Chapter 1
He was running.
Running through the dark forest.
The shadows seemed to envelop him as he pushed his way through the leaves and sharp twigs that poked and jetted at him.
He was running because the Demon King was following him.
He had escaped from his Husband’s stronghold, and now he was here to bring him back.
Back to the darkness,
Back to the moaning and screaming of tortured souls.
Back to his room, contained so he wouldn’t try to run, because Lucifer didn’t like it when he ran, so Ben would have to sleep on the cold floor again, shackled to the wall until he would be let out again.
It all started when I had been exploring.
It was a sunny day, and wind blew through the trees, whistling as it passed through the leaves and out into the air again, joining the rest of its kin in the sky.
“Such a beautiful day to go outside? Ain’t that right boy?” I said to my five-year-old Cocker Spaniel named Ethan.
He barked in reply, wagging his tail and jumping up on my leg, his tongue lolling out as his puppy dog eyes beamed at me.
I laughed, “Alright, Alright! We’ll go Ethan, don’t worry!” I giggled, getting up off the couch and going towards the door, grabbing his leash and hooking it up to his chain collar.
He leaped at the door, almost yanking the leash out of my hand, and making me laugh again.
He barked, pawing at the door frantically.
I opened the door, and he took off, leaving me to have to almost sprint so that he wouldn’t choke from pulling me through the town and meadow, to his favorite place, the Forest.
Many people say strange things live there, so most of the townfolk don’t even approach it’s dark exterior that shoo people away from venturing into its darky depths.
But I was accustomed to it, since Ethan liked it so much, I came here almost every day, unless I had classwork from the small school we had here.
I have dirty-blonde hair, straight, very long, almost reaching my shoulders, and cool blue eyes that are mostly lit up when I was with Ethan, since he excited me so much, I just love him.
I am very thin, people say they can see my ribs coming out of my flesh I’m so skinny, but I don’t mind it, it’s just because I mostly use my money all for Ethan, cause I don’t want anything to happen to him, since he is my best and only friend, so I use most of my money to buy food for him, and the extra I use to buy something small for my dinner, since my paycheck is only eight dollars an hour, since this is such a small town.
My parents had died when I was only seven, so I have had to fend for myself for almost eleven years now, since I was now enrolled in the small college that dominated most of the town, yet it was still small compared to the standards of those in the big city.
When I was thirteen I was permitted to get Ethan, and he has been my companion since that fateful day when I found him on the side of the road, wandering alone, no one else to be seen.
Since it had rained the night before, mud splattered the trees on either side, and most of the ground was still mushy, but I just rolled up my pant legs and went on with it, knowing that when me and Ethan got home, he would require a bath immediately.
I sighed as I inhaled the clean air. I had been to the city but once, I knew that it would be my last time.
The air there was so foggy and dirty that I had a headache and couldn’t breathe properly for almost a week.
Compared to the country air, ours was clean and sanitized, refreshing every part of me, and making me feel good, like going down a hill.
The overwhelming sense of small forest flowers dominated the air, sickly sweet but also severely drab, and in confusion, I looked down and saw a pair of them.
I gasped, stumbling away, as Ethan just looked at me, head cocked.
Flowers like those never grew here, we had a strict flower bloomage, and I knew those weren’t a part of it, cause I had never seen such beautiful specimens in my entire life, and it made me a little uneasy..
I continued the little trek with Ethan though, trying to put my mind elsewhere as I walked, just putting one foot in front of the other, as I wondered if beasts such as demons and werewolves and vampires actually existed, other than myth and legend of course, but for some strange feeling, the forest was now giving me those vibes as I wandered through the gloomy place, staring up at the branches decorated with yellow and orange leaves in accordance to Fall.
I tried to look up at the sky, but couldn’t see it. All that I could see were the tops of the trees and a leaf canopy that stretched over me and Ethan.
I was a little scared now, so I decided to go back to my little cottage in the village and get out of here.
But as I turned back, Ethan barked, sitting down.
“Boy, let’s go home, I-i’m a little uneasy..” I said, but he wouldn’t back down, he just sat there, and I sighed, knowing that I couldn’t compete with Ethan’s strong stubbornness.
So, I resumed the way we were going, glad that Ethan got up and trotted alongside me now, like he was protecting me.
Or leading me somewhere, came an unpleasant voice that lingered through my thoughts.
I shivered, shaking the uneasy feeling off and letting Ethan lead me through.
A while later, it was dark, and I was starting to get cold.
“Ethan.. Let’s head back.” But he wouldn’t stop, he just continued, ignoring me.
“Ethan..? I’m getting really cold, let’s head back please?” I murmured, tugging on the leash a little, but he just turned and snarled at me, a look in his eyes that I didn’t want to mess with.
What was going on with him? It was like something had possessed him, but that couldn’t be possible, there weren’t those kinds of things out there… Were there?
I didn’t know, but Ethan was giving me a sense of fear as we traveled still, and I trembled as suddenly, everything went black.
“Ethan?” I called, panic taking over my body now, as I wheeled around, feeling the leash slip out of my hand as I grasped around for it in the pitch black.
I felt myself fall to my knees, and then someone’s hand was on my head, and they were saying something..?
“You did good Dog.” Said a deep voice, and it made me tremble as a finger slid across the nape of my neck.
I heard a whine and a bark.
But the man just scoffed, picking me up.
I screamed, and suddenly, a hand was thrown over my mouth.
“If you keep screaming.. This little dog will be my dinner..” The man whispered into my ear, making me shiver as cold fear tore my heart in two, so I stopped, fearing for the dog that had just got me in this position, but it had to be against my will, for he was a good dog, and would never do this to his master, I knew that for sure.
Suddenly, like the cold breath of evening wind, I could feel myself falling, through an abyss, chilling my soul as I screamed, yet no sound came out.
And then, my eyes closed, and I could feel myself drifting into the deep escapes of my mind.
I woke up to a soft silky bed.
I was enveloped in the cold folds of the blankets, yet no warmth seemed to come out of them, and I was shivering, my teeth chattering as I lay there, scared to move in case I woke someone -or something- up.
Suddenly, a hand crept up my shirt, and then, I felt a heavy weight as whatever the hot being was got on top of me, almost crushing my windpipe as they laid their hand on my throat, daring me to speak.
I panted, barely able to breathe as whoever it was whispered in my ear, the same deep voice I had heard earlier.
“I know your awake~” Whisper pressed into my ear, rattling my ear drums, “Better keep quiet little mouse~”
I was stock still, my eyes wide, staring into the dark red canopy that was laid across the bed frame.
I felt a tear well up in my eye, and then slipped silently down my cheek.
I just wanted Ethan, wanting to snuggle his warm little body and rub his floppy ears.
And then, I felt lips on mine, hot and feverish, almost burning my own as they gripped my arms, pressing their lips harder, and then taking them off, and instead placing them on my neck, trailing down my flesh and making me cry more and stinging pain made the tears appear, slipping down my cheeks and landing on the pillow that I lay on.
Slowly, I felt the man on top of me ease, and then get off me and jump off the bed, leaving me there.
I wanted to get up too, but I felt like I couldn’t move, like if I did, he would hurt me, or just kill me.
He came back into the room, or what I could hear from the padded footsteps, so obviously carpet, and suddenly, a light flicked on, surprising me since I had been accustomed to the darkness.
I sat up, rubbing my eyes before looking at him.
He was in a pair of black boxers, and he was pale, pale as the moon, with silky black hair that curled every which way, but the things about him that were so strange was the fact that his eyes were red and a pair of horns protruded from the top of his skull, red, with black markings curled around the base that went around til it reached the tip, and then disappeared.
He was very buff, with a six pack, and his chin was pointed, like he could kill somebody if he stabbed them with his chin hard enough. To be honest, he was very intimidating, but then again, he was also a demon.
He also had a tail that came out of his backside, and wings were perched on his shoulder blades, hanging there as he stood, staring at me with an almost lustful expression.
I was definitely scared of this.. Teenager? Because that’s what he definitely looked like, he could pass as a student at my college, and nobody would notice, but I didn’t think he could be that young.
I looked around expectantly for Ethan, glad to have an excuse to break eye contact with the demon as I searched the room with my eyes.
“Don’t worry, he’s outside.” Said the demon, and I looked at him, and suddenly felt tears well up in my eyes again as I looked away.
He just sighed and went into what I confirmed to be a closet, because he walked out fully clothed of course.
Wearing a red suit and a black rimmed monocle.
He threw a pair of clothes on the bed, leaving without a word, but I got the gist: Get the clothes on and come out.
So I quickly slid off the clothes that I had worn yesterday, seeing that mud was patched on them, wondering why he had let me into his bed while wearing these, because it sounds just so.. Unclean.
I slid the clothes that he had left me on, revealing how soft the fabric was, and how comfy, and by the door, I spotted small slippers, just the size for my feet.
How did he know what size I wore? My feet were very small, most people think I’m a six because not many people are four and a half in shoe size, as well as clothing, since I got such a petite frame, many clothes sagged, but this fit perfectly, it just didn’t make sense.
I opened the door slowly, peering out to see the demon smoking a cigarette, and I wrinkled my nose, hating the smell of smoke.
He took the cigarette out of his mouth, holding it in his two fingers and breathing out the smoke that came from it.
“My name’s Lucifer.” He said, “I thought I should have told you that since you already know my name.”
He looked at me, his eyes emotionless as he stared into my fearful ones.
I nodded, looking down at the ground and gripping the hem of my sweater.
He briskly walked off, barely giving me any chance to react before he was at the end of the hall.
I quickly ran after him, catching up to him as he pushed a set of doors open, into a throne room.
I saw Ethan, he was muzzled, and glumly laid in a cage that was double locked so he couldn’t use his abilities as an escape artist to somehow get out.
I ran to his cage, putting my fingers in the holes to stroke his long nose as tears silently slipped down my cheeks.
“It’s gonna be alright.” I whispered to him, leaning closer to his the small thin bars of the cage, smiling smally as his solemn eyes sadly stared into mine.
I felt a stinging pain as Lucifer tapped me on the shoulder, so I obliged, getting up with my head down and following him to his throne that dominated the whole room.
He sat down, legs crossed, and beckoned me to sit on the floor right by his legs.
I felt ridiculed as I sat there, fear begging me not to speak, to remain silent and do whatever he wanted me to do.
So I waited, waited for almost an eternity before somebody burst into the throne room, eyes wide as they spoke in another language.
He switched to English when he spoke to Lucifer though.
“My King! Invaders! The Heavenly God has sent men and they have gotten past the gate! He is here himself, he wants to speak with you.” Said the man in a harried tone.
Lucifer nodded, standing up as a crown appeared on his head, scepter in hand.
Suddenly, a magnificent ball of light appeared, throwing open the doors as men and women spilled in, white wings adorned their backs, and weapons in their hands, they bowed, hands on their chests to Lucifer.
The ball of light took shape, the shape of a man, and one shaped like a woman appeared next to him.
“My son.” Said God as he looked over Lucifer, “You have grown to be just like your father.”
Lucifer bowed, a crooked smile alight on his handsome face.
“Mother, how kind of you to see me.” Lucifer said, straightening.
“Do not call me Mother! For you have broken the laws of Heaven! And take a human as your own!” Said God, striking Lucifer.
“But, the red line of fate connects us, there is no speaking against fate Mother.” Lucifer smiled again, eyes showing no emotion as he looked into God’s.
God sighed, “You are right my son, your Grandmother is not to be spoken against, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try!” He said, lifting his own scepter in the air and disappearing with a blinding flash of light.
I felt unable to speak as I watched this moment unfold.
Mother? Son? Fate? Grandmother? What did all this have to do with me? I’m just a lowly human that stumbled on all of this crap! I thought, wincing as a headache rose, pounding away.
I rubbed my temple, closing my eyes as another pound of pain broke through.
“Are you alright Ben?” Lucifer asked, bending over me with an almost.. Kind expression.
“Ya.. I’m fine.” I told him, looking away.
He touched my temple, easing the pain instantaneously.
“Better?” He asked with a crooked smile, taking his hand away.
I nodded, looking into his eyes and managing a soft smile.
It seemed he just stared at me for an eternity until he stood up, clearing his throat and walking back up to his throne, throwing himself onto it with a sigh, putting his head on his hand and seemed almost bored.
I laughed a little inside my head, seeing the King of what I would guess to be Hell acting like a child made me a little fond of him.
I hugged my knees to my chest, tired but not letting myself fall asleep, at least not yet.
My head started to loll, but I reminded myself that I had to stay awake, so I snapped myself out of the trance of staring at the golden double doors.
As soon as I looked away from the doors, they were pushed open and a bunch of people strolled in, books gathered in their arms as a couple of the soldiers grabbed a table and some chairs and put them in the middle of the hall.
One of them stalked up to Lucifer.
“Your Highness, our resources have been dwindling, what will you do?” He asked.
“Hmm, how about PUT MORE WORKERS ON THERE!” He yelled, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Well, Your Highness, it isn’t that, it’s the fact that the plants and animals are dying with no explanation from a rot coming from inside.” He said calmly, like he dealt with Lucifer’s episodes all the time, which he probably did.
He let out a burst of air, calming himself down before speaking in a low-manner voice.
“Alright, sorry Dan,” He said, “Why don’t you get our scientists to figure out the problem. We need this food to get money, and we’re running low on currency.”
Dan nodded, bowing, “Yes Your Highness, we’ll get on that right away.”
He walked away, and another came up.
“Your highness,” This one said in an overly snobby tone, “You must do your daily levies.”
“Yes, yes, do them for me.” Lucifer sighed, waving him away, he nodded and left the hall.
Another came up.
“Lucifer,” He said, “Father said he wants to set up a meeting conference with you.”
Lucifer nodded.
“James, set it for a week from now, I don’t want to deal with Him right now.” Lucifer told him.
“Yes Brother.” said James, he stepped away from the altar and also left the hall.
“No more, I’m going to sleep, today’s been a long day.” Lucifer said, waving them off as he yawned.
They quickly hurried out of the throne room, the double doors sealing as they left.
“Let’s go Ben.” Lucifer said, his red eyes staring at me as I got up, my hands clasped as I followed him out of the room.
He walked quickly through the halls, and since I was very short, I had to almost run to catch up to him a couple times, and I felt a little scared as he held open the door for me to go inside, and then stalked after me.
I held my hands to my chest as I sat on his velvet bed.
He walked into his closet, and I heard fabric rustling, which obviously meant he was taking off his clothes.
I shivered as I thought of it, fear starting to rise in my chest.
But when he came out, he went into the bathroom, and I heard the water turn on, hitting the tiled floor.
I slowly got up, trying to be quiet and not make a creak as I slid under the covers, letting my eyes close as sleep overtook me.
I woke up to Lucifer’s warm hands encircling my stomach. I didn’t know what woke me up, but I guessed that it was because my stomach was growling so much I thought I was going to puke.
I tried to get up, but his hands held me down, and I heard him groan as his eyes opened into slits.
“What do you want, Ben.” He growled, “You woke me up.”
He yawned.
“I’m sorry, I’m just hungry.” I said, lowering my head.
He put his head on my back before getting up.
He put his hand to his mouth and stretched, and I kind of liked watching as his back muscles rippled.
Then he turned around, his eyebrow raised.
“What’re you waiting for?” He asked, standing there.
“Nothing.” I murmured, getting up and following him.
The fact that he felt absolutely fine walking around in his boxers, I didn’t understand, but I knew that I would never be able to do that, but then again, it is his castle/stronghold.
He led me to the kitchen, where he opened the biggest fridge I’ve ever seen, and took something out, handing it to me.
It was a plate of cold eggs, but I was grateful for the food.
“Thank you.” I mumbled through a mouthful of food.
“Yep.” He said, walking back towards his bedroom.
Doesn’t he think i’m going to run away, or does he think I wouldn’t be able to anyway.
I probably wouldn’t because that would be betrayal, especially since he just gave me something to eat.
When I was done, I carefully put my dish in the sink, and scurried off to his bedroom, closing the door quietly behind me and getting back in his bed.
Immediately, he wrapped his ever-hot hands around my body, holding me and falling asleep, pulling me down with him.
