Chapter 1
Her breaths came out in ragged gasps as she hurried through the dimly lit alleyway. Stealthily, she tried to shake off the strange men who had been chasing after her ever since she entered the city.
Despite running for over an hour, they were still not too far behind her, and panic gripped her mind.
'Who are they? What do they want? How are they able to keep up?' Her thoughts raced as she slowed her pace, attempting to catch a breath.
Leaning over, hands on her knees, only her heavy breathing echoed in the narrow lane. Gradually, the stitch that had been nagging at her side, started to fade.
Straightening up, she cautiously glanced behind her and relief washed over her; no one was in sight. A sigh escaped her lips as she continued down the alley, now walking.
"Did you see where she went?" A man's voice echoed nearby, her head whipped up and she quickly hid behind a trash can.
"I can smell her. Damn it, Aros, she smells heavenly," A different voice said, causing her to scrunch her face up in disgust. 'They can smell me? What the fuck is that supposed to mean.'
As they walked past the alley, she took a step out from behind the tin can. she panicked as the lid fell, slamming on the ground.
"Did you hear that? Up there," the men shouted, drawing closer. Her eyes met one of them, and fear propelled her to sprint once more.
The sounds of their footsteps grew closer, as she rounded the corner from the alley, her body crashed into someone, sending her flying to the ground.
A small groan slipped past her lips as the palm of her hands grazed the concrete. Despite the pain in her hands, she quickly pushed herself up, not even looking at who she bumped into.
Pushing past the person, she tried to take off running again, but her wrist was grabbed causing her to gasp out in shock.
Trying to pull away from his grasp, his grip only tightened causing her to whimper out in pain. "You're hurting me, let go" she whined, finally looking up to meet his eyes.
His dark brown eyes met her forest green eyes, she froze as she saw how handsome he was. She had never seen anyone like him, it was as if he was taken straight out of a romance book.
Her breath hitched as he smiled down at her, a small dimple forming on his right cheek. "Are you okay?" He asked, his voice was deep and hoarse.
"Around here" The shouts echoed from the alley causing her to snap out of her trance. Panic arose in her again and she tried to pull away.
"Please, I have to go they're coming!" She cried out, but he wasn't letting go. He continued to stare at her, his eyes never leaving her green ones.
"Don't worry, I won't let them take you" he reassured, his hand coming up towards her face. He cupped her cheek and his thumb caressed the bruise on her cheekbone.
"There she is" the man who was after her spat, causing her to turn to face him. Tears had started to fall down her face, causing her cheeks to look slightly puffy. She stared at the group of men, scared half to death
"Is there a problem here?" Said the man, who still held onto her wrist. She missed the look that he had sent the group of men.
"No sir, we'll be on our way" The bald man grinned, as the group disappeared back into the alley.
Her gaze shifted back to him and he was already staring at her. "What's your name?" She asked, her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Kingston" he muttered, dragging her towards a black van. She looked around the city, it truly was beautiful at night. The danger of it surely did ruin the beauty of it.
"Where are we going?" She asked, staring up at the stranger who saved her. He opened the door for her and shoved her in the van but she didn't think anything of it. He did save her after all.
"I'm taking you somewhere safe" he replied, walking around to the driver's side and getting in. As they drove they sat in silence.
"Do you need a drink?" He asked breaking the silence, She nodded her head. He sucked his teeth and opened the glove compartment. He took out a bottle of water and handed it to her.
"It's already been opened" she pouted, but took it from his hands. He nodded, his eyes never leaving the road. "I was gonna take a drink of it earlier but decided not to. I only bought it today don't worry. I haven't touched it."
She believed him, opening the cap she took a sip of the drink and scrunched her face off at the weird taste. "This taste funny" she muttered, closing the cap.
Kingston quickly took the bottle from her, shoving it back in the compartment before pulling over to the side of the road. "They can't wait to see you" he watched as her eyes fluttered open and closed.
"I feel funny Kingston" she slurred, her head lulling to the side as her eyes grew heavy. Kingston let out a hum before jumping out of the van.
Walking around to her side, he threw open her door and took her out. She felt herself being thrown over his shoulders and put into the back of the van. The last thing she saw was ropes being tied around her wrists and ankles before everything went black.
