Devil's Stare
Devil's Stare
"Hey, what's up!"
"Nothing much, what about you?"
"Nothing, but I do have a hangout spot."
"Oh, really? Where?"
"You know that abondoned watch tower in Royal Forest?"
"Oh Yeah!"
Jim and Bob set off. "Hey Siri. Set me a route to Royal Woods Hiking Trail." "Route set." They drove off and followed Siri's direction.
"I heard there are police clothes hanging up by a weird claw of some sort on the post of the watch tower."
"Yo, what do you think it could be?"
"Probably just set up by some kids."
"Yeah probably."
Once they get to the forest they immediately head for the watch tower.
"Damn, that's tall as hell!"
"Damn, you're right!"
They get to the top and decide to hang there for the night. They hear sticks and leaves crackling.
"Hey, are you sure it's safe out here?"
"Yeah, we'll be fine."
"Alright, whatever you say man."
They checked their car for sleeping bags, they had forgotten to bring them.
"Damn. How are we gonna sleep?"
"We might aswell go home then."
"Stop being a wuss Jim."
"Well, how are we gonna sleep?"
"There's normally a bed in those things."
"As long as we put a pillow between us, I'll be alright to sleep in it with you."
"As long as we can sleep."
They fall asleep. Bob wakes up early to get Jim for the sunrise.
"Damn, that's a pretty sunrise."
"Yeah, that's cool."
They go down and walk to their car.
"Where the hell is our car?"
"How the hell would I know, I was asleep"
"Well, we better get walking then."
"Oh hell no, that is a 5 hour hike down to home."
"I'll call an uber then."
He reaches into his pocket to grab his phone.
"Where the hell is my phone?"
"It must be at the watch tower."
"Alright then."
They walk all the way back to the watch tower. They do a massive search for Bob's phone. They can't find it.
"Where the hell is this thing?!"
"I don't know man!"
"Alright, gig's up Jim, where'd you put my phone and our car?"
"I was asleep! I swear down!"
They end up accepting his phone is gone. But Bob remembers there is little cracks in between the floorboards. He checks under the watch tower and finds his phone cracked and scratched.
"For gods sake, it's all scratched and cracked. At least I can still call an uber."
"Alright hurry up, it's cold as hell out here."
"Hell aint cold bro."
"Man shut up and call an uber."
"What?"
"What?"
"My e-Sim ran out bro."
"Recharge it then."
"I need internet to pay for things."
"Oh shoot."
They end up staying another night in the watch tower.
They fall asleep in the very uncomfortable and small bed. When they wake up Jim immediately goes out and looks at the sunrise.
"Hey, this might be inconvenient as hell, but atleast we're spending some quality time together!"
"Yeah, but I heard something as I was falling asleep."
"Shut up, not funny."
"Whatever, Bob."
The next night, they're getting hungry.
"Oh damn, I'm so hungry."
"Me too, we need to go home now!"
"We can't, who would check here for people?"
"Well, yeah, true."
They decide to go out and hunt for bears.
"There's a big one there."
"Alright, throw in 3... 2... 1..."
They throw their spears and zip into the bushes. They hear the bear go down.
"Yes! We got it!"
"Nice one, Bob!"
They go back and start a campfire and eat their bear meat.
"Damn, that was tasty!"
"Yeah, we're also learning how to survive in the wild!"
They head off to bed. Jim wakes up late to some wood creaking.
"Bob, get the hell up, I hear someone."
"Oh shoot, actually?"
"Yes, I wouldn't wake you up at like 3 for a prank."
"What the..."
"What?"
"Do you see that glowing under the watch tower?"
"Oh shoot, are those eyes?"
"Crap, let's get our stuff and run!"
The creature zips into the bushes.
"Alright, have you got your phone and your bag?"
"Yep, do you have your bag?"
"Yep. Alright let's go!"
"Wait, don't you think it's a bit late for that?"
"Oh who the hell cares, there is a creature lurking and trying to kill us, home time."
"Alright."
They walk down the stairs with their flashlights, darting them around scared.
"H-HuNgRy..."
"What the hell Jim, that was scary!"
"What do you mean?"
"You said in a devilish tone "Hungry"."
"No, I didn't"
They quickly glance at eachother.
"Crap. It was the creature."
"Yep. Let's hop the rest of this railing and book it."
"Easy."
They hop the railing and start runnning for the road. They hear fast crackling of leaves and cracking of sticks behind them, almost as if something is catching up to them.
"Is that-"
"No time to look back! Run!"
They have been running for an hour. They are starting to get tired.
"Oh. My. God. It's so tiring!"
"Just keep running!"
"Are those bikes?"
"Yes, infront of a cabin, don't steal them, they're obviously in use and owned by somebody."
"Who cares?"
"Me, I can't go to prison!"
They continue on their running journey going down the massive hiking hill.
"It's still so tiring"
It's silent.
"Hey Bob, it's tiring!"
Still silent, no sounds but his footsteps.
"Bob?"
He glances behind him while running down the short hill.
"Bob? Where are you! Stop this prank! It's not funny!"
He can only see what he would call. A devil's minion, behind him.
"P-Please!"
He's trembling out of fear.
He doesn't think Bob is alive anymore. He makes it down the steepest part of the hill into the backstreet.
"Bob! Where the hell are you?!"
It's dead silent. Silent as a mouse.
"Crap, he mighta gone main road."
When Jim finally reaches home he locks his door and runs to bed out of fear. He prays for Bob and his safety on the way home.
When he wakes up the next day the only thing he finds is Bob's clothes and some of his limbs hanging on their door. With a giant claw.
"B-Bob..."
He breaks down into tears, he mourns the loss of his best friend of five years for a year.
"Bob, I know you aren't here anymore but. I go to your grave every day and cry."
"There are old, stale, wet graham crackers for you. I thought you might like them. I hope there are a lot of graham crackers in heaven."
After another 2 years he moves out. Before he leaves for good, he decides to nail a note to a wall in the living room reading; "May Bob forever rest in peace."
After 2 months of being in his new house, Jim hears a knock at his door.
"Jim!"
"Who are you? How do you know my name!"
"It's the mailman."
"Hi!"
"Jim?"
"Yeah, what?"
"I remember you vividly."
"What happened to your arm?"
"Long story."
"Come in, tell me about it."
He lets the mailman in.
"What happened to your arm?"
"It's unbelievable."
"Tell me!"
"Well, me and my friend were hiking and we stayed at this watch tower for the night."
"We got trapped there as our car had randomly dissapeared from where we left it."
"Ok, suspicious but ok."
"Just stay with me, but we stayed there for 2 nights, before I was woken by creaking stairs outside."
"Mhm."
"I woke up my friend "Jim" which is oddly your name too, but I woke him up and told him that I saw some glowing eyes below the watch tower."
"He looked at them and said "Oh shoot, are those eyes?" and we glanced at eachother, packed our things and ran for our lives."
"Then this creature started chasing us-"
Jim starts getting flashbacks.
"Then, your friend saw some bikes and asked if you should stop and take them."
"Then, my friend saw some bikes and asked if you should stop and take them."
"Wait, how'd you know?"
"It's me Bob."
"No way."
"I thought you had been killed."
"Nope, I got my arm torn off and booked it down main street to the hospital to immediately get patched up and recover my arm into this stub I have today!"
Jim start's tearing up and embraces a massive hug with his, thankfully alive friend, Bob.
"I can't believe you're actually alive, I was planning on suicide too."
"Damn, also, I saw you placing graham crackers on my grave every day last year."
"You saw that?"
"Yeah, everyone thought I was dead, they actually took the grave out and gave the graham crackers to me!"
"Where'd you store them?"
"I have them sealed up in a cupboard at my house!"
"Woah, but how'd you see?"
"The hospital had brought up security tapes of you doing that, thank you."
The End..
