Chapter One

Disclaimer: This book was written a few years ago on Wattpad, and I’m aware it’s not perfect. Right now, I’m simply transferring the chapters over to this platform. If I have the time, I’ll go back and fix any errors. I appreciate your patience and understanding.

"Isabella it's time to wake up! You got jobs to look for" My mother yells from downstairs. I rub my tired eyes and roll over in my bed. My phone lights up showing me that it is 8 in the morning. It has officially been 1 year since I graduated high school. I promised my mom after my one year break I would find a job. I roll out of bed and walk into my bathroom and get ready for the day. The nice thing about technology now is that everything is done online which means I can apply for jobs from home. Once I finished getting cleaned up I open my laptop and start the search. "Hmm I don't want to work in a restaurant" I say to myself. I worked at a restaurant for a year while I was in high school and it was the worst experience. I told myself I would never do that again. Looking down the list of jobs I realized that I do not qualify for most of these jobs. "Mom can you come here!" I yelled and soon I heard footsteps coming to my room. "What's wrong sweetie" she said as she entered my room. "I am not going to ever find a good job. I have no experience." I said leaning back in my chair. "Oh, you will find something. Let me take a look" she said turning my computer towards her. "Look what about this one!" She pointed at a job listed. Montgomery Enterprise Assistant Needed. "They would never hire me," I said clicking the ad. "You never know apply and see!" My mom said smiling at me. I sat and stared at the qualifications needed and then at the apply button. For some reason my mind told me just to go for it and apply. I clicked the button and uploaded my resume and submitted it. How hard can being an assistant be? I sat and applied for a few more jobs and then went downstairs. "So how did it go?" My mom said sitting on the couch. "I applied for about 5 jobs including the assistant job. Now we just wait until I hear something back" I said sitting on the couch next to her. "It will all work out honey. Now time to watch our show!" She said turning on the tv.

3 days later

It has been a few days and not one job has called me back. Maybe taking a year off was not the best idea. Or at least I should have done some stuff to get some experience. I'm at my favorite coffee shop scrolling through more job listings on my phone. As I scroll a phone call comes through. "Random number" I say to myself and answer it anyways. "Hello is this Isabella Blaire?" The person on the phone says. "Yes, this is her" I respond "Hi I am Rachel from Montgomery Enterprise calling to follow up on the resume you submitted. We are wanting to schedule an interview with you." Rachel said, "Oh great!" I said excitedly "Are you free tomorrow at 10 am?" She asked me "Yes I am" I replied, "Okay we will see you then!" She said and hung up the phone. I got up from my chair and grabbed my coffee. I had nothing to wear to this interview so it was time to go shopping. I walked down along the sidewalk looking at the stores. I finally found one that sold nice clothing. "Hi, welcome in" the lady behind the register said. "Hi!" I replied "Are you looking for anything in particular?" She asked walking towards me. "I have a job interview as an assistant at Montgomery Enterprise so I need something nice to wear." I said smiling at her "Of course right this way" she said walking towards a section of clothing. She started pulling clothes off the racks and creating outfits. "Let's go try these on" she was holding up a handful of clothing. I followed her to the fitting rooms and began trying them on. Most of the outfits I didn't like but the last one I tried on was it. It was a black tight-fitting blazer skirt set. I looked professional but not overdoing it. The skirt hugged my curves and stopped right above my knee. I walked out of the room to look in the big mirror but to also get the lady's opinion. "What do you think?" I asked as I looked in the mirror. "It is perfect!" She said clapping her hands. "Okay then I will take it!" I said turning and smiling at her. I got undressed and back into my clothes and walked up to the register. "Here you go!" She said as she handed me the receipt "Thank you so much!" I said smiling at her. I left the store and headed home to tell my mom the great new.

Next morning

It was the next morning and for the first time in forever I woke up early on my own. It was 8:30 and I was FaceTiming my best friend Sarah to get her caught up with the job and interview I had coming soon. "How should I do my hair?" I asked her "I think you should leave it and just let it air dry. I think the waves you have naturally are beautiful." She said smiling at me "Are you nervous?" She asked me "Of course I am. I have no experience whatsoever.  I don't even know why they called me" I said. I pulled the towel off my head to let my long black hair air dry as Sarah said. "You will do great! I know you think you have no experience but you helping your mom with her job is some experience" before

I could reply she said "Now makeup I think you should go natural. You don't want to overdo it and look like a raccoon." "A raccoon!" I laughed "Yes a raccoon. I should have come over to do your makeup." She said "Hey! I am not bad at doing my makeup" I said giving her a look "No but I am the makeup artist here you could have looked even better" she said smiling at me. She was right she has been a makeup artist since we got out of high school and was good at it. She has worked on a bunch of movies and worked with a few celebrities doing their makeup.

I sat on the phone with Sarah until it was time for me to leave. "You got this girl! Good luck" she said smiling at me. "Thank you! I'll text you after I finish the interview and let you know how it went." I said and then hung up the phone. I looked in the mirror one last time and headed downstairs. "Oh look at my daughter looking all grown up. Good luck sweetie" she said hugging me.  "I will let you know how it goes" I hugged her back and walked out of the front door and to my car. I was leaving 10 minutes before I had to. The drive isn't far but I didn't want to be late. As I pulled into the parking lot I took a deep breath and parked my car. I got out of my car and walked up to the large building. "Here goes nothing"
