Prolgue
Farther away than far in a place long past forgotten and beyond imaginary lies a place where cities float high above the Earth in the tops of trees. Cities rest on the tops of trees that are doing little more than waiting to die. These trees never touch the ground because the soil may hold nutrients but the ground itself holds only violence. Creatures called shadoween stalk the ground the kill any living thing that they find. We humans would have been extinct if the trees had not begun to float at the same time the shadoween showed up.
This whole mess of a world began with a thunderstorm that sprang forth from an orange sky. Odd orange clouds filled the sky and thunder began and never stopped. The color of the clouds and the frequent thundering told the citizens of Earth that the storm was not natural. The lightning continually lit the heavens and the thunder shook the Earth. It was omitting a new element into the atmosphere. New elements were released into the air from this unworldly storm. Scientists and Weather seers everywhere agree that this element woke shadoween out of hiding and forced trees into the air. The experts can only guess that this new element allowed the shadoween to thrive. Luckily, it also allowed the trees to rise. The trees are the only thing that has allowed humanity to survive.
