It may save your life.

One for sorrow,

Two for bliss,

Three for a serpent’s mournful hiss,

Four for treasure,

Five for tricks,

Six for a rose that pulls and pricks,

Seven in the garden brings pain,

Eight in the sea brings rain,

Nine for the nine that watch from the tree,

Nightmares are silver, dreams are gold,

Ten for a wish in ignorance told.

Beware of the wild crows. If they are drawn to you, prepare for the worst.
