Chapter 1
Do you have any questions?" The young man purred.
Everly paused truly thinking. She had become a vampire, unfortunately for the young missionary that had stopped by her home earlier that evening. He would be fine, she managed to come to her senses before she had killed him. She had dropped him at the hospital before coming to find this golden haired young man.
She had met him several nights ago at the book store. Everly had finished her novel and just had to have the sequel. So, she had hoped in her brown 1978 cadillac seville and drove the 10 minutes into town. She had arrived at her favorite little book store, Bonnie and Clide's Read Easy, a terible pun but wonderful prices and and an even better atmosphere. Just before they closed, with 15 minutes to spare, she waved at Bonnie behind the counter and gave Clide, Bonnie's cat, a scritch behind his ears. She then made her way back to the historical fiction section and found the second book. She paused and grabbed the third and final book in the series so that she wouldn't have to make the trip back in for a few days.
As she was turning to head to where Bonnie would be waiting, Everly was met with the most striking set of green eyes.
The eyes belonged to a thin, tall, blonde man. He had an almost feral look in those green eyes. He reached out, brushing his hand against Everly's arm and said something. She no longer remembered what. She also didn't remember anything for the rest of the night and following two days.
She had woken to a knock on the door. Everly was curled up on her side of the bed, she still huged her side even though it had been almost a year since she had lost Henry, her husband. She was dressed in her favorite night gown, a blue one with a scoop neck and pink flowers spattering it. Her books were neatly stacked on her night stand with a glass of water.
Her head was killing her. She sat up and grabbed her bottle of ibuprofen from it's spot on the nightstand. Taking two before sliding her house shoes and house coat on. She then padded her way to the front door. Finding two young men in their Sunday best. She alowed them in, no interest in their attempt to convert her seventy-eight year old catholic ass.
But, she always enjoyed the company. The LDS missionaries would stop by about once a week, normally with a plate of food, and she would welcome them in for some cookies and herble tea. They would do some light house work, normally just something that Everly had yet to do, like a quick sweeping of the kitchen or washing the mugs and plates from the visit. The young men would talk about the Bible and Everly would offer counter points or personal stories, then the men would leave. And that would be that. They all knew she was Catholic and not interested in conversation, but her husband had been a member and she still enjoyed taking part in the community the church had always provided.
But, today was unlike any other day. The young men came in and began talking, but Everly had not been able to hear anything over the rush of the blood in their veins. She had tried to distract herself by readying some tea and cookies, but when she sat back down the rushing was almost even louder. She couldn't think, couldn't concentrate, then she had started to drool. Before she knew it her dentures had become unbearably uncomfortable. She then excused herself to the restroom. Once inside she removed her false teeth, low and behold two sharp canines were descending from the top of her mouth.
Shock. That's what Everly was feeling in the moment. She haven't had any real teeth in twenty years and now she had fangs. She looked like one of those Vampires all the kids seemed so obsessed with. Then, her gaze began to travel around her reflection. She had always been a beautiful woman, but time had taken its toll as it dose to all. But the face staring at her was almost 20 years younger. Her blue eyes were sparkling in a way she hadn't seen since before she had to have her hip replaced. Her thin, fine white hair looked thicker and glossary. She was still an older woman, but she was a fox. Well except she only had 2 teeth.
She would have to figure out what was happening but that would have to wait until after these people were out of her house. She decided thar she would have to cut this visit short and headed back out to the sitting room. One of the young men had already left, he apparently had a call home to make this evening, but the other had wanted to make sure she was alright. She assured him she was. But, then that damn rushing sound invaded her ears again. Suddenly, she became aware of just how starved she felt. And, then the smell hit her. It was like sweet peaches and sunshine. And, it was coming from him.
In a flash her body moved without her permission, she was biting him. He was screaming, but she didn't care. His blood was coating her throat and it was delicious. And, she was lost to the ecstasy it was creating inside her.
With every drop her hunger was further satisfied. And, as it eased she began to return to herself. Quickly she realized that the boy had stopped screaming, stopped moving, stopped doing much of anything.
Shit!
She thought to herself. She released her bite on him. But couldn't help herself from licking the bite one last time. With that the bite closed.
That's cool.
She listened and noted that he was still breathing. She shook him a bit. His eyes fluttered and he growned.
The hospital, I should probably take him to the hospital.
She decided. She set the boy on the couch with surprising ease then went to quickly change her clothes. She then carried the boy to the car and laid him in the back seat. Listening to make sure he was still with her as she drove to the hospital. She pulled up at the emergency doors and jogged inside for help. She told them that he had simply fainted and left him in their capable hands.
She had to find the man from the other night, she had to know what exactly she had become.
Finding him had proved surprisingly easy, she just thought about him and then drove straight there. There was apparently some kind of bond between Vampires and their makers. He had been hanging out in an upscale foreclosure on the edge of town. He had explained that he had planned on simply feeding from her, as each person has a unique flavor to their blood, and hers had interested him. But, she had done something he hadn't expected, she bit him. She had been determined to fight him off, and that had amused him. He had decided that it would be a shame to let time take such an interesting personality, so he made her immortal. Then, he had asked her if she had any questions for him.
She thought about this for a while. Finally landing on one.
"Do you know a good dentist?" She said with a smile that exposed only her two white fangs.
