Murder & Spies with a side of romance

"Who doesn’t love a good who done it with a some romance. I like the mystery portion of it. It’s written really well and leaves you wanting more. Alex and Sophie compliment eachother so well that I found myself looking for more time with them. I appreciate Sophie’s fierceness throughout the book and Alex’s understanding. He loves that she is bold and fierce which is not the norm especially in the time period the book takes place. I’m a smutty smut girl so I wanted more, but highly recommend because even without all the smut it still kept my interest and I wanted more of them. "

Take Bridgerton, add spies...

"...and you get Distraction! The (literal 😏) origin story of the Lockwood dynasty, Distraction is a story that delivers on all fronts! Steamy Regency romance, suspense-fuelled spy action, a murder mystery, and funny banter. Alex Montgomery is Mr McDreamy, and the perfect match for Sophie's inquisitive mind and expansive heart. We start with a bang in the middle of their courtship, and keep going at a breakneck pace through the ballrooms of London and the secret inner workings of Wellington's war efforts against Napoleon. Probably my favourite so far, but definitely a great set-up for the generations of Montgomerys that follow in subsequent books. Overall, another wonderful, well-researched read from Gabby :) Keep 'em coming!"

Hot and heroic crime-fighting duo - Napoleonic War edition!

"Distraction is no slow burn. The chemistry between lead characters Alex and Sophie is there from the get-go and it is hot, but their admiration for each other's spying skills really helps fan the flames of this true romance. Gabby Walker can not only write a great steamy scene, nail biters are in trouble when the action picks up - and it really does! Distraction is a fast-paced, flirty, spy novel that is both thrilling and cozy. And just one of a series, so thankfully, there's more where this came from."

Equal parts action and romance

"This story was such a fun and easy read. The chapters are a very comfortable length and they all flow very well. Gabbywalker has clearly done her research about the period, making it feel very authentic and immersive. I’m pretty good at predicting plot twists, but this story had me on my toes. You will fall in love with Sophie and Alex before they fall in love with each other. The antagonist remains a mystery throughout the story, and I was truly surprised when I finally met him. The final confrontation was absolutely thrilling. If you’re looking for an action-packed historical romance (or just a good book in general 😉) read this one! You won’t be sorry. "

Regency romance with a twist

"This was a great regency romance, with all the gowns and balls that you would expect. There's an Earl in need of a wife, who ends up being a saucy and adventurous woman unusually independent for her time. The relationship was more realistic and nuanced and comfortable than in the usual regency trope, which made it a very enjoyable read. But even more, layered on top of it is a really intriguing mystery story, full of political intrigue, danger, investigations, and a final cataclysmic conclusion that brings everything together. This story was a real treat to read, and is just the beginning of a series of connected books that carry the story of the family forward into the future. Well done!"

"Another fabulous story in the series. As always, well written and edited with wonderful characters who have real depth. I love the historical background and the strength of the characters which obviously sets up the personalities of their children. A REALLY enjoyable and engaging read. "
