Chapter One

“So what’s the Facility exactly?” Lina asked. “And why would they take Amelia there?”

The Knights Demon Fighters were in the clock tower, sitting in their meeting room. Hoot was at the computers, checking each screen every few seconds. On one of his screens was a digital copy of the transfer records for Amelia. It hadn’t been easy to get it but Hoot knew his way around cyberspace.

Drake looked at Henry. “That place was supposed to have been destroyed years ago.” He told Henry. “So how are they taking Amelia there?” It disturbed him greatly that the location still existed somehow.

Henry shook his head. “I’m not entirely sure.” He confessed. “I mean the three of us had been present when Master Knight had us launch a final attack against Doctor Striker.” He still remembered watching the building collapse from the fire years before. They had gone through the rubble to make sure that none of the giant building still stood.

“I’m sorry, that still doesn’t answer Lina’s question. Or any of our questions really.” Zane said. “What is the Facility and why are you three acting like you saw a ghost from your past?” Something was definitely going on. He couldn’t remember the last time he had seen Hunter and Drake look so worried.

Hunter stood up. “Sounds like Henry hasn’t told you the entire story about the fight against the D.L.” He said, looking at Henry for that last bit. “Or any of the story possibly.”

“Not that much.” Nick confessed. “Just that you guys had been made illegal by the government about a decade ago.” What bugged him was not even Uncle Travis had told him much about being a Knight.

“The Facility was created by Doctor Elliot Striker, a federal agent. The purpose of the Facility was to contain Knights in prison cells where their Knight Changers wouldn’t work.” Henry explained.

Nick frowned. “Why would the government have it created?” He asked. “I thought that the Knights had still been legal at the time.”

Henry scoffed. “The Knights weren’t ever really legal.” He told Nick. “I think the only reason we existed or were allowed to do whatever we wanted was because the government was too weak to defeat the D.L. on their own.”

“Master Renard, at the time at least, thought it was a good idea.” Drake added. “He knew that, after dealing with Vorcrux’s evil Knights and even Reverse Knights, a prison for the Knights was a good idea in case any of us ever lost our way.”

“Doctor Striker, turns out, was one of the Heads of the D.L.” Hunter told the three new Knights. “His job was to make it easy for the D.L. to lock us up somewhere where we wouldn’t be able to use our Knights forms to fight back.”

“If the Facility is used to keep Knights locked up, why wasn’t Master Renard there?” Lina asked. It seemed like a good idea to her. The most dangerous Knight is locked up in the most secured prison.

“The Facility didn’t exist during the time of Master Renard’s betrayal after Vortex had been defeated and Damian was thought to be dead.” Drake explained. “I guess the government didn’t think Master Renard needed to be there since none of the Knights had tried to break him out of the normal prison.”

“The government must have rebuilt the Facility since the Knights went underground.” Henry said. “They must have known that the Knights would one day return.” He wondered how the government would know that though. It would have to mean that the Knights had never completed their mission to begin with.

“Where is the Facility located?” Nick asked.

“It was originally located two hours south of San Francisco.” Hoot replied. “But according to satellite images, there’s no sign of the Facility there anymore.” It was hard for him to figure that out. A place, no matter how large it was, couldn’t have stayed hidden for over ten years.

Zane frowned. “How is that possible?” He asked. “There’s no way that a base could be rebuilt but not show up on any satellite.” He thought of something and looked at Henry. “Did the Knights ever go into outer space?”

The others gave him a look.

“What? It could be a prison base on the Moon like in that one movie.” Zane said defensively. After fighting ancient demons, he was willing to believe that there was a prison base on the Moon.

“Zane, there were only two times when the Knights had to deal with something from outer space.” Drake replied. “When Vortex had a D.L. bot attack the Earth with hypnosis waves and when Rose and her people came here to hide.”

“So it is possible that the government made some secret prison base on the Moon.” Zane said.

“What about Doctor Striker?” Lina asked. “Wouldn’t he know where the new Facility is if he created the original one?” There was no way that the government would let someone who created a prison to capture the Knights the first time just disappear.

“Not unless you suggest we hold a seance.” Hoot replied. “Doctor Striker was killed in the fire that destroyed the Facility. The Knights found his ashes when they made sure that nothing was left of the building. I scanned the ashes myself and it was confirmed to be him.”

“Then how are we supposed to find a place if it isn’t appearing in any satellite images and the only person who might know where it is is dead?” Lina asked. She didn’t like how this was going. It was like they were having to chase after a ghost.

“We need to find someone who knows about the new Facility.” Henry said. “And we might want to start with the report Hoot found that said Knight Dreamer was being sent to the Facility for fighting as a Knight.” He turned to the screen that had the report. His eyes narrowed in on the signature at the bottom of the report. “We need to deal with Agent Alice from the D.I.S.” He was not looking forward to that reunion.
