Chapter 1 : I finally kicked the bucket
Serena Bliss stood by the hospital bed as doctors in white coats passed through her body, trying to save the woman lying there. She looked at her own pale face, bald head, and even missing eyebrows, lying there peacefully. People really do look funny without eyebrows.
Serena couldn't believe she was fixated on her lack of eyebrows at a time like this. It seemed that death wasn't as scary or painful as she had thought; she felt no pain at all. Yes, she was dead. Serena stood aside, watching her own body, trying to get back into the shattered, disease-ridden body, but she still wanted to live.
This floating sensation made her feel uneasy and insecure. Just then, the door to the hospital room burst open, and a couple rushed in, crying as they hugged Serena's body. Serena reached out to hug her mom, but her hands went right through her.
"Don't be so sad, our daughter is free now. She's gone to a better place," Serena's dad said, supporting her mom.
Serena watched them like a bystander. She really was free. From the age of 15, she had been hospitalized, undergoing chemotherapy twice a week. The pain that pierced her bones had tortured her for nine years.
At first, her family was full of love and despair, but as time passed, their visits to the hospital became less frequent, and they gradually grew numb to her illness.
Serena didn't blame them. She was grateful to be born into a wealthy family that could afford her treatment, allowing her to live for over a decade in the hospital bed. She was satisfied, but life had too many regrets.
Her soul smiled, thanking her family. Thank you. Serena's soul grew lighter and began to float uncontrollably, not knowing where it was going.
Suddenly, she heard a cold voice in her soul: "Soul qualified, binding system space."
Immediately, a cold energy surged into her soul. Even in her soul state, she felt the icy energy explode within her. With the impact of this energy, Serena lost consciousness. Her last thought before blacking out was, "I hope I can still reincarnate."
She didn't know how long it had been, but Serena finally woke up, feeling extremely exhausted. Her soul felt heavy, making her feel utterly drained. She rubbed her head instinctively, but it felt like she was rubbing cotton.
Serena was both surprised and delighted, unable to understand her current situation. Her soul had changed, but she didn't know if it was a good or bad thing. Still, it was better than dissipating. She calmed down and looked around. Everything was a white void, with no sound, no life, just a dead silence that was eerily quiet.
Facing the unknown, Serena was also scared. Even in her soul state, she felt a chilling fear. But at least she was still alive, albeit in another form. Serena couldn't figure it out, but she had to accept it. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
The disease had given her endless pain and suffering, but it had also forged her resilience. Without a tenacious spirit, she would have committed suicide long ago.
Serena stepped on the ground, feeling the strange texture beneath her feet. She bent down to touch it, never having seen anything like it before.
After a while, she confirmed that she was alone and gave up looking for companions. She sat down, crossed her legs, and closed her eyes like she was meditating.
To be honest, Serena cherished life more than anyone. There must be a reason she came to this place. She could only wait and see what fate had in store for her.
Was it just her imagination, or did meditating make her feel comfortable? No, it was her soul that felt comfortable, as if warm energy was flowing into her, making her feel light-headed.
The long wait was terrifying, so Serena found a way to pass the time—meditating and absorbing those unknown energies. She didn't know how to absorb them, so she just followed her instincts.
She opened her eyes, delighted as she touched her body. It felt different. Previously soft and cotton-like, her soul now felt more compact, though only slightly. But Serena noticed the change.
What was this place that could strengthen her soul?
Incredible!
"Test passed, initiating mission." A cold mechanical voice echoed in the dead space, sounding abrupt and eerie.
Hearing this voice, Serena reflexively felt a chill. It was the same voice she heard before losing consciousness.
Faced with the unknown, Serena remained cautious and didn't ask who or what the voice was. In her current state, what could anyone want from her?
"Your ID is 666. Do you want to start your mission now, ID 666?"
With an ID like 666, Serena couldn't help but feel a bit mocked. She heard about starting a mission, and although she didn't understand, she immediately replied, "Start the mission."
As soon as she spoke, a projection screen appeared in front of her, displaying her information.
Name: Serena Bliss
ID: 666
Age: 27
Soul Value: 75
Mental Strength: 133
Luck Points: 13
Life Points: 50
Experience Points: 0/9999
Charm Points: ???
Skills: None
Honor Titles: None
Looking at these attributes, Serena felt like she was in an online game. Why were her charm points question marks? But charm wasn't an important stat, so she didn't care and asked other questions instead.
"Is there anyone else before me with the ID 666?"
"Player does not have permission to know." The cold voice replied.
"What happens after I reach 10,000 experience points?"
"Player does not have permission to know."
"Since I'm a player, are there other players?"
"Player does not have permission to know."
"Why is my charm value unknown?" She should have permission to know this.
The mechanical voice paused before saying, "While you were alive, no man ever expressed any affection or love towards you, so your charm value is undetectable."
Serena: ...
——————————
This world has countless dimensions, and Serena's mission is to enter these infinite realms and fulfill the wishes of the clients. These clients give up certain things, hoping their lives can take a turn for the better. Serena's task is to help them achieve these dreams. When Serena found out she could enter other people's bodies, she was thrilled. Completing missions while experiencing a healthy life and making up for her past regrets sounded perfect.
But the so-called artificial intelligence quickly doused her excitement with cold water. "Your mission time is limited to five years. Your life value is only 43. One point of life value equals one year. If you exceed your life value, you will completely vanish. Of course, you can also choose to stay in the mission world, live out your life, and then there will be nothing more." Serena nodded to show she understood.
"The first mission, randomly selected from the artificial intelligence, is the simplest: the school world. Are you ready to start the mission?" The AI's voice was cold and mechanical.
Every time Serena heard the AI's voice, she got chills. She really didn't like it, so she quickly said, "Start the mission." As soon as the words left her mouth, she wasn't prepared for the sudden onslaught. Her head spun, and it felt like her whole body was crammed into a narrow, suffocating bottle. She could hardly move and felt like she might die.
"Beat this little bitch! Who does she think she is, getting close to our heartthrob?"
"Thick-skinned bitch, acting like she's a lady, what a joke..."
When Serena finally regained her senses, she heard angry buzzing in her ears. People were shouting and kicking her body relentlessly. Serena felt like they were going to tear her apart.
What the hell is this? Wasn't this supposed to be the simplest task? Why am I getting beaten up right from the start? What happened to the easy mission? Serena opened her eyes and saw a circle of bright white legs around her, occasionally kicking her. The floor had a distinct tile smell mixed with the stench of a restroom. She quickly realized she was being beaten up in a bathroom.
Her head was empty, and she had no time to process this world's plot. In this situation, Serena was at a loss. Suddenly, a hand grabbed her collar and yanked her up. Her body stood up involuntarily. She opened her eyes and saw the girl in front of her, dressed in a school uniform skirt, glaring at her with disdain and disgust. The girl's finger poked Serena's face, her long nails nearly piercing her skin.
Serena winced in pain, but after enduring years of illness, she held back. However, this body's pain tolerance was low, making her scream. Seeing the pleasure in the girl's eyes, Serena felt a chill. How deep is this hatred to make a young girl show such an expression? This wasn't just simple school bullying.
The girl, seeing Serena's blank face, grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall, making loud thudding sounds. Already confused, Serena's head became even foggier, and she felt like her soul was about to leave this body. She panicked; she couldn't leave this body, or her mission would fail.
It didn't make sense to fail on the first mission. She instinctively knew that failing meant she might disappear forever, no more Serena. With sheer willpower, she endured the pain. Eventually, the girls got bored of her lack of resistance and left, stepping on her as they went, causing her body to convulse in pain.
Suddenly, a surge of uncontrollable hatred and humiliation filled Serena's heart, making her new body tremble. She wanted to tear those girls apart, make them feel her pain.
Serena was startled by this body's reaction and took a while to suppress these emotions. She got up from the floor, walked to the bathroom, locked the door, and collapsed on the toilet, feeling utterly drained. She was in pain all over. These girls had been brutal. After calming down a bit, Serena started to process this world's plot.
Rutherford Academy was a prestigious school. Only the rich and powerful attended, a place where the elite polished their status. Here, a strict hierarchy was in place, based on blatant displays of wealth and power.
One day, among all the beautiful swans, an ugly duckling appeared, like a blot on a painting of flowers. This ugly duckling felt the world's malice, faced endless pranks and troubles.
Every school had those untouchable figures, the ones whose mere presence could shake the world’s economy—heartthrobs who were cool, rich, and had everything. Rutherford Academy had three of them, and they were entangled with the ugly duckling in a web of complicated emotions.
But this had nothing to do with Serena. She wasn't the ugly duckling.
Her new body was named Emily Johnson, a sophomore whose family ran a company. Getting into Rutherford Academy was sheer luck. The reason she was beaten? She offended the ugly duckling, who was actually a witch from a magical world, whose body had been destroyed. The witch had crossed over into the ugly duckling's body, healed a high-ranking person with magic, and thus got into Rutherford Academy.
The witch despised this body but couldn't leave it. Her powers had diminished too much, and leaving this body would dissipate her soul. She used some magic to enhance the body’s quality, turning the gray duckling into a dazzling goddess.
Facing the students’ pranks, the ugly duckling—no, Lily White—found them childish. She could solve any trouble with a thought. Lily didn’t want to stand out in school, still dressed plainly, but she caught the attention of the three heartthrobs.
A witch who lived so long naturally didn’t care about these kids, but she enjoyed feeling superior. This wasn't the harsh magical world, and Lily liked being adored.
A witch?! Serena's jaw dropped. Wasn't this supposed to be the simplest world? How did a witch get involved? A magical powerhouse in a school world?
Serena felt hopeless about this task. She was just an ordinary person, while the other was an overpowered existence, adored like a goddess. Lily White had even formed a gang, ruling as the Queen of the Night outside school.
It seemed Lily was going to break this world. The gap between them was too big. Serena wondered if the cold AI was messing with her. This was a simple task? Then she saw the original’s wish: to drag the high and mighty Lily White into the dust, make Alex Frost stop being manipulated by Lily, and punish those who helped Lily bully her.
Serena: …
Serena felt the mission was incredibly wrong. She was a task performer with no advantage. Against absolute power, everything was useless; power could crush everything. Serena tried to contact the AI mentally, hoping it would respond. The original’s wish was too hard; she couldn’t fulfill it.
Serena knew her limits. She’d likely be defeated before reaching Lily White. She valued her life too much. Surprisingly, she managed to connect with the AI. It sounded like static before the AI’s voice came through, “Why are you in this world?” Serena was frustrated; how would she know?
“This is an intermediate world. What are you doing here? You can’t complete intermediate tasks. Hmm, seems you were sent to the wrong world. My system has issues. I can't transfer you back right now. Since you’re here, the task must continue.”
After a burst of static, the AI was gone, leaving Serena dumbfounded. So, her task difficulty just skyrocketed? Serena thought of her luck value—was it too low, causing this mess?
Given the situation, Serena wasn’t scared anymore. With no way out, she felt a surge of defiance. She had died once, what was there to fear? Possessing a healthy body felt like a win. Serena was good at enduring and being patient.
The recent beating was because the original owner had told Alex that Lily was involved with a mafia boss. She tried to warn Alex, saying Lily was a fraud and spoke ill of her. Emily, the original owner, was telling the truth. Lily was involved with the mafia, and her true love was a mafia boss.
A mature, ruthless man with a godlike face was Lily's type. To her, the school’s adored heartthrobs were just childish. She played with them out of boredom. These three adored it.
Lily, hearing Emily badmouthing her to Alex, had someone teach Emily a lesson. Lily didn’t even bother to deal with such characters herself. Hence, the bathroom incident. The girls who beat up Emily were her targets for revenge. Sigh, the mission was daunting.
Serena had no plan yet. She left the bathroom, it was class time, so the halls were empty. She headed to the school nurse's office. Her wounds needed treatment. Nothing was more important than a healthy body, and she couldn’t do anything else right now.
The school nurse was a man in his twenties, with glasses adding a scholarly charm to his handsome face. His white coat accentuated his tall, sexy figure. He was very attractive, evident by the room full of injured girls with dubious ailments, wanting his attention.
Serena pressed her lips and queued up, watching the love-struck girls ahead. Clearly, she was the only one truly hurt here. Could she go first? Leaning against the wall, she finally got her turn. The nurse looked at her bruised face with surprise. Used to girls faking illness, an actual injury was a shock.
Pointing to her swollen forehead, Serena said, “Help me treat this.”
She wouldn’t let him touch her other wounds. Expecting a female nurse, she was surprised by this handsome man. Such a waste as a school nurse. In a protagonist’s world, even the nurse was charming.
The nurse applied alcohol to a cotton swab and roughly dabbed Serena’s bruises. She winced in pain. Even the nurse, who had no reason to hate her, was rough. Was Rutherford Academy completely under Lily White's influence?
The nurse quickly bandaged her and asked, “How did this happen?”
Her skin was broken, and he finished just like that? The nurse’s careless treatment was a slap in the face for someone with years of hospital experience. Irresponsible.
“That’s it?” Serena pointed to her unicorn-like swollen forehead. Such crude treatment irritated her, adding to her frustrations.
The nurse adjusted his glasses, giving an ominous glint, and coolly asked, “What do you want? Bandage your whole body?”
This nurse was basically useless. The students here had personal doctors. A student demanding proper treatment amused him. He raised an eyebrow at Serena.
Serena was speechless. His confidence made her seem unreasonable. In the short time she’d been here, Serena’s worldview had flipped. Schoolgirls could be so vicious, and the nurse could be so arrogant without fear of being fired.
Serena had nothing to say and no reason to argue. She stood up to leave, her mind focused on the mission. No matter how tough, she had to try.

Incredible performance
