Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1
ROWAN
“You need to talk to him, Ro… he needs to know before you leave tomorrow…” my best friend Claudia told me as she held my hand and wiped the tears that fell.
“I’m so scared Dia… we haven’t spoken in weeks… and now this, he’s going to hate me...” I sobbed in her arms.
I heard her sigh before she pushed me out of her arms. “Where are you going?” I asked her as she pulled my jacket off the chair and helped me into it.
“We are not going to sit here anymore. I am taking you to see him and you are going to tell him.”
“Why?”
“Because I hate that you’re here crying your eyes out when he is meant to be your boyfriend! If he loves you then he would be here right now.” She snapped, pulling on her jacket and taking my hand before we rushed out the door towards her car. “I know you’re scared and that you are leaving tomorrow… but I will be there every step of the way when I leave in a few weeks.” She squeezed my hand before I nodded my head.
As she started the car, my mind was going back to what happened over the past two months. My dad had gotten a job offer and when he spoke to me about it, I told him that he should take it but that was before I knew he had to move to the UK. At first, I didn’t want to go but when I told Beau about it, we ended up in a huge fight and he left me standing in the car park alone. We haven’t spoken to each other in weeks...
Claudia brought me out of the faze I was in when she squeezed my hand. I smiled at her but she knew it was fake.
I looked out the window as we came closer to his house. Cars were parked everywhere and people lingered in the street. I frowned slightly wondering what was going on. “He’s having a party..?” I mumbled to myself. When Claudia parked the car, I followed her out of the car and towards the house. Beer bottles and empty cans of alcohol were everywhere in the front yard.
“Rowan? Wh… what are you doing here?” I heard George, one of Beau’s best friends yell over the music when he saw me walk inside the house. He held a beer bottle in his hand that was only half full. I noticed that he was looking everywhere around us like he was looking for someone and that was when I knew something was up.
“Where is Beau?” Claudia asked him, George’s eyes became wide for a second before he shook his head.
“I...I don’t know.” I bit my lip and turned away from Claudia and George as I pushed my way through the crowd of teens and young adults who were too busy partying. When I walked into the kitchen I saw Beau’s twin brother, Brody, pouring a drink.
“Row! What’s up, girl?” He smiled at me as he placed the bottle down.
“Where is Beau?”
“If he’s not down here, check upstairs.” I gave him a nod and made my way upstairs. Music was the only thing I could hear but something in my stomach was making me feel sick. I made it to Beau’s bedroom door and when I opened it, I had to hold my hand over my mouth so I didn’t throw up. I felt someone pull me away and close the door. When I looked up I saw George and Claudia standing in front of me.
“Ro it’s not what…”
George’s head swung to the right after I had punched him. He stumbled into the wall next to him as blood rushed down from his nose and lip and before he could say anything I rushed downstairs with Claudia running after me calling my name.
“I don’t want to be here anymore… Please take me home.” I told her when we both got to the car. When we were both inside the car, I just kept my eyes down as I picked at the skin around my fingernails.
BEAU’S POV.
“Get the fuck up!” I heard someone yell as they shook the bed. I groaned and placed my hand to my head, it felt like my head was splitting into two. I opened one of my eyes, and my twin brother and best friend standing over me.
“What?” I groaned but I heard my brother scuff.
“Get the fuck up. You fucked up big time.” Brody said with a growl.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” I looked over to the other side of the bed and saw that it was seven in the morning. I groaned once again.
“Of course, you wouldn’t remember. Do you remember that your girlfriend was here last night?” He asked me as I looked back at the two standing by my bed. I narrowly looked at them and noticed that George had a bandage on his nose with a dark bruise under his eye. I didn’t want to think about Rowan right now. I was still pissed off at her for agreeing to go with her dad to the UK. We had things planned…
Our life was planned out…
“What about her?” I asked through my teeth.
“She saw you last night.”
“What?”
“She came here last night looking for your damn ass. She saw you and Shanna. Before I could say anything she punched me in the face.” George said to me.
“As I said, you fucked up big time,” Brody said. I stared at them in shock before I climbed out of bed and pulled on my jeans, a shirt and shoes. “If you are going to go after her, there is no point.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” I asked them before I could step out of my bedroom.
“She’s gone,” George said to me. “Claudia said that Rowan is leaving today and that her flight is at noon.” I felt my heart stop. I felt like my whole world had crashed around me and that I could barely breathe. I grabbed my car keys off the counter and rushed outside.
I rushed through the entrance and over to the screens that had the flight times on them. I looked for the flight that was heading to the UK. Only one was showing, so I quickly took off towards the right boarding dock. Once I got there I took a moment to catch my breath but I heard the speaker over me calling the last call for plane 784 to the UK.
I looked around and saw her and her father handing over their boarding passes. “Row!” I called out as I rushed over towards her. “Rowan!” Her head snapped over her shoulder. Her eyes were wide but red and puffy. She looked towards her father and he gave her a quick nod before stepping out of the way for other people to board. She placed her bag beside him and slowly walked over to me.
“Baby, please…”
I felt a sting in my left cheek as my head swung to the side. “How could you!?” She screamed as I turned my face to look at her. “How could you!?” She pushed me away, I tried to step towards her and touch her but she stepped back and shook her head.
“I saw you and her, Beau. I loved you… but you broke my heart. I’m sorry I wasted your time…” She shook her head and wiped her tears away before turning around and walking towards her father. I called out her name but she ignored me and followed her father through the entrance of the plane. I felt my tears drop down my cheeks as I watched her leave without even looking back. It broke my heart.
I don’t know how long I was standing there, but I couldn’t see the plane outside the big glass windows anymore.
Once I was finally back in the car, I slammed my fist into the back passenger window until it smashed and I had glass in my hand. I drove all the way home with my hand bleeding. Did I feel it? No.
When I got home, I saw Brody and George sitting in the living room. I ignored them when they called out my name. I couldn’t handle dealing with them right now. I grabbed the bottle of whiskey from the counter that was leftover from the party and went up to my room. I drank my sorrows away.
I was angry with myself and I was sad that she had left. I knew I never deserved her. I knew I had broken her heart. I knew I could never forget what I had done.
It was the last day that I showed any real emotion.
