Prologue
A yowl of sadness arose from a black she-cat with grey swirls and bright green eyes. "MY KITS!" she yowled staring at two dead kits and one living she-kit. She pushed her living kit out of the way and started nuzzling the two dead toms. The collar around her neck jingle as her twolegs came and stroked her, - trying to comfort the grieving she - she hissed through tears thinking they were going to take her kits from her. The living she-kit started mewling pathetically for her mother's milk and warmth. She ignored the pitiful kit and started licking the dead toms, warming their cold bodies. The newborn kit tried desperately to crawl towards her mother bit failed about a mouse-length away. The she-cat pushed the kit towards her with her hind legs, without taking her eyes away from the toms, tears still dripping down her face. The kit started suckling as the mother finally stopped nuzzling her fallen kits, pushing the two fallen kits close with her muzzle so the twolegs couldn't take them
By the time the sun had set, the she-cat and her kit had fallen asleep, the toms pushed close to her stomach. The twolegs knowing that the she was fast asleep, and wouldnt wake, took the two toms away from her stomach and set off to where they were taking the newly deceased kits.
