Summary

The realtor called it a classic farmhouse—quaint and cozy. But on my first night, I awoke to strange whispers. I told myself it was just the wind. If only I had listened more closely. The hushed voices seemed to come from within the walls. As I lay in unease, I strained to understand the words. It would be many restless nights before I uncovered their sinister secrets. The truth about what lingered in the shadows would chill me to my core. Looking back, I wish I had trusted my instincts that first night. A darkness had awakened inside the house.

Chapter 1

Today's the day I finally get to move into my new home. I've been waiting months for this, slowly fixing up the beautiful old farmhouse I bought in the quiet countryside. Sure, the place looked a little rundown when I got there, but I saw its potential right away. With its charming country charm and spacious attic, it's my dream home.

The drive up the gravel road filled me with eager anticipation. But when I stepped out of the car, I felt an unexpected shiver run down my spine. As I gazed up at the house, the attic window seemed to stare back like a dark, unblinking eye, strangely. It must just be nerves about moving somewhere new.

I did my best to shrug off the unease as I unpacked boxes and got settled in the cozy living room. Before I knew it, night had fallen. Exhausted from the move, I crawled gratefully into bed in the master bedroom. As I drifted off, the old house creaked and settled around me.

Sometime later, I jolted awake, my heart pounding. What was that sound? Laying in the dark, I strained my ears. Soft whispers drifted through the air, so faint that I couldn't make out any words. I convinced myself that it must be the wind outside. But the hushed voices seemed to come from within the very walls.

I pulled the blankets tighter around myself, a chill running through me. The whispers continued, barely audible in the dead of night. The unfamiliar sounds in this new place left me unsettled and anxious. Eventually exhaustion overtook me again, and I fell into a troubled sleep. But I could still hear the whispers as I finally dozed off.
