Chapter 1, Tragedy
The door suddenly widely opened and a solemn figure stood hopelessly with berserk green eyes fixed at the two laying figures on the bed. She glanced at the naked couple, now bewildered by the sudden interference as both were covered with glittering sweat and heavily panting.
The man who was on top of the girl jumped off and quickly scurried for the nearest bedsheet to cover himself up.
“F*ck, what is this, Pamela?!” The girl on the bed cursed at the innocent-looking girl standing at the door
“Couldn’t you wait for us to finish what we just started?” The girl added, looking a bit angry towards her.
The girl merely glanced at her and then shifted her gaze to the man standing beside the bed, gripping the bedsheets with all his strength. The man kept shaking his head in denial with pleading eyes at the girl.
With misty eyes, the girl barely managed to speak. “Why Jack?” Silence surrounded the entire room. “ Out of all why, my best friend, tell me why, Jackk!!?”
The girl shouted at him holding her urge to crying
“ Hey, Pam, listen! What you just saw here has happened several times before you even found out so I suggest you should just….” The girl on the bed said in sarcasm before being interrupted by Jack
“ Sammie please not now!!” Jack glared at Sammie before shifting his gaze back to Pamela, he suddenly pounced at Pamela’s knees
“ Pam my love please forgive me for what happened it was a mistake what you just saw is a mistake please can we talk Pamela”
The man pleaded at Pamela, whose face was now covered with tearful eyes as tears continuously flowed down her face like raindrops.
“ Aargh!! this is so ridiculous for me to watch,” Sammie said, sounding irritated as she got up from the bed and headed to the closet for her clothes.
Surprisingly enough, she looked less frightened by being caught by her so-called best friend; moreover, she looked happier at the moment.
Pamela couldn’t hold the burning fire inside her heart as she strolled towards Sammie and yanked her hair from behind
“How dare you, Sammie I just caught you with my boyfriend, and you are talking rubbish to me. Who the hell do you think you are, huh!”
Pam gritted her teeth as she tried to control the flowing tears on her face
“ Aargh!! You jerk, you’re hurting me, argh! Jackk!” Sammie screamed as Pamela kept dragging her backward with all her strength, strangling her throat.
“ Hey Pam stop!” Jack pushed Pamela away and rushed to the dresser, drew out a clean towel, and wrapped it around Sammie before shoving his hands around and tugging her.
All this happened so fast that Pamela was left in aghast. She couldn’t just believe that her first-ever love would break her heart to this extent and show no remorse for what he had done.
“ I know I am wrong, but what right do you have to aggress her in this way?” Jack shouted at Pamela with a taunted tone popping his eyes wide at her.
Words couldn’t explain what Pamela was feeling inside intense pain of being betrayed, the burning rage inside her the questioning voices echoing in her eardrums, she tried to avoid her tears as she felt dizzy and her vision became blurred
No no! I can't pass out in front of these jerks. No, I am not this weak, no!
Pam’s thoughts rang in her head. She couldn’t take it any longer and quickly dashed out of the room, trying her best to keep steady.
She rushed down the stairs of the well-furnished apartment; she kept walking until she was at the parking lot where she left her motorbike. Leaning on her bike she grieved in so much pain as the scene kept repeating over and over in her mind.
What hurt her the most was that even Jack decided to choose Sammie over her, her very best friend and roommate; she now realized that her friend had been jealous of her for a very long time, and she just realized what had been happening behind her back.
I need to go home, I need my Mom the most right now, she thought.
She got onto her bike, put on her helmet, and quickly drove off to the house that was once her favorite place to be.
On her way home, she tried several times to call her mother, but she didn’t pick up. She drove for a few minutes, and finally, she reached home.
It was a gatehouse, a well-designed and furnished house; when she was in, she went for a cold drink in the kitchen.
Nobody was home at the moment and she didn’t want to think where they could be. Pamela looked numb and pale because she never experienced the pain of being betrayed in love; her dear heart was completely shattered by the man she loved and trusted the most. She looked blasted, and tears once again started flowing down her face. She sat on the kitchen floor and burst into tears, crying in so much pain.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was her aunt Nana on the screen; Pamela grabbed her phone and just watched the phone ring until it stopped. She didn’t feel like talking to anyone at the moment except her mom. But her aunt kept calling again and again until she finally decided to pick it up
“ Hello” she answered with a low voice while trying her best to sound casually
“ Hey Pam where are you?” She sounded worried about something
“ Am home is everything alright?”
“ Aaam! Please come to the SunHope hospital right away, hurry, okay!” She stated sounding very worried about something
“ Okay, what is it? Has something bad happened?” Two beeping sounds followed as her aunt hung up the call, Pamela started to panic as her mind wandered to what was wrong
Without wasting any more time she hurried for her motorbike and drove off as quickly as possible to the hospital.
She called her aunt when she reached the hospital, and her aunt directed her to where she was. She found her aunt sitting on the sitting slabs outside the ICU theatre.
“ Aunt, what is wrong? Why are you here? Is everyone okay?” She asked while her bleary eyes wandered to the concealed door
Her aunt burst into tears before speaking
"I'm sorry Pam"
"What do you mean? What are you sorry for?" She patted her aunt's back while speaking.
Her aunt looked at her with pitiful eyes before speaking " Your mom had an accident; she had your dad and Nathan in the car, too! am so sorry Pam!” Her aunt mourned
“ What are you saying, aunt?” Her green eyes shot wide open as she dropped herself onto the slab. “ What are you saying?” she repeated in a more whispered tone, looking straight at Nana, her eyes slowly filled with red haze and getting watery once again.
" Your brother is still in the ICU he is badly injured"
" What do you mean still? Where are the rest? Where are Mom and Dad."
Nana, her aunt, couldn’t respond as she too was shocked and confused about what happened; as they sat gawking, her uncle, who’s Nana’s husband, came looking all shagged out.
“What is it, uncle? Where are my parents? Where are they? I don’t understand what Nana just told me,” Pamela shouted in a pleading tone as her heartbeat accelerated.
Her uncle merely glanced down at her with wandering eyes
“ Can you speak, please? You’re confusing me,” Pamela panicked as she shook his uncle’s arm.
“ I 'm sorry Pam!” was all that his uncle managed to say
Tears ran down her cheeks once again as she staggered back, looking more shocked than ever, her mind calculating what his uncle meant by saying sorry, but no, she didn’t want to even think about it.
“ What is all this, uncle, I want to see them, I want to see them, Uncle. Please can I see my family, please, please!!”
Pamela busted into deep crying as her voice echoed throughout the whole corridor as her aunt Nana tried to calm her down.
Soon the doctor came from the theatre looking devastated and defeated as he neared them he took off his glasses and let out a huge sigh
“ Please can I talk to you?” he pointed at Pam’s uncle Davis, and he followed him. After a while, Davis came back to the two women, his hands resting on hips as he neared the two.
“I'm sorry Pamela your brother also left us”
Pamela looked dumbfounded at Davis,
“You mean my family is….. No! No! No!!” Realization sank in as she staggered back until she was stopped by the
firm wall, her green eyes shot wide open while she tried to calculate what had just happened.
What is happening in my life? God what is this?
The memory of her brother running around, her mother laughing very hard and her father teasing her all came roaming in her mind. Her vision became blurred as she couldn’t see anymore; she heard voices from very far away, dizziness filled her head, and she staggered until she saw nothing anymore.
