Peace

First, there was nothing.

But then I feel it. As if waking up for the first time. I'm looking around, I know I’m moving but there's nothing but darkness. As I concentrate, there are many tiny lights appearing all around me. But it’s still dark.

What are they?

"Stars." Someone whispers. The voice sounds warm.

Stars. It feels right, but I don't know how. I can't seem to ever remember seeing them before but at the same time, I do.

Gazing around at the tiny lights - the stars, I'm not thinking about anything. There is no thought. There is only a feeling. A feeling that is filling my whole being.

Peace.

It's like a complete silence. And I love it.

I’m not thinking about anything. I’m just watching the stars. Time non existent. Then a low, far away hum is penetrating and ruining the silence. But I don't know what it is.

What could it be? I don’t like it.

"Noise." The hush voice comes again. It's been a long time since I heard it last. It's seems so, familiar?

I try to tune out the noise. Concentrating on the silence. The calm. The peace.

It works for a while. Until it doesn't, but this time it’s something new. A new noise that sends cold air down my being.

"Screams." The voice comes again. My peace is becoming smaller as these screams are ruining the silence. I try to ignore it. But it isn't working. My curiosity and something else I can’t name makes me look further into the darkness, past the stars.

I’m floating. And the further I go, the louder the screams become. And I'm starting to feel something I can't remember to ever have felt, and yet, it feels a part of me.

Fear.
