Life and Death
“Have a beautiful life, till death finds you.” I told the seedling who was just born. A touch of mine can do wonders, making things alive. I thought I was a beautiful thing, giving everyone an opportunity. Dead ones can’t really do anything, can they? But that day humans were tired of me. They were tired of my existence, wanting to end me the first chance they got. People had started liking my enemy more. They befriended death because it was an escape from me.
I left the newly born seedling to its yet-to-be-explored life, as raindrops fell and the night grew darker. A sudden shock took over me as my eyes found their way to a shadow-like figure. His hood was covering his head but I could see the tears dripping from his eyes in the water on the ground.
“Reaper?” My confused voice echoed through the night. I felt as if I shouldn’t be seeing him but it also felt right to be there.
His head tilted towards me slightly but no sound could be heard from Death. I waited a few minutes then walked towards him. I settled myself beside him on the wet ground. This was a rare moment. It’s not quite usual to see Life and Death sitting together. I was convinced, he would not say anything to me, taking into consideration our everlasting fight, but I heard him speak and it startled me.
“I am not used to people being happy when I take their soul away.”
His eyes were still fixed on the ground but I could see more tears gathering in his eyes. I kept staring at him, unbelievably. I was watching Death cry.
My thoughts on the matter were quite similar too, though. It was quite unusual and depressing to see people bored with life. I was full of hope once.
I placed my hand over his back to comfort him and he looked into my eyes for the first time. I could see my end in those bright red eyes of him. But I kept looking, looking deep into his tear-filled eyes. My hand wiped the tears off of his face as he moved in closer, taking the warmth of my hand. His cold body was unlike mine and for the first time in a long time, I felt as if I had made someone hopeful and happy. A comforting warm sensation filled him as Life touched Death for the first time.
