The Unswitched

School was almost out for summer. And this Friday is Abby's thirteenth birthday.

“Abby, it's time to come down for breakfast!” Yelled Mum from down stairs.

“Okay, I’ll be down in a minute.” Replied Abby from upstairs.

Mum went back to the kitchen to put breakfast on their plates.

Czar, Abby's little brother, came down the stairs yelling “Mumma, I’m hungry!!”

Czar came into the kitchen around the corner of the stairs.

“Okay just hold on Brother Bear, I'm putting it on you guys plates. Alright all done, it's french toast, with bacon and eggs for breakfast.” Mum announced.

Abby starts to come down the stairs and then on the fourth step down the stairs. She tripped over one of Czar's little snake toys. Abby starts getting mad and her face turns red as she continues falling down the stairs. Mum hears the noise and runs from the kitchen to where the stairs end. Then looks at Abby and she thinks she can’t stop her from falling. And so Abby keeps falling, thinking that she's going to destroy her brother after this.

Her face keeps getting redder and redder by the second. Then Abby gets a good grip on the railing of the stairs. catches herself and stops herself from falling.

“Oh my goodness, are you okay, Honey??” Mum asks worried that she might be hurt from the wooded stairs. Mum runs up the two last steps from the floor.

Abby would not answer her Mum, she was too angry to answer.

“Abby? Answer me now.. Abby Adaline?!” Mum is starting to get mad and more worried.

Mum starts to worry and thinks to herself that maybe she got a concussion?. Abby finally stops and calms herself.

“Yes, I’m fine. I just tripped over one of Czar’s dumb toy snakes. I’ll be alright, can you guys leave me alone now?” Abby answered back with a grin.

“Okay whatever, you actually had me worried that you were seriously hurt.” Mum said with a little thankfulness and attitude in her voice.

Czar in the background of their conversation saying “She said she's not hurt, and wants to be left alone. Can we get back to me getting my food please!! I’m starving!!!” Czar said, getting impatient.

“Hold on, I was just making sure she is okay after falling down the stairs. Now give me a minute.” Mum replided back to Czar standing in the kitchen.

Czar groaned and rolled his eyes then sat back down in his chair. He started tapping the kitchen table with his fingers. Abby and Mum get off of the floor of the stairs .

“What are we having for breakfast?” Abby asked, hearing her own stomach growl, and put her hand over it.

“ French toast with bacon and eggs.” Mum answered back.

“Eww.” Abby said sarcastically, and had a full attitude.

Abby and Mum went to the kitchen. Abby sat at one of the chairs on the other end of the table away from Czar, giving him a death stare. Mum went behind the counter.

“Here you go, need any syrup or ketchup for your eggs and french toast?” Mum asked the both of them.

“Yes, pass me the syrup.” Abby said.

“Please?” Mom gave her a look and signed.

Czar and Abby glared at each other, he's all happy now that he has food. Her on the other hand was still grumpy from falling down the stairs. She kept giving him the death stare.

“ I’ll take some of both but can you pour it for me please, Mumma.” Czar asked kindly.

“ No, you're a big boy, you can do it. Just be careful not to get the syrup everywhere, it’ll get sticky.” Mum said.

“Fine, I guess.” Czar said, while rolling his eyes.

Czar started to put ketchup on his eggs and syrup on his french toast. They ate their breakfast quickly before the bus got to their house.

“ Done!” Czar and Abby said at the same time.

Abby groaned and slid out of her chair.

“No, I'm done first!” Czar said, complaining.

“Whatever, I don’t care!” Abby snapped back.

“Guess what.. I never asked!!” Czar snapped right back towards Abby.

Czar grabbed his green backpack that had little spiders and snakes printed on it. And headed out the front door. Abby grabbed her blue backpack that had pink, purple, and white lines on it. Then heading outside, waiting at the bus stop for it to arrive. Keeping her distance from Czar. Their bus came up around the corner and stopped at their house. Then the bus door opened “ You guys coming or no!” Yelled the cranky bus driver named Becky. Czar and Abby froze just looking at Mrs. cranky Becky. Czar was trying not to laugh at her hair. It was in a tight bun on the toppest part of her head. And her hair was just dyed lime green and orange two days ago. Their her favorite colors.

“You go first!!” Czar said to Abby.

“Why me first! You should, you know what they say, the youngest goes first…” Abby said back to Czar with a really unhappy smile.

Abby looked away from Czar then at the ground, then looked up at the sky, then finally looked back at Czar. “Ugh, FINE!! I’ll go first!” Abby said, starting to laugh madly. “Okay that was my plan in the first place.” Czar said under his breath.

Abby stepped on the stairs to the bus and the bus driver Ms. Becky stopped her. “Excuse me, but what do you say to your bus driver after they pick you up every morning and drop you off every afternoon?” Ms. Cranky Becky said with a rude manner. “ Um, thanks?,” Abby paused to see if she got the answer right on Becky's face. “Um, Thanks Ms. Becky for what you do for us.” Abby said with a little smile even though she hates Becky with a strong passion.

Czar started to step up the bus stairs but Becky didn’t stop him; she thought he was too cute to stop and ask questions. So Czar just went to the back of the bus past where Abby was sitting. Then sat down at the last seat with his friend Cody from school.

“Hey whatta doing?” Czar asked Cody. Cody was the same age as Czar and was reading a book called “ Spiders all around the world.” “Nothing, just reading the book about spiders that I got from Mrs. Layman.” Cody replied, yawning. “Cool!” Czar said all happy to see all his friends at school.

Abby sat with her friends, Kaylynn on the left side then Olivier and Jackson on the other side of the bus. Olivier and Jackson were just whispering in each others ears when Abby sat down with Kaylynn. Like they were hiding something. And they were talking about her, they were saying that On Abby's pants was a dinosaur that Czar drew on with a sharpie on the left back pocket. And on the right back pocket it said, “love Czar” with a little heart next to it.

“What is it? Why are you guys laughing??” Abby started to question them. “It just,” Jackson started to say but got interrupted by Olivier. “Um it’s it’s, Nothing, it was just nothing. We were just thinking about what my Mum said this morning to make me smile today.” Olivier lied right to her face. Trying not to embarrass her in front of everyone on the bus looking at her when she was getting on the bus and sitting down next to Kaylynn. For the rest of the bus ride Abby and Oliver kept making Kaylynn and Jackson laugh so hard, almost making themselves pee in their pants. And then they arrived at the school…
