Chapter 1

(Year: 1986, 19 august)

Alex’s POV

I drove my car too a field that was green and had the view that felt like heaven and freedom.

I was in tears as well. Life hasn’t been great after I lost my fiancés to a car accident.. Nick and Karl...; Was their name...

I got to the field. As I slammed the car Door while holding a pack of cigarettes and a small cassettes of beer in bottles.

I haven’t had a smoke in years... I was gonna stay in the field until I can’t anymore.

The sun was tired and hung on to the last. Until it was gonna set; Soon.

I walked down the grassy field and found a place to sit. Down the hill of field I’m sitting in; had flowers that were in yellow and blue.. I wanted to be there to Enjoy the view and hopefully forget everything.

I wanted to get drunk tonight... Drink away my feelings. I can gamble... So, gamble away my feelings? That sound nice.

I also had A lighter in my pocket; So I could light one of the cigarettes.

And as that, I took and light one up. I stopped smoking when I got together with Karl and Nick... 9 Years ago... We were all only 16... But the love and strong connection forever lasted... Karl suffered from short-term memory loss. And it was hard for him to remember. Both me and Nick helped him to get better...

I stared at the cigarette that was lighted and thought; Fuck it.

So I look it in my mouth and inhaled the smoke. And exhaled the smoky cloud flowing out of my mouth. The feeling was good... A smoke is always 0,1% more increasing death.

I didn’t want to die... But I wanted to see my fiancés. I can remember running with them in this field... Holding their hand... Having picnics...

It was the greatest time of my life...

Until I saw a man walking towards me in the corner of my eye.

He had brown curly hair, a big brown coat and yellow sweatshirt.

His eyes were brown as well. With round, thin glasses.

-Hey, Can I get a cig and a beer as well? You have a lot of them. He asks me with his British voice.

-Here. I say as I hand him over a bottle of beer and takes out a cigarette to him as well.

He takes it and replies politely; “Thank you”

I respond with a classic “Mhm”

You know. The “classic American”. Well, I’m Mexican, so drop that idea.

The idiot sits down beside me and opens his beer bottle with his own bare hands. And asks for a lighter.

I was starting to get a bit annoyed out of him. But I greet my teeth together and gives him the lighter.

He lights his cigarette.

He throws the lighter beside him, in the middle of the space between us, on the grass, after using it.

His beer was put between his thigs as he inhales the smoke to his lungs and exhale the cloud.

-So, what’s your name? He asks me as he looked at the view.

-Alex. I reply. Neither looking at him.-What’s your name then?

-William. But everyone calls me Wilbur. He says before picking up his beer from in between his thigs and took a sip before putting it back.

-hm. Ok, Wilbur then. I said as I looked at him lightly.

-What brings you here to the sunset and coldness? He asks as he still stare at the view.

I scoff before I reply to him;

-Just at my lowest today. Or, has been for weeks.

-Why? Wanna talk about it? He asks, finally looking at me.

-Well, My fiancés died... In a car crash. I blame myself for it... I say as I look down at my shoes, Trying hard not to shed a tear.

-Oh... Sad... My parents died several years ago. I’ve been taking care of myself for 12 Years now.. ever since I was 13... He said as his voice lowered at the last bit of his speech.

-That sounds lonely. I say looking to him again.

-Yeah... Now i am 25 and still alive.. can you believe? He said and smiled in pain.

-Eh, nope. I said before opening a bottle of beer and takes not a sip, more like a little chug.

He chuckle and takes a smoke after that.

...

-Well... I have been alone for 12 Years now. Your the only one I’ve talked to. Besides the people at the store. He said in a funny way and made me crack up.

-mhm.. Well, 1986 Isn’t easy? Or? I ask as I giggle a bit. I think its the alcohol kicking in...

-Hah, you’re right, Alex...

-760 words...

I know this aged poorly due to the wilbur things... I wrote this fanfiction between end of 2022 and start of 2023, so it's a bit shitty, I know I can do better...
