I sat in the doctor's office once again as they looked over my prosthetic leg and checked my ears. I couldn't hear anything and I had never been able to. I saw my parents crying and hugging each other and the doctor was saying something to them. I didn't know what they were talking about so I waited until they were done and mom patted me on the shoulder. I followed them out to the car and they buckled me in the back seat. It was quite a long drive and when we stopped there was a huge boat in front of us. I was amazed at the size of it and all the people loading on board. My parents lead me onto the ship and we watched the water as we sailed off. It seemed to take forever for is to reach a stop, but when we did we were on a beautiful beach with mountains in the background and lots of trees. They lead me off the ship and while everyone else went one way they took me off to the woods. My father knelt in front of me as my mother cried. He used his hands to try and tell me that we were playing hide and seek and that I had to find a really good spot. I had picked up a few signals from them but didn't understand most of the time. I nodded to show I understood and ran off to find my hiding place. I found a really big tree and decided to hide behind that, it wasn't too far away but they'll never find me here.

I don't know how long I have been hiding but it was getting dark and I was very hungry. I made my way back to the beach and saw that everyone was gone and the ship was nowhere in sight. I sat down and curled my knees to my chest, sobbing. Where did my parents go? When would they be back? I waited and waited and they were still nowhere to be seen, but a young boy approached me and tried to speak to me. I pointed to my ears and he frowned. He used his hand to gesture for me to follow him and since I was alone and he looked about my age I went with him. We walked for quite a while until we reached a village of some sort with lots of houses and a large house in the middle. We went to the large house and he lead me inside, getting several strange looks from the men around the place. We walked up some stairs and in to a large room, where a man sat behind a large wooden desk. He looked at me and then looked at the boy, they were talking but I had no idea what he was saying. The man approached me and kneeled in front of me, taking my small hands in his. He tried to speak slowly to me but I shook my head. He frowned and grabbed some paper, trying to show me what he had written there but I shook my head again. So he used his hands to try and talk to me, I could understand bits and pieces of it "parents" was one word. "Gone" I tried to signal with my hands. He frowned again "teach speak" was all I caught of the next part and I smiled and nodded yes. He smiled back and continued using his hands slowly "stay, us" I frowned, did they want me to stay with them? I nodded and the little boy seemed happy as well. "Go room" I nodded and the man and boy walked with me to a door, which they opened to reveal a lovely room, much nicer than I had at home. I pointed to myself and the man nodded, meaning this was going to be mine? I jumped onto the bed and bounced a bit, this was so cool! The man and the boy talked some more but I couldn't hear any of it so I looked around my new space. Then the man approached me again "teach name" he tried to signal and I nodded. "Sam" he pointed at the boy, "Sven" he pointed at himself. "Lila" I pointed at myself and he smiled at me. He seemed happy I was here and now he knew my name which was good. I wished I could communicate better with them. Then a woman appeared and walked towards us. She talked to the man while the boy sat beside me and tried to talk to me. The woman looked upset but she knelt in front of me and tried to speak to me. I shook my head no and pointed at my ears. She frowned and tried to signal her name too "Eve" she pointed at herself and I nodded and waved. She clapped her hands and seemed happy. "Hurt?" She questioned and I shook my head no. But I also lifted my pant leg to show my prosthetic and they all looked at it in amazement. "Sore?" The man asked me and I shook my head no. I had no idea what they were going to do next but it was nice to be with other people again. I missed my parents and I still wondered where they had went. How long was I going to be here? The man seemed to notice I was upset and called to someone. I briefly saw a lady but she was gone just as fast. It wasn't long before someone else returned with some sort of plate that smelled delicious. They passed me the plate and I smiled, I was so hungry and the food looked so good. I nodded in thanks and started eating it. It was unlike anything I had ever tasted and I was definitely going to finish the whole plate. I smiled and passed the plate back to the man who passed it to someone else to get rid of. The man, woman, and boy seemed to talk for a long time after that and I just sat there, confused
