CHAPTER 1
Michael’s POV
Today is another day of school.
My name is Michael Thorne. I’m an omega—a male omega, to be exact. I just turned 18, which means I can finally find out who my mate is!
Let me tell you about the ranks.
First, we have the Alphas. They’re the highest and most superior rank. Alphas are more dominant and are considered the strongest rank among mankind. Usually, Alphas are male, but it’s not too rare to see a female Alpha. Alphas can impregnate any gender and rank, including Betas.
That brings us to the next rank: Betas. Betas are extremely common. They’re basically regular humans. There isn’t much to say about them. They can only impregnate female Betas, and they cannot impregnate Omegas. Betas can only have children with other Betas.
Next are the Omegas. Omegas are seen as weak and worthless. Most people only see them as someone to breed with. Omegas can become pregnant regardless of gender, but only an Alpha can impregnate an Omega. To most people, Omegas exist only to have children with Alphas.
Last but not least, we have the most hated rank of all: male Omegas.
We are hated because we can only mate with male Alphas, which means one less male Alpha for female Omegas to find as a mate. On top of that, we have a 50 percent chance of miscarriage. Because of that, many people despise us.
Now, it’s time to start my story.
As I wake up, I quietly make my way to the bathroom, trying not to wake my father. When I get there, I open the door and quietly shut it behind me before starting my morning routine.
After finishing, I head back to my room, put on my clothes, and grab my backpack. I make my way downstairs, but before I can reach the bottom step, I hear my drunken father wake up from his nap on the living room couch.
“You useless Omega, come down now!” my father yells from his spot on the couch.
I sigh quietly, mentally preparing myself for my daily beating before school.
“Yes, s—”
Before I can finish my sentence, an empty beer bottle hits me in the head.
I fall to the ground, letting out a quiet whimper. I already know better than to make any noise when I get my daily beating.
Third Person
After about thirty minutes, Michael’s father finally finishes his daily beating and passes out on the couch.
Michael quickly cleans and bandages his wounds before rushing to school. He only has twenty minutes before classes start, but because he lives on the bad side of town, he’s forty minutes away from school.
By the time he finally arrives, he only has four minutes to spare. He runs through the hallways, passing his locker entirely. He reaches class just as the bell rings.
Simon’s POV
Just as I am about to start class, my favorite student walks through the door.
His name is Michael Thorne.
I always worry about that boy, especially because he seems to have new scars every day.
“Mr. Thorne, you’re here on time,” I say with a small smirk as I look at Michael. “Head to your seat, please.”
I watch him silently nod and walk to his desk. As he moves, I notice he’s limping and has a bruise behind his neck. It almost looks like a handprint or some kind of mark.
I don’t ask any questions, though.
He’s the smartest student in all of his classes…
And I have a feeling he’s my mate.
