Chapter 1
Start writing here…Scar’s trip north was significantly easier than the expedition he had just taken. It would take him around 4 days if they traveled at max speed.
Scar experimented with riding on Charlotte’s back since after her evolution she was now easily supporting his weight. Scar and Charlotte both found this extremely fun, the group could easily avoid enemies and moved significantly faster.
Scar also allowed Charlotte to show off her new ability in combat. Scar was shocked when he saw Charlotte running around and leaving a full web everywhere she went. It only took a minute for an entire wall of web to be formed.
She was even able to shoot a web out, this web was only able to reach several meters away, but it was a ranged debuff allowing Charlotte a new role in combat. Scar was left extremely satisfied with this choice of ability.
On the third day of the trip when he reached the plains he received another message from customer service representative 3. They set up a date for an interview and Scar received his reward.
Thank you for cooperating. The development team has decided on your reward.
They have decided to give you a class and an item. You will receive a system
message after this. Please accept it and I’m looking forward to your interview.
Goodbye for now.
After this conversation ended there was the aforementioned system message.
A higher power is blessing you. Will you accept?
Scar selected yes since he was told this was the reward.
You have received the rare class Fae Tamer. You have received mysterious stone.
Scar immediately looked at the stone that appeared in his hand. It was an old mossy stone that emitted a slight green light. There was no description of the item so he had absolutely no idea about what it did.
Both Charlotte and Avalon looked at it like it was a delicious meal, but he put it away. He didn’t understand how these gluttons would even crave a stone.
Strangely Elvinia didn’t show any interest in the stone so he couldn’t figure out what it would do. After this he looked at his new class.

After intensely looking at his stats for several minutes he only saw 2 changes. His class changed and his skill Beast Taming changed into Fae Taming.
He pulled up the description of Fae Taming.
Can tame Fae creatures. Can tame 4 pets and summon 3 pets.
(Note: one pet must be Fae.)
He compared this to the old Beast Taming skill.
Can tame 3 beasts and summon 2. Can tame rare level pets.
Scar had always kept one of his pets slots open just in case but now he would have to change that. He would now be missing out on an entire additional summon slot.
He didn’t want to just randomly tame something but he would have to keep an eye open. After this brief interlude he kept traveling north.
The more he traveled along the plains the more players he ran into. Most of the players in the area would stare at him riding Charlotte like he was an alien.
The sight of a player riding a 4 feet tall spider must have seemed strange to the players since no one had found a mount system in the game yet.
Unknown to Scar there would be a new forum discussing mounts alongside several screenshots of an unknown player riding a large spider. This sparked a heated debate about how that player managed to get a mount.
Scar was unaware of this fact and was happily traveling to Ayr city to go shopping. His best friend Brian would be gaining access to the game in 2 ingame days so he would go catch up with all his acquaintances in the city.
The sun was already setting so he decided to sign off for today and resume his travels tomorrow.
He logged off and went grocery shopping with Brian. Brian probably wouldn’t play the game as much as Scar but he took the first week off from work to play the game.
Brian worked an office job, this meant that he was busy 9-5 Monday through Friday. He would make time to help Scar whenever he was off of work and Scar was extremely thankful for that, that’s not even mentioning their past.
Scar thanked Brian again as he was about to leave and told him about the interview he would have in the next couple days.
“Oh, congratulations. I didn’t know my brother was a celebrity. Don’t forget me when you’re famous alright.”
He laughed at his own joke, Thomas laughed alongside him.
“There is no way I ever return all the favor I owe you, how could I forget you.”
The two laughed and Brian left to go back to work. Today was a Friday so Brian had to go back after his ‘lunch break’.
Thomas wheeled his way back to the console and signed back into the game. He was at the south gate so he would have to walk for quite a bit until he would reach his first stop.
The guards at the gate told him to dismount Charlotte in the city so he was walking along the street with his pets following him. Scar had been gone for several weeks so he was feeling slightly nostalgic.
After walking for a while he reached his first stop. He looked at the nostalgic shop where his adventure started and entered the doors.
Colborn, the manager of Packrats, was currently behind the desk reading several documents. He looked up when he saw the door opened.
Seeing the man who walked in he happily stood up.
“Scar, welcome back to Ayr. What are you doing back here?”
Scar walked up to the desk and responded.
“I set up a restaurant in Bregenz, with Caratacus’s permission of course, so I’m now free to adventure again. I wanted to return and help my best friend to become an adventurer.”
Hearing this Colborn breathed a sigh of relief. He had been slightly worried that something had gone wrong.
“Ah all is good then, I suppose I owe you a reward then. You have wonderfully completed your part in establishing Bregenz, I have read several reports about your contribution and I was pleasantly surprised.”
After saying this Colborn rubbed his chin deep in thought. Scar seeing that Colborn didn’t have a reward in mind decided to ask for the same reward as he did from Caratacus.
“Colborn my friend, if I may, could I ask for your help when I need it at a later time.”
Hearing this Colborn had a slightly troubled look.
“Merchants don’t like to owe favors when possible. Hmmm, however, for you since you did such a good job I shall accept it.”
He let out a long sigh, Scar was very happy. He now had 2 favors from very important NPCs, he would have to use them wisely. With both financial and physical support there was nothing he couldn’t do.
After briefly chatting Scar got another massive supply of cooking ingredients, he filled up his player bag completely. After looking at the in-game time he realized he spent an entire hour chatting and shopping with Colborn.
“I have taken more of your time than I expected. I will let you get back to work now.”
Colborn looked surprised as well.
“I didn’t realize so much time had passed. I should get back to work, good day my friend.”
The two shook hands before Scar started traveling to the cooking school. When he arrived at the school the sun was already setting, Scar decided to take this opportunity to log off.
The next day he started by going to meet his master. He remembered the message he got when he obtained the rights to a restaurant. It said that he met one of the conditions to advance his cooking class.
While he was walking down the hallway to his teachers room he looked in all the classrooms. To his surprise his teacher was there at the front of the classroom.
Scar silently entered the room and took a seat at the back of the room. His teacher Fu Mu gave him a look and smiled, he didn’t interrupt his lesson though.
He was teaching a lesson on various creatures and how to prepare them. Scar was used to breaking down animals but this lesson was still a nice refresher for him.
Despite it being a refresher for him, Scar found himself learning quite a lot. Fu Mu seemed to be one with his knife as he effortlessly cut the strange bird into 8 pieces.
He started with splitting the chicken in half along the spins. He then effortlessly took the wings off. Scar knew from personal experience that this was not easy, in fact finding the place to cut the wings was quite challenging.
The next step was to split the breasts from the thighs, Scar watched as the knife didn’t even hesitate to split each side one after the other in one fluid movement.
The last step was separating the thighs and drumsticks, when he finished this Fu Mu put the knife down. Scar had counted and it didn’t even take 30 seconds to fully break down the chicken while explaining it clearly.
Scar honestly wanted to clap but didn’t want to interrupt his master. Each student went up and broke a chicken down one by one and received some advice from Fu Mu.
After everyone had gone Fu Mu looked at Scar and spoke.
“Why don’t you come up as well Scar.”
Several students had noticed Scar sneak into the room and were secretly murmuring about it. They wondered who dared to come late to class and not even apologize about it.
“Yes master, please guide me.”
Hearing the stranger call their teacher master, most of the westerners were confused while the several Asian individuals looked at him with some respect having understood the significance of this term.
Scar walked to the front of the classroom and pulled out his personal knife. He started by looking over the bird and waited.
“Start.”
Hearing this he first ran his knife along both sides of the spine to split it in half. He flipped the chicken over and laid it out flat in a spatchcock.
He found the right spot with his hand and then took the wings off with a clean cut. After this he split it into breasts and thighs, the last step was the drumsticks and it took Scar several seconds to find the joints.
Once he found it he was easily able to make a clean cut. After doing this for the other thigh he put the knife down.
Fu Mu happily smiled as he looked over each of the 8 pieces.
“Very well done my disciple. The only advice I can give you is to practice more. All of your cuts are very well done and there is almost no wasted meat. Good job, return to your seat. I’ll talk with you after the lesson.”
Scar was very pleased with the compliment and returned to his seat at the back of the class. All of the students he passed looked at him with respect.
None of them had received such high praise even after going to his classes for several weeks. No wonder he was accepted as a personal disciple.
The class continued for another hour and a half before the lesson ended for the day. Fu Mu taught one 2 hour lesson each day Monday through Friday. The students enjoyed Fu Mu’s lessons so they tried to attend as many of his lessons as they possibly could.
They learned applicable skills in his class as well as how to cook some of the exotic beasts of this world.
After all of the students left the two started to clean up the room. Scar conveniently took the prepared chicken as well as several vegetables to make some meals.
After they cleaned the room they started walking to Fu Mu’s room. Once they entered his room Fu Mu sat down on a couch.
“I see you have gotten much stronger, congratulations. My disciple, what brings you here?”
Scar found a chair and sat down before responding.
“Master, I have gotten much stronger indeed. Have I introduced you to my 2 new companions, this spider here is Charlotte she just evolved recently. The lovely angel on my shoulder is Elvinia, say hello to my master you two.”
Both Avalon and Charlotte walked up to Fu Mu and sniffed him. Scar didn’t think that spiders had a strong sense of smell but decided to ignore it.
Elvinia flew around Fu Mu’s head several times before speaking.
“Hello, you are my companion’s master so you can be considered my master as well. Take care of me.”
Before Fu Mu could speak, Scar quickly interjected.
“Elvinia helps me cook so I hope you accept her.”
Fu Mu looked at the little fairy with noticeably more excitement after hearing that bit from his disciple.
“A fairy that can help you cook, Scar you are truly lucky.”
There was a look of nostalgia on his face when he said this. Scar, who noticed this, asked curiously.
“Master, did you have a companion who helped you cook?”
Fu Mu came to his senses when he heard this and looked at Scar intensely like the first time they met.
“I did, he was like a sibling to me.”
Hearing the ‘was’ Scar felt the sadness his master was radiating.
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
Hearing this Fu Mu smiled slightly.
“Thank you, I shall ask you something Scar.”
Scar felt like Fu Mu was about to say something important so he sat up straight.
“You are not only my disciple but also a Fae Tamer who shows great potential, will you help me?”
Scar realized that he somehow managed to trigger a quest. It seems like he got very lucky just now, he secretly had high expectations as he spoke.
“Master, ask me for anything!”
Fu Mu seemed to deflate as he started to speak.
“When I still lived on the eastern continent I had one companion. My father, while I was young, went into the mountains to investigate reports of a village being attacked. When my father returned he was followed by a young creature. He was raised by my father and was like my sibling.”
There was a look of regret on his face as he spoke.
“When we were young he followed me everywhere and we traveled all around the continent. We spread chaos in our wake. It was the best time of my life. When my family was attacked I was the only one who escaped. I returned after several years and found this stone. It may sound crazy but I can feel his energy coming from this stone.”
Fu Mu took out a stone that looked like a fossilized heart to Scar. Fu Mu carefully put it on the table in front of him.
“I have spent countless years trying to find a way to revive my companion but I have always failed. Scar, you show great potential as a beast tamer. I no longer believe that I will be able to revive him. If you accept I shall give you this stone, I hope you find a way to revive him and allow him to accompany you on your journey. He was a proud and fierce creature but he will be like a brother I promise you.”
Fu Mu had a single tear fall from his eye as he finished his story. Scar felt like he could see the countless years of effort in that tear.
“Master, please trust me with this.”
When he finished a quest appeared in his quest log. Scar pulled it up while his master was composing himself.
Fu Mu’s Deepest Desire
Fu Mu, your master, has explained some of his past. While doing so he revealed that he had a companion in the past. He has been attempting to find a way to revive it for countless years since. Despite his countless years of effort he has been unable to do so. You, his disciple, shows great potential as a beast tamer so he would like you to take over this task. Fu Mu believes that if you succeed you will have the help of an exceptional ally.
Difficulty Level: Unknown
Reward: An unknown pet
Requirement: Find a way to revive the stone heart.
After seeing that the quest didn’t tell him what to do, Scar could only sigh. Fu Mu had recovered at this point and picked the heart up.
“My brother, I have failed you. I hope you will recover in the hands of my only disciple. I hope I will see you again in the flesh.”
After he finished speaking to the heart he carefully handed it over to Scar. When he accepted it a system message appeared in front of him.
Would you like to accept the Stone Heart as a pet?
The first thought that came to his head was could a Stone Heart be a pet? He shook his head and accepted the heart as his pet.
When he did so he felt a distinct presence from the heart. Scar understood now why his master said he felt a presence from the heart.
While faint the feeling was one of pure ferocity, he could tell this was a creature that lived off of battle.
Scar pet the heart and the presence seemed to calm down slightly. Seeing this Fu Mu smiled slightly.
“My brother, I have left you in good hands.”
The 2 chatted for a long time before Fu Mu got to the main purpose for his visit. During this conversation Scar found out that there were 2 ranks of chef above his current rank.
The ranks went novice cooking, intermediate cooking, professional cooking, and master cooking. Scar managed to skip the novice cooking by completing the cooking trial and was right now at the intermediate cooking rank.
Fu Mu said that alongside owning a restaurant there were 3 other requirements to increase his rank. The first requirement was to serve a certain amount of dishes.
The second requirement was to create a certain amount of unique dishes.
The last requirement was by far the hardest, he would have to reach a certain level of reputation. He didn’t have to be known worldwide but he should be known by a certain amount of people.
Fu Mu didn’t know any of the numbers for the 3 requirements but said Scar would just have to work on it for quite some time. So long as he kept these in mind Fu Mu thought he would be able to complete them in time.
After chatting the two men cooked a meal each and they happily chatted while slowly eating. Scar didn’t leave for several hours, and when he did it was already 3 o’clock.
Brian would be creating his character tomorrow, Scar decided he would sign out for now and clean up around the house. It was around 1 in the real world, Scar did household chores until he got a text from Brian saying he just got his console and would be creating his character now.
Scar immediately stopped what he was doing and logged back into the game to show his friend around the city.
Scar had walked to the square where he originally spawned. Scar knew it was in the combat quarter and after looking around for some time he found the area.
Scar saw groups of players appearing every 30 seconds or so. People were constantly getting their consoles and logging in even after all this time.
Scar took a seat and watched as more and more people signed in and slowly took their first steps. Several people looked at him and his intimidating companions as they walked past but Scar didn’t return any of the looks.
After 10 minutes he saw a familiar figure appear in the square. He stood up and made his way over.
When he saw the name above the players name he face palmed.
