Chapter 1: crash and sludge

Ring ring went the alarm. For what felt like the billionth time this week, Savanna had to wake up for school.

“here we go again” she sighed

She hoped out bed, took a shower, put on her uniform and ate breakfast then headed off to school.

The weather was cloudy but windy. Savanna’s black hair blew gently. As she stood waiting for her bus somebody with a spring in his step gleefuly walked up towards savanna

“hey gloomy girl how’s it going?” the boy said..

“i’m not gloomy. Knock it off Takun. And stop calling me gloomy, why does everyone say that?” Savanna replied

Takun was Savanna’s best friend. They’d been together for around 3 years at this point. He was a relatively short zimbabwean kid with a scar on his cheek. He was always happy, esoecially around Savanna

“everyone says that because you’ve just got that face y’know”

“what is that supposed to mean?” Savanna snarked

Before takun could reply the bus arrived and the two hopped one, sitting down next to eachother .

Savanna always enjoyed the view as the bus drove around town picking people up. It was calming for her and most of the time this made her fall asleep on the bus, takun having to wake her up.

And as usual, Savanna had fallen asleep and as usual takun would wake her up right before the bus arrived at school. However this time, takun had woken her up around ten minutes before they even arrived to the school.

“savanna look, look! You gotta see this!” he shouted

“what’s so important that you had to wake me up over?” she snapped back

“just look!”

Savanna did as Takun said and looked as to where he was pointing. All the other students on the bus looked as well. At the direction everyone was looking was between a giant battle between a local hero and the regular bad guy.

In this world were people with supernatural abilities to various circumstances. One of the most frequent being radiation. Around 10 years ago an accident happened releasing strange chemicals into the air. These chemicals weren’t particuarlly harmful but gave some people weird mutations like them being able to transform into animals, super strength and all those other sterotypical superpowers. Within 5 months these chemicals had disappeared but those infected continued to spread it. And as such, those with these abilities either lived a normal life, used these abilities for malicous purposes or used their abilities to stop those who use their abilities maliciously. To sum it up, you got normal people with abilities, ‘villains’ and ‘heroes’.

The fight Savanna, Takun and the other students were witnessing was hero fighting a huge tiger-person. As this hero was desperatly trying to tie down this tiger-person they were getting slammed into buildings left and right, dropping street lamps, cars and bricks everywhere. The bus driver was trying to escape this monstrous situation when the tiger-person went crashing right into the bus of students, sending the bus flying into a nearby research laboratory, creating an explosion.

Savanna was knocked unconsious as Takun lifted her up onto his back. Many students were knocked out, burnt and bleeding but somehow none had died on impact with the tiger-person though many were so injured that if they didn’t receive help, they would die.

Savanna regains conscious on takuns shoulders. His forehead has blooding and he had light burns on him. The room the bus had crashed into has on fire. The room contained lots of strange animals in glass cages, some having escaped.

“what happened?” savanna asked.

“villian crashed into the bus. Im getting us out of here.” takun replied

“what about everyone else? Are the dead?”

“nope. Some of the people have already escaped. But with all this fore and smoke its kind of hard to.”

The two could feel the loud rumbling of something big coming towards them. Scream of shrieks and terror of other students still in the building could be heard.

“what’s that?” savanna aksed

“whatever it is we’re not sticking around to find out.” takun replied. He began to sprint but due to the damage he received he was slow. Too slow

The rumbling grew closer as takun desperatly tried to run. But he was too late. The tiger-person came crashing in, running into the two of them and destroying everything in the room they were in. The hero that was fighting this tiger-person earlier was riding a top of him.

Takun was knocked to the ground, his arm completely twisted as well as both his legs. Savanna was on the ground, blood everywhere. The impact of the crash had killed her, leaving a gaping slash on her back.

The glass that was containg those weird animals had shattered. Letting all of them free. One them was nothing but weird red and yellow sludge. It was alive and was creeping towards Savanna corpse.

It climbed into her wound. Meanwhile the hero had managed to knock out the tiger person by crushing it with debris. When he saw the destruction, death and chaos this monster had created all he could was help those still alive. He knew he would definetnyl get blamed for all of this so he should at least help as many people as he could.

He checked the vitals of takun, still there but barley. Then he checked savanna, nothing. He picked up takun and a few others and brought them out of the building in rapid session.
