I felt a heavy gaze follow me throughout the crowd causing me to turn around and scan the faces of the millions of people around me. After a while I had thought I was mistaken until my gaze landed on a familiar figure just a few feet from me. Nothing could ever prevent me from recognizing the man that stood there in shock.
“Leana?”
He stood still as he stared at me with an emotion I couldn’t decipher, because it was gone as soon as it came. Gripping the coffee cup in my hand tightly, I stared back into the cold eyes that were once so familiar to me. The very set of eyes that would hold me captive and make me weak to the knees with just a glance my way. A slight pain coursed throughout my body the more I realized it wasn’t just a dream and that he was really there, just a few feet from me. We stood still for a while just gazing at each other from a distance. Time seeming to pass by in a blur making it seem as if it were just the two of us.
For a moment it looked as if he wanted to say something. Yet, before either of our emotions could get the best of us, a young model-like woman walked up to him, wrapping her slender arms around his as she kissed his lips with a bright smile. The very lips that I once craved as I cried in sorrow.
He stiffened a little, not once taking his gaze from me despite the beautiful woman next to him. The sudden urge to run up and embrace him came over me yet, the arms wrapping themselves around my waist snapped me out of the trance he held me in.
“Sorry for making you wait, mi amore, are you ready to go now?”
My husband says, as he hugs me tightly while planting a soft kiss upon my forehead. Snapping my gaze from the man who stared at me with indescribable emotions in his eyes, I smiled and whispered out a soft ‘yes’. Taking one last look towards the man who stood still just only a few feet from me I felt a sense of relief coming over me as I found myself whispering the words I never thought I would with a smile before disappearing within the crowd once more. I’m happy.
“Good-bye, my almost lover.”
