Chapter 1
When Scar signed back into ‘myth’ he found himself in a clearing with many NPCs walking around starting to set up supplies for the new settlement.
He found himself at a loss for a few minutes, he didn’t have any idea of what to do. After thinking through all his choices for a while he decided that he should go and look around the camp.
He started by going to the edge of the cliff where a fence was being constructed. This seemed to be for separating the town from any creatures trying to climb up and into their homes while they slept.
After this he went to the other side where the mountains began. The mountain started with a very slight incline but turned more and more steep.
He decided it would be good to hike up the mountain to get a better view. When he spent about an hour climbing up the incline he turned around to look over the zone he would be in for the time being.
He could immediately see 5 distinctive areas. There was a lush forest, a swamp, a jungle, a large beach, and a barren area filled with rocks.
He drew a sketch of this view for his own use.
Get rid of the distinction between 1 and 2. Plus change it into better drawing.
As he started making his way down he saw a group of birds fly up and into the mountain. It was hard to tell but they seemed like massive eagles to him.
One of them seemed to fly around him a couple of times but it seemed like he wasn’t enough for the eagle to waste its time on.
After another one of them flew near him Scar decided it was better to turn around here since those eagles looked very intimidating.
After making it down the mountain he saw the guards in a buzz like a group of angry bees.
When he walked over to them he heard a discussion.
“Did you hear that when Sir Kallan was out hunting he saw a large group of beasts fighting in the area we came from.”
“Caratacus said that it must have been because of the massive swarm of bugs we killed.”
“Didn’t the leader say that we would be taking a trip to exterminate as many of the beasts as we could.”
When Scar heard this he wondered if he could join this group, so he decided to try it, what could he lose.
He approached the group and asked.
“Hello Sir Sarca, I heard that you would be going to exterminate beasts and I was wondering if I could be of assistance.”
Sarca was a guard he talked to alot during the trip here. He was also the guard that killed the monkey on their way here.
When he heard this he looked at Scar and rubbed his chin.
“If you came with us we wouldn’t have to worry about cooking, plus your beast knowledge could be helpful. Let me go talk to the leader.”
After saying this he went into a tent that was in the middle of the camp. After several minutes the 8 foot tall Caratacus walked out of the tent and approached him.
“Young beast tamer Scar, I am pleased with your drive. Since you have offered your service I will gladly accept you into our expedition.”
Scar was surprised by how easily he was allowed to join. Of course he wouldn’t complain about his offer being accepted.
“Thank you Sir Caratacus. When are you leaving for the trip?”
“We will be leaving later today, we expect the trip to span several days so make sure that you are prepared. I must finish preparing myself, I will see you here later.”
Hearing that they would be leaving straight away he signed out to eat before logging back in.
When he got back the group was all ready to leave and so they went straight back into the woods.
Sarca was designated to be his personal guard and he was expected to follow him strictly.
When they entered the forest Sarca started giving Scar advice.
“Since I am going to be in charge of your safety I’m going to teach you some skills needed for surviving in the wild.”
“Thank you Sir Sarca, I will happily listen to your advice.”
Seeing that the person he had to guard was easy to work with left Sarca relieved.
“When you are in the wilds, especially alone, you must not show any weakness. If you appear tough you are much less likely to be attacked by predators.”
He pointed into the distance.
“See how every guard is constantly looking around while walking with confidence? That is the tactic passed down by our ancestors to reduce the danger of the wilds.”
While he didn’t understand how confidence could protect himself, he tried his best to replicate the way the guards walked.
Seeing that Scar only took a little while to replicate their movements he thought that Scar was a natural adventurer.
After the group traveled for an hour they made it to the location of the insect swarm massacre.
As they got closer they heard roars of beasts and large clashes.
Caratacus raised his hand and everyone stopped outside the area.
“Everyone, we are going to try and kill as many of these local beasts as possible. I will lead the charge and everyone should follow behind me. All dogs you are in charge of defending our rear.”
After he finished speaking there was the sound of thunder as Caratacus’s body light up with crackling electricity.
This was the first time Scar saw a high level NPC fighting seriously and the sight was dazzling.
Caratacus roared and burst through the trees leaving scorched earth in his wake.
All of the guards followed behind their leader leaving Scar alone.
When he realized this, Scar ran alongside the dogs deciding to defend the rear for now.
He watched as the guards broke straight into the middle of a massive free for all. There were a large variety of beasts but the majority of beasts he saw were mammals.
There were panthers that snuck behind creatures and would avoid any straight forward combat.
There was also a small cat with long claws, it would teleport on top of creatures and attack with the claws.
The last creature he managed to get a good view of was a bear, it seemed one size larger than any bear on earth.
There were many other beasts but he couldn’t get a read on their abilities.
One bear rushed into the group of dogs and Scar had to start fighting. Elvinia cast a spell that locked the bear in place but after the dog pack managed to attack several times the bear broke free and started fighting back.
With a single swipe of its paw it sent 4 to 5 dogs flying, while they didn’t die they were significantly damaged.
Charlotte who finished setting up a web behind the group jumped in. She didn’t attack but like an annoying mosquito she dodged all attacks from the bear.
Avalon led several dogs behind the bear and all attacked at once.
This back and forth fight continued for 5 minutes before they managed to take down the bear.
He got significantly more experience for killing this bear than any other creature he had ever killed.
After this Scar followed along the dogs into more combat. During the next half an hour the fight lasted, Scar and his companions solidified their combat style.
This was the first time Scar and his companions got to fight together seriously. Scar allowed them to fight however they pleased and the results were great.
As the majority of the beasts were killed the rest ran into woods on all sides. The human group met up in the middle of the field and waited for more instructions.
“Fantastic job men, with this fight I suspect that our village will be safe for at least several weeks. We should take the next week to do a full investigation of the surrounding areas. We will start by going into the swamp, then the jungle, beach, and lastly the rocky field.”
Hearing that they would be traveling the entire area Scar and Elvinia were excited, wasn’t it their main goal to see all of the world.
“Hey Elvinia, did you hear that?”
“Yup I wonder what kind of cool things we will find?”
“I think that beach is going to be absolutely beautiful.”
The guards who heard this discussion chuckled to themselves.
Caratacus spoke to the duo who were in their imaginations.
“If you want to survive all the way to the beach, stay on your guard. You did a good job this time leading the dog pack. I will leave them under your care for this journey, keep up the good work.”
After he finished speaking he started leading the group south where the swamp was located. They stopped to camp right before entering the swamp.
Scar heavily seasoned some thinly cut bear meat that they killed today. He then seared it off and then started a stew. Bear meat is often called inedible because of its off putting smell and strong gameyness.
However by heavily seasoning it and then putting it into a stew effectively takes care of both of these problems. The stew as a whole had a nice gentle gamey flavor, combining it with his usual stew ingredients and spices left the guards satisfied.
“I never knew you could actually consume bear meat, I will have to report this later. Bears have a ton of meat, it could help in times of famine.”
When he heard this, Scar spoke to correct Caratacus.
“Many people say it is unedible because it is prepared wrongly, you can tell them to treat it like beef but use smaller cuts and heavily season it.”
Caratacus nodded in satisfaction hearing this advice. He would add this to his report and he could be heavily rewarded.
“Scar, you are a fantastic chef, we will reward you if you can keep up this performance. For now I cannot give you anything, but when we return to Bregenz I will give you some helpful information to raise your spider.”
Scar was very surprised with the sudden reward.
“Sir Caractacus what I gave is simple information, however I am very happy to hear about how to raise Charlotte.”
Both men thought that they were getting the better end of this deal. After they finished eating they set up a night guard and everyone went to sleep. Scar was not included in this watch rotation since he was a simple chef.
He signed out and took a 4 hour nap and logged back in at sunrise when the group would head out.
He wasn’t aware because he hadn’t been on the official forums of ‘Myth’ since he left Ayr but there were countless discussions on the difficulty of the game. Many people who left their starter towns could barely complete a hunt in large groups of players.
There were many players complaining that it was impossible to survive alone in the wild, so how were they supposed to level up?
At Sunshine Corporation there was a meeting about how they should handle this complaint.
“We are absolutely not changing anything about the game. This is another world, who ever heard about untrained people going into the Amazon Rainforest and coming back safely?”
Dr Tukey spoke in a resolute manner much to the other department heads’ frustration. Dorothy Vaughan responded in a just as serious manner.
“You are going to lose all of the casual users at this rate. We have to do something or else our world will go to waste.”
Dr Robinson the head of the monitoring department responded to the head of advertisements complaints.
“It isn’t like every player is having problems with hunting. I am personally monitoring over 20 users who have easily handled the wild.”
When everyone heard this they turned to look at her with slight anger.
“What do those geniuses have anything to do with a general user? They signed into the game and haven’t stopped hunting since, right?”
Hearing this Dr Robinson put her finger to her lips as if deep in thought before speaking.
“I do admit most of them are geniuses. However they have not all continuously hunted. Plus they are not all gaming geniuses.”
There was an immediate retort.
“That’s impossible, give me examples.”
She scratched her head.
“I will give you 3 examples. First is a little girl in the Pirate country, she obtained a rare necromancer class by pure luck and is thriving with it. My second example is a weirdo who spends almost 22 hours on the game every day. I didn’t even think it was possible but he has completed countless quests already.”
After thinking, several people said that those were outliers and wanted to hear another example that fit the normal users.
Dr Robinson pulled her messy hair and interrupted their muttering.
“Stop muttering and listen, do you remember the first customer service call, the one you wanted to use as publistity, he is my last example. I do admit he has 3 lucky events but it is mostly something any player could have done. Why don’t we watch the highlights that I have been recording for advertising?”
When Dr Tukey remembered the player who viewed ‘myth’ as his second world he smiled.
“So he is doing well, I expect most of the good luck was from the title we gave him.”
“Correct, as expected from Dr Tukey, I will put up the highlights right now.”
When she finished speaking she walked up to the computer and pulled up a folder full of videos. It seems like she had come prepared, it was no wonder she made it to a department head at 26.
The first event shown was him logging in and smiling like an idiot while touching his legs.
As the events went on they couldn’t help but get drawn into the story. When he was the first user to enter The Packrats everyone realized this was his first lucky event. The Packrats was a massive worldwide business which had extremely powerful individuals backing them.
When he walked into the Spotted Dog Kennel and stopped to let the young lady go ahead safely they smiled at the budding romance. They realized this was his second piece of good luck, he met very strict conditions to obtain the best dog companion in the Faelands.
When he entered the cooking school they were confused but it turned out that he was a fantastic chef.
This was his last piece of good luck, he might not know it yet but becoming the disciple of Fu Mu was exceptionally good luck. Not only would The Beast from the East have a lot of importance in the future but he had many quests that would greatly benefit players.
When he got the quest to learn beast taming from the girl he had been traveling with, they were happy for the young pair.
When he treated the fairies to breakfast and specifically treated the fairy Elvinia well they were dumbstruck. He didn’t seem to realize what he was doing but it seemed like this man was a natural flirt.
To woo a fairy and then be able to form a contract with them was very odd.
When they saw him read books for almost 2 full days straight and then finally complete the contract they gasped at his dedication. When the fairy trapped in the cage called a library was freed Dorothy even had a slight tear in her eye.
Nobody complained that this wasn’t a normal event, in fact those in the know thought it was far more lucky than the rest of them combined.
The expedition to exterminate the spiders was special but it was a typical event if you knew how to find them.
What really surprised them was that he got the opportunity to take part in establishing a new town. Many of the countries were currently doing this, but they were supposed to be found by related quests after the towns were already established.
“This seems like a tv show. There is romance, action, and even cooking sections. This is what we wanted from our world.”
Hearing Dr. Tukey’s words Dorothy stood up with a shocked look on her face. Suddenly it changed into a broad smile.
“Tv show? Wait couldn’t that be a solution to our current issue! If we made tv shows to display how players can adapt to this world wouldn’t it solve the complaints?”
Everyone’s eyes brightened at those words as people started to stand up one after another.
Dr Euler, the serious Asian man in a suit, spoke up.
It was at this time the last department head spoke up.
“That is a fantastic idea, our economy department could work with this. We can even make money with this show, we could sell certain players’ gameplay to channels for additional income.”
Everyone shook their heads at his words. They knew that he wasn’t good at speaking but deep down they all knew he cared about ‘myth’ just as much as any of them.
“You know Dr. Euler, that is impossible. We cannot sell players gameplay no matter what. We have to do something similar to Scar, we can give them in-game rewards in return for publicity for the game. Why don’t we find several players like Scar who have interesting gameplay to make a show with.”
When Dr. Tukey finished speaking, he looked at Dr. Robinson.
“Give me two weeks and I should be able to give you all of the gameplay you will need to work with. By the time I finish, Dorothy, I need you to get permission from the players.”
Every team leader now had a much more relieved face. When they came into this meeting they all had heavy hearts not knowing how to tackle the players complaints.
Now they had a perfect solution to the problem.
Later on the official website of ‘myth’ a mysterious tab appeared, it was called Legends.
When people opened the tab there was a timer counting down 15 days.
The original complaints on the forums were immediately replaced by discussions on what ‘Legends’ is.
Scar’s group entered the swamp and he suddenly sneezed. It seemed like someone was talking about him.
“Don’t get distracted or else Caratacus will scold you.”
Sarca, the guard in charge of him, whispered into his ear. Scar stopped his distracting thoughts and focused on what was in front of him.
When the original scout that was sent ahead of the group returned, he immediately reported his findings.
“Just as expected it is a swamp, this swamp has knee deep water and tons of insects.”
Every guard groaned, Scar asked Sarca for an explanation.
“What’s so bad that everyone is groaning.”
Sarca whispered back.
“One of the things we most want to avoid is murky water. When you travel in these waters you never know when something is going to attack your ankles or drag you into deeper waters.”
He still didn’t really understand but he would watch the situation unfold.
After a quick discussion Caratacus decided that they would have to travel through the swamp at least once.
“I know nobody wants to travel in the swamp, but we must ensure that all of the surroundings of Bregenz have no epic or legendary beasts.”
When he heard about epic and legendary beasts he thought about that giant spider in the northern forest. It had created a giant web surrounding a clearing in a brief moment.
He decided to ask for more information later. For now he followed the group of guards into the swamp.
All of the dogs couldn’t follow the group with the deep water and instead were unsummoned.
This was the first time that Scar would have to unsummon Avalon and Charlotte since he tamed them. He would treat them to a fantastic meal later as an apology.
Elvinia on the other hand stayed on his shoulder as always.
“Elvinia, I’m going to be relying on you for the time being.”
“Huhuhu, don’t worry my best friend. I may not be able to kill enemies but I can trap them and allow us to escape.”
While she was essentially saying that they could only run away she looked so proud about it so he decided to complement her.
“You’re so reliable Elvinia, truly my little guardian angel.”
She had a look of bliss on her face hearing his compliment.
“I can also feel myself getting stronger after every combat, soon I should also be able to teleport another person with my magic.”
Complimenting her paid off immediately, Elvinia had already raised her level from 1 all the way up to 6.
Name: Elvinia

Looking at her stats he could tell she was a complete glass cannon. He wondered what level she would have to reach to cast the teleportation spell she was able to use freely in the library.
“Elvinia, you’re so reliable.”
Hearing his continuous bombardments of complements left her in a state of pure bliss.
She had never been so happy that she learned space magic. Her winds flapped constantly like a puppies tail.
After this conversation the group finally embarked into the water.
