Don’t ‘Joke’ with Scarlett
"t was never a secret, at least not to Scarlet Montgomery, that she is the bastard child of the Clown, otherwise known as the Joker. He is a man that she had never met, only knew from his unsavory reputation for criminal activities and sadistic enjoyment of meting out violence. She thinks of her father often, though she dare not approach him, wondering if his giggling madness resides somewhere inside herself. Determined to prove her normalcy, if only to herself, Scarlet accepts a job as a bartender at The Cauldron, a local drinking establishment where both Gotham’s elite and underworld figures mingle. On her very first day of the job, a bouncer named Rex is murdered by an unknown assailant. When Scarlet sets for home, she is kicked and beaten into unconsciousness, again by unknown assailants. After a few days in the hospital, Scarlet recovers from the assault. She dyes her hair the same unholy green as her father and then requests a leave of absence from her former boss at the Cauldron “Why?” Henry asks. Scarlet is not completely sure. She only knows that her and Rex’s assailants must be punished, and that perhaps a little bit of madness is not a bad thing at all. Wow, I had a lot of fun reading this story. I love Batman Lore. In fact I’m working on my own version of Catwoman right now. But seeing Rita Rose’s interpretation of Gotham inspired me to expand on that world in the same creative way she has done. I highly recommend ‘Embracing the Darkness’, and who knows? Maybe her next novel will be about Harley Quinn. I’d enjoy reading that as well. "
