Chapter 1
Dolton's wife gave birth to a baby boy and they decided on the name Colton, she had a c-section and everything went smoothly he looks at his wife and new born son with so much love in his eyes "how lucky am I?" He said to himself "the woman I love and a new born son, I'm truly blessed" he thought. His wife looks up at him and smiles "what are you thinking so hard about?" He walks to her and kissed her lips "I was thinking about how blessed I am" she looks down at her son "we are blessed" she corrected him.
She looks up at Dalton and he can see that something wasn't right he see's pain in her eyes she frowns "it hurts" she said then she closed her eyes and her body went limp, scared to death Dolton hollered her name out, the nurses hearing this came running into the room to check on what's happening to find a unresponsive woman with a baby still on her chest. One of the nurses removed Colton while the other one is pushing Dolton out of the door "wait out here sir while we work with you're wife," it has been 30 minutes and Dolton is loosing his mind he is pacing outside of his wife's hospital room with both of his hands tugging on his hair.
The doctor comes out of the room then looks at Dolton with a sorrowful gaze "I'm sorry we did everything we could but we couldn't save you're wife" Dolton looks at the doctor with blood shot eyes "what did you say?" he heard the doctor the first time he is just hoping he heard it wrongly, the doctor repeated what he said, Dolton shook his head "no..no it can't be true" then he ran into his wife's room. Seeing the nurse cover up his wife with a white sheet he lost it he ran to her side and jerked the sheet off "no she's not dead" he said as he gently strokes her cheek "come on baby wake up" he said in a horse voice as tears rolled down his cheeks but no matter what he did she wouldn't respond to him.
3 DAY'S LATER
He don't remember how he left the hospital everything just seemed to blur after he realized that not matter what he did she wouldn't respond to him, his mom walks over to him with Colton in her arms he looks at his son he don't seem as happy as he did 3 days ago when he would look at him he still loves him but for some reason he wants to place blame on him for his wife's death.
Looking down at his wife in her coffin he closes his eyes "please let this all be a bad dream" he silently prayed when he opened his eyes reality smacked him in the face, he bends down and kissed her cheek "good bye my wife I'll always love you" he whispered then walked away as tears ran down his cheek.
2 hours later watching his wife's coffin get lowered in the ground he silently said to himself "I'll never fall in love again this hurts to much," his heart went into the ground with the love of his life.
The next day he walks up to his son that is in his swing he looked coldly at him seeing this his mom spoke up "it's not Colton's fault" he turns to look at his mom "I can see it in you're eyes son, he is just a innocent baby that is made with love" Dalton nods his head then starts to walk away, "I'll be moving in with you so I can help with Colton" hearing this Dalton stops walking his mom walks up to him "you also need my help I can tell you are hurting on the inside" a tear escaped from his eye he nods his head and walks away.
His mom sigh's "Dalton and Colton is going to need a lot of love" she looks at her grandson and her heart melts "he won't even get to know his mom he was just a day old when she passed away and from the looks of it he isn't going to get much love from his dad either," her heart couldn't help but ache when she thought about it.
In his room Dalton has a picture of his wife in his hand he can't help but stroke her face "why did you leave me? We was supposed raise our kids and grow old together then die at the same time, we had this planned out but you left so early" he couldn't help but say it out loud. He put her picture to his heart as the tears rolled down his cheeks.
Dalton is a lawyer and he has his own firm his assistant Emma is delighted to hear that his wife had passed away she has been secretly in love with him for 4 years "now my chance is here" she thought to herself as she sits behind her desk with a smile on her face, "Dalton I'll never let another woman get close to you again unless it's me" she internally told him as she looks at their picture that they had taken together after they won their first case.
A YEAR LATER
standing at his wife's grave he cant help but still feel the pain in his heart "today makes one year that you have been gone and it still hurts as bad the day it happened" he said as he stared at his wife's picture on her tomb stone, "mom moved is with me to help with Colton, he has grew so much in a year he is walking and say's words and he looks so much like you" tears rolled down his cheeks "I can't be the dad that he needs me to be I blame him for you're death. I can't help but think if it wasn't for his birth you would still be here with me."
he feels guilty that he can't give Colton the love that he needs from him but he can't RING RING hearing his phone ringing snaps him out of his thought's, he looks at the caller ID "what is it Steve?" hearing this Steve knows that Dalton is at his wife's grave "come out for some drinks it's my treat tonight" Dalton thinks about it as he looks at his wife's grave "that sounds like a good idea I want to numb this pain" he thought to himself, "ok send me you're location."
Dalton and Steve have been best friends since childhood, Steve knew that today makes the 1 year anniversary of Kate's death, Steve has been with them since their relationship started at first his didn't like Kate because he thought Dalton deserved better then her but as he got to know her he knew that she is the one for Dalton, seeing his friend grieve over Kate breaks his heart.
seeing Dalton walk over to the table in slow and steady steps Steve frowns when he see's grass stains on Dalton's pants where the knee's are "he must have been kneeling at Kate's grave" Steve said to himself, after he ordered his drink Steve looks at him "how's you're mom?" taking a sip of his drink Dalton said "she's doing good" Steve nods "how about Colton?" Dalton shrugs his shoulders "his just a baby he does baby things," hearing this Steve internally sigh's "not only did Colton loose his mom he also lost his dad, I remember how happy Dalton was when he told me that he is expecting a son it was written all over his face but now nothing shows on Dalton's face when he talks about Colton."
"have you thought about getting back out there? you're still young you need someone by you're side" then Steve smirks "how about Emma? she's been by you're side for years and she knows you and Colton well," seeing the look on Dalton's face Steve stopped talking "I don't want other women I want my Kate back unless she can come back from the dead that will be the only woman by my side" Steve sigh's to himself "maybe a year isn't enough time to get over it" he thought to himself.
helping a drunken Dalton into his house Steve see's his mom with a worried look on her face he looks at her and smile's then helps Dalton up to his room to lay down, helping him on the bed Dalton rolls over and grabs a pillow from Kate's side of the bed and he snuggled it against him "Kate where did you go? why did you leave me for a year?" he mumbled, hearing this Steve's heart aches for his friend. after making sure Dalton is asleep he went downstairs and his mom is waiting for him "he was at Kate's grave today?" Steve nods his head she sigh's then looks upstairs at Dalton's bedroom door "my poor Dalton I don't think he will ever get over this he hasn't been the same since Kate passed" Steve hugs her "maybe he needs to grieve some more after all they was made for each other" his mom nods her head "I know and my baby boy Colton is proof of that" thinking of Dalton's and Colton's relationship she couldn't help but feel her heart aching "my poor Colton."
