Karen woke up covered in sweat. Frantic and breathing heavily.

Night terrors or frustration from nightmares.

She was asleep and she was in the middle of the same nightmare she has had for nearly three months.

A man wondering around a house she was only slightly familiar with. He chases her and she winds up in a room trying to escape in the closet when she finds terrorizing things coming at her. She tries to run again and the floor boards buckle

For the past three months Karen also struggled with night terrors. Something dark, as dark as the night sky, comes in the night, hovers over her and causes a sensation as if she cannot move at all. Karen claws and punches at the air yet it feels like her arms are not moving.

Karen would claw at her eyes to get them open.

This has been another sleepless night. Karen turned on Netflix and scrolled through the endless list of things to watch yet nothing looked interesting. She finally decided on YouTube cooking tutorials. It was cooking, what terror could she get out of that?

She was mid-way through her fifth YouTube cooking tutorial when she decided to finally plug in her phone to charge and try and sleep. She stared at the light beside her bed and began to think about whether she should turn the light off or leave it on?

Karen decided to brave the darkness as she usually did and reached over and switched the light off. Her eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness. She stared off one more time to her closed bedroom door, her television that she switched off and the bay window in the front of her room.

Karen's house was a smaller Victorian house. She liked it because it reminded her of the house on the television show, "Charmed." She liked the openness and the feel of it. It was two stories with a small arched attic. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms which Karen appreciated for guests to use her downstairs bathroom.

Karen was settled in bed and and took a drink of water she had on her bed side table. She stared into the darkness again and suddenly felt cold. Karen sat up quickly and stared at the door. It was not too far from her bed but far enough away that she had to sit up to look at the door from the bed.

Karen decided that it was okay and she got comfortable again and pulled her covers up and tucked the bottom of her covers under her feet. She was slightly superstitious and could not be too careful as to what lurks in the night.

Karen felt herself slowly drifting to sleep. Her eyelids were heavy
