Book 1: Prologue
I walked along the street, whistling a merry little tune to myself; and then I began to create words to go along with the tune.
🎵Lovely day! What could go wrong?
All is well!, and I’m singing a song!
I wish that every day could be like this day!
Not a thing could take my bright spirit away!🎵
Yes, indeed; things were just going so splendidly! Woohoo!
Suddenly!, my girlfriend came up and said, “Hey, Sunny! Nice song!”
“Thanks, Gayle!” I said, before taking her hand and planting a quick kiss on her lips!
She beamed in delight, and the two of us skipped down the sidewalk while holding hands.
Suddenly!, we heard a voice coming from below us that said, “Your happiness is not welcome in this world of doom and gloom! I’ll have to fix things a bit…” and, suddenly!, we were grabbed by hands that were coming out of the sewer; and we were pulled down into there!
It smelled pretty bad, and we couldn’t see who it was that had grabbed us.
“You stink!, and in more ways than one!” Gayle raged, “Why’d ya have to rain on our parade like this?”
“Oh,” the voice replied ominously, “the “rain” has only begun, I’m afraid. You two need to learn how bad life is! By the time you return to the surface (if you return, that is… Muahahahahahahaha!), you will be even more gloomy and cheerless than I am!”
“Or,” I countered, “perhaps we’ll convince you to see the good side of life!, and you’ll become joyous like us!” to which the voice responded that, “That won’t be happening, especially since it’ll be all of my servants who torment you while I leave for a few days to go do battle with a rainbow. Oh, but I do hate rainbows! Anyway, it’s time for me to leave. I look forward to finding out how you two are doing after spending a few days in my sewer of horrors! Muahahahahahahahahahaha!…”
