Prologue
He looked terrified. Paralyzed. Fearful. There she stood in the doorway, tears trickling down her face and anger swelling within her. All his plans were on the table that was standing between the two of them. She’s not supposed to be here, he thought, she was never supposed to know.
“I knew you were up to something,” she said, almost choking on her words, whether with sadness or anger, her feelings were apparent. “But I never thought you would seek revenge, and even think about the idea of harming anyone!”
“But his death- he”
“What about it?? He died, and you can’t do anything about it! I always wondered why you become so mean, why you resented everyone. Your heart is just so sought on stupid revenge!”
“You weren’t there!!” He shouted quietly. “You – weren’t there.” His voice softened, eyes welling with tears. “You didn’t wake up one night to see your mother, crying. You hadn’t spent years with him, growing a strong relationship. I did.”
“That doesn’t mean I don’t miss him!”
“But you don’t miss him enough. “ silence followed.
“But this is going too far, you need to stop. Let go –“
“I’ve tried!” He breathed. “I’ve tried for years. I need this.”
With that, the girl went silent.
“I won’t try to stop you,” she said, “I won’t tell anyone, but you need to promise me you won’t hurt anyone.”
“I can’t promise, but I’ll try.”
